Very comfortable, sometimes I don't even feel the vibration it works so well. Yet it packs plenty of punch for a tool its size. It's great for drilling overhead like I do on a regular basis. I also like that it can take an onboard dust extractor and so I don't have to breathe in concrete dust anymore. Totally recommend!

These photos are on day two of use after purchasing (three days ago) I knew having a longer bit on it would require longer cool downs but within the first four holes drilled intermittently the hammer portion stopped working. Figuring we maybe overheating it by the grease could have caused the failure but for it stating it can handle a 1” bit I thought I bought the right tool for the job. I am a dewalt fan but this one seems to fall short as this is the second one that’s has failed me on this job. After years of cement work and having one that has grease areas, it surprised me to not find it in the maintenance section of the manual. Which I read beforehand. Now that grease is exiting the knob I can only think to send it in for servicing or return it. While it was working it was the best working SDS drill I’ve ever used, but I am very disappointed in its durability ( I returned the first one to the store as I didn’t have time to get it serviced) now I am using another to finish the job as even this one only managed a few holes with rest.

Works great when it works. Had to send in for repairs a year ago after having issues with Chisel turning in hammer mode while using chisel. Wouldn't engage back to drill/hammer mode when turning dial. Tool was maybe 6 months old with minimal use. Fast forward one year after being repaired and having the same issues, having to send back for warranty repair. A majority of my tools are Dewalt as I run a home remodeling business and usually don't have issues with Dewalt. This tool can't stand up to its intended task, and I had to purchase a Bosch corded rotary hammer to finish a job. I think I may have to purchase an 18 volt Milwaukee rotary hammer as the Dewalt is nothing but a paper weight. Now may be the time to switch to Red tools.

I needed this rotary hammer specifically for carpet glue removal off of concrete floors. Unit performed very well. Be aware that the SDS chuck gets warm. Overall the unit is heavy and somewhat difficult to maneuver in small spaces. I have not used the hammer drill feature yet. I will say this is a more efficient way of removing glue off the floor than a 4 in hand held scraper blade.
Works like a charm fast drilling. Drilled a 3/4" hole throught 14" foundation for a condensate line in under 6 minutes. Drilled holes for anchors.. hot dam! No issues. Better than taking out the sds max beast for everything as ive done for years. It has its place. Middle of the league of drills.. use the big batteries it needs them. If binds up... back out before getting debris stuck and clear out hole regularly
This is a great tool when it works. Out the box, they are great. But after a few months of continuous work, they will fail on you. I use them both as a cordless chipping hammer for tile and other such task. If you do buy it for an every day use, not a great tool. Not going to last.
Have used the yellow and black brand for work and DIY ever since the Matco guy never returned with my fried Makita over thirty years ago.Never had a need for a rotary hammer drill. Until a couple of years ago had to drill four holes in some concrete. Remember I almost destroyed one of my $200 Dewalt drills for that project. That is when I decided to pickup the DCD996 drill/driver/hammer. Had to drill two four inch deep 5/16 holes in some stucco covered cinderblock gate posts. To be honest was pretty unimpressed with the hammer function of the DCD996. It did the job but really seemed to work the 996 to the max.Just last week I had a project coming up where I was going to have to drill several 7/32 holes into some of my steel encased solid concrete gate posts. ... MoreHave used the yellow and black brand for work and DIY ever since the Matco guy never returned with my fried Makita over thirty years ago.Never had a need for a rotary hammer drill. Yeah, when we had the compound wall built we had them poor concrete into the posts. Pretty solid. The last thing I wanted to do is destroy my 350$ 996 doing this.I picked up the Dewalt Rotary hammer. I knew it would better suited for this job. Holy moly was that an understatement. We are talking seconds vs minutes that this thing punched those holes!!!!Really had my heart set on returning it thinking $300 for a specific tool to do one thing a "little" better. NOPE this thing rocked it out. Looking forward to the next job that entails drilling and concrete.Several people have posted that ANY rotary hammer will beat a hammer drill. Boy was that an understatement.
I have used Dewalt tools for 24 years in my A/V business. They all are great and I love every single one I and my crew use, every day. Dewalt is an American owned company always at the forefront of tools. For concrete or masonry, THIS is the drill you need to use. Toss all other ones away. If you want holes in concrete, brick, etc., this drill is like a hot knife through butter compared to all other drills. If you are using Tapcon bits, especially on brick, then use your standard general purpose drill with hammer drill capability. This one is so powerful, brick will explode in your face with chips flying off while you drill and actually makes the holes too big for Tapcon bits to grab. Use this drill when you need a hole through a wall, and want it quick. Hang on, ... MoreI have used Dewalt tools for 24 years in my A/V business. Use this drill when you need a hole through a wall, and want it quick. Hang on, pull the trigger, and watch it work wonders. The engineering and design of how this drill works amazes me. My hats off to Dewalt. It's like no drill I have every used before. Like kids, my guys and customers pause to watch this drill work wonders on concrete every time we pull it out of the case. Unlike the standard general purpose hammer drills that require ear muffs and will deafen you, this baby is fairly quiet. The battery system is well thought out, but that's for another review one day. You will not be disappointed in this drill. Just glad a stranger watching me work one day recommended trying his drill like this one.
These work well when they work. I’ve had 6 of them over the last year. The first to two failed within home depots return policy. The other two were replaced by dewalt... more on this in a second.. We use them daily. We drill lots of small 3/16 holes in concrete for tapcon screws. They are not abused but they are used. They CANNOT handle being used daily. They feel like a good quaility tool but something is not right. The ones i’ve had all suffer from the same issue. The same trigger issue others complain about. It all starts with a little, wierd lag. Then nothing.. well the light still works but no drill. Now... back to the dewalt service center. 40 day turn! I dropped these off at the dewalt service center in carrolton Tx. It took them 40 days to turn these around. They didnt even fix my old ones.. they just gave me new ones. Cool.. I guess it would be cool if it didnt take 5 weeks, purchasing another SDS drill to get us by until these were fixed and 80 miles round trip.. twice. Cant recommend these. Buy anything else.
