I immediately loved the feel of these products and the feel of my skin after using them - clean, soft, smooth, not tight. I would say I'm not a big fan of the smell of the oil - it's not bad as such, but a bit on the sweet side for my liking. Not a major issue though, you don't notice it lingering after using the gel. I have, after barely a couple of weeks use, had a fairly significant flare-up of my already temperamental skin - it could be hormonal, it could be purging after starting using these products as a new routine. I'm going to give it a chance and persevere for a few months because it would definitely be worth it if it is purging and it does seem highly likely as I've never used the double cleansing method before and it seems so much more thorough and my ... I have recently purchased the Intensive Moisture Cleanser because Dermalogica is no longer making the Essential Cleansing Solution. The Intensive Moisture Cleanser has a very unpleasant smell to it and is very drying to my skin. The dermalogica "chat" gal said it has no fragrance, just what is natural. Well, the smell is awful so they need to change the "natural" ingredients to make it more pleasant. Also, this product is very drying to my skin. Dermalogica should bring back the Essential Cleansing Solution or something similar so I can continue to be a consumer of their products. I understand companies change products. New products are great when they perform. The Intensive Moisture Cleanser is dud. Please make a non drying milky cleanser with no scent.

I have tried lots of other products with my combination, breakout prone skin and I keep coming back to this cleanser as it does not irritate my skin or make it worse. It never dries it out, it just does a nice gentle job of cleansing and refreshing and leaves my skin soft and smooth, almost taught if I don't put any other product on afterwards...but I always follow up with the Multi-Active toner which is another staple I can't live without. It has a very subtle pleasant smell which I love, kind of spa like, maybe its' the lavender or the mint balm? I do love lavender. Recently picked this up again after having reached 30 and after having tried many different brands over the years. Well no more, I have gone back to this beloved Cult-Classic after trialing it again and I must say I truly forgot how much I actually liked this cleanser. At the end of the day it just a cleansing gel and you certainly don't need to fork out this much for a cleanser, but it is so much more than just an average face wash from your local chemist or supermarket. The difference is in the formula and performance itself. Well no more, I have gone back to this beloved Cult-Classic after trialing it again and I must say I truly forgot how much I actually liked this cleanser. At the end of the day it just a cleansing gel and you certainly don't need to fork out this much for a cleanser, but it is so much more than just an average face wash from your local chemist or supermarket. The difference is in the formula and performance itself. Most cleansing gels or face washes can leave the skin feeling dry and even stripped (even the ones without soap!) but Dermalogica's Special Cleansing Gel truly leaves my skin feeling conditioned after each use. The price is high but realise that the cleanser itself is actually concentrated, it's a concentrated cleansing gel so you only need a small amount for a full lather over face and neck. Use it with the fingertips, a yellow cellulose facial cleansing sponge, The Dermalogica Face Brush or Sponge Cloth. The scent is surprisingly refreshing, light and clean, a surprise since Dermalogica does use a lot of Aromatherapy Essential Oils which might not be for everyone. Even though it is not advertised as a make-up remover I have found this water-soluble formula can actually remove a great deal of make-up on its own WITHOUT the PreCleanse Cleansing Oil... so experiment and see how you go. It's portable, great to use in the shower or at the basin and as for it's reputation, it is a BELOVED, well-known, industry staple favourite among skin care fanatics, facialists, therapists, Beauty Bloggers, Beauty Gurus etc... I use this ONLY at night after using the PreCleanse as I personally believe you don't need to do a thorough cleanse in the morning, if you do use this in the morning then use half of the amount you would use in the evening, it will save you $$ down the line.. This cleanser works beautifully in soft or Hard water and never EVER leaves my skin feeling stripped, dry, taut, parched or gagging for moisturiser. It truly is simply the most perfect facial cleanser I have ever used and I am not exaggerating. A true pleasure to use. I am now never without a bottle and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants fuss-free gentle but thorough cleansing. Thank you!
I'm amazed at how little of this cleanser you need. In the shower I can use a small, nickel-sized amount and it easily spreads to cover my face, neck, and décolletage. That helps justify the price for me. I was half expecting this to have a scent based on the essential oils in the formula, but to me it's fragrance-free which is totally fine in my book. I use this either in the AM as a one-step cleanser or as the second step of a double cleanse with my Elemis cleansing balm in the PM. It is so gentle and never leaves my face feeling dried out or irritated which always happened when I'd use drugstore brands or even some similar higher end brands like DE. I would not expect this to remove all my makeup on its own, but I love it when I use it as described!
