Last year I bought another major brand heat gun that came with no attachments, no way to tell how hot it was and cost at much at this one. As you can probably tell I never liked the thing. When I saw this one on Christmas sell I ordered it immediately and now with no regrets. I don't use a heat gun often but when I do I want the accessories I need and the proper heat to do the job. This one came with 12 accessories(13 if you count the fact you can use the gun with no accessory). My first job was to quickly warm up some cold metal for painting without getting I too hot. Job done in matter of minutes at a temperature of 250 degrees. Another good feature is how comfortable it fits your hand. It also has two air speeds to make it more job friendly. At first I thought the LCD might be a gimmick, but being able to know the specific temperature has been very helpful. While using it for melting embossing powder, a setting of about 700 degrees matches the output of the guns specifically made for embossing powder. The temp for Heat shrink tubing will vary depending on the thickness. Just use a piece of scrap as a test piece and make a note of the optimal temp. The legs that swing out to form a tripod stand is effective. This works well for hands-free heading of heat shrink, or to let the gun cool after use. The temp readout is still visible when in tripod mode. Comes with two tips, a concentrator, and a fan-out. The fan-out works for heat shrink, but I wish they had one with a half-pipe to hit the backside of the ... I bought this as every once in a while I need a heat gun. I used this heat gun maybe 10 times for light use stuff like heat shrink tubing, removing stickers, etc. It was never used for long periods. I went to use it just the other day and the lcd screen is blank and I pushed the plus button hoping maybe I could get it to heat up as I needed to use it for heat shrink tubing. Didn't work. LCD is broken, but unit blows air, just no amount of heat to even make heat shrink tubing shrink. Past warranty but greatly disappointed as the tool was barely used. I don't like tools that just break from sitting on a shelf.

My second heat gun, and WOW, what a difference. The different temperature settings are very accurate and appreciate the two Dan speeds. Great assortment of tips and other accessories. Hard case is a nice touch. Used it on a decal removal and double-stick taped on accessory which I do quite frequently. The ease and quickness removing both with due to the Dewalt heat gun. My other gun does not even come close to the speed or ease to completely remove everything. Highly recommended.CPO Outlet packed the items well along with Very fast shipping. Glad I found their website.
I am already partial to Dewalt products. I thought about going with a cheaper product as Dewalt are generally more expensive than other brands. Overall, I am very satisfied. There are two fan speeds, with independent heat settings. It has pop-outs near the base of the handle to let it securely stand on a workbench or table for hands-free use. Quality is second to none. This is probably the best choice if you are planning to use it frequently and are looking for a long-lasting tool.
I had been using this gun primarily for heat shrink so a lot of the accessories weren't used. But the job I'm working on required stripping paint from doors and trims. The objective it to make the doors and trim look aged. I decided to give the heat gun a shot.It has worked better than expected and the accessories have made the job much easier. At this point I've probably put in 50+ hours with it, much of it 2 or more hours of continuous operation without a single glitch.
Despite the instruction manual listing the soldering of plumbing joints as a viable application, this heat gun failed to deliver sufficient heat to a 3/4-inch copper union even at the high air-flow and maximum 1100 °F temperature settings while using the c-shaped pipe-heating attachment. The gun read 1100 °F (internal air temperature) but insufficient heat was transferred to the pipe even after 10 minutes of continuous operation. The flux didn't even smoke and the copper never discolored. I could only melt the tin-lead solder by placing it directly in the hot air stream. For applications requiring a lower heat flux, I have been happy with this tool, but my mediocre rating reflects my opinion that the marketing claims and product literature are misleading at best and ... Purchased this heat gun to replace a Harbor Freight $10 parking lot tent special that quit when the switch gave up. This tool seems to have half the cfm that the Harbor Freight tool had but what it does have is much better control of both the temperature and the positioning of the tool with the stand deployed. Resting on it's back on my workbench allows me to manipulate whatever I'm doing with both hands. The tool is incredibly stable in this configuration and once I worked out that switching from Hi to Low automatically reset the temperature to about 200 degrees and returned to the earlier preset once switched back to Hi, I felt my purchase was a wise one. I now look forward to efficiently heat shrinking the wire connectors when I replace my hobby car's wiring ... I bought one of these in 2014 and it was dead on arrival. My local DeWalt service center was kind enough to warranty it on the spot. A new one came in the mail just two weeks later. It heated up quickly and I like the LCD screen to make sure my temperature was bang on. I used that heat gun maybe 6-7 times over the next six years and it performed well. This morning, I needed it to finish a small project and I noticed the LCD screen was dead. The gun wouldn't heat up at all. This is is a tool failure I would expect from Harbor Freight, but not DeWalt. My heat gun is now out of the 3 year service warranty and my local DeWalt service center has permanently closed.Overall, I am really disappointed because I liked this heat gun a lot when it was working, but now I am ... I only used one cheap heat gun from HF which worked for few years/few jobs. Then it got fried on me in a rather unsafe way. When I needed to buy replacement I knew I needed something reliable. DeWalt isn't perfect as a company but they sure do have lots of good tools. Getting' this kit and for this price was a win/win. The case and attachements make it very good starting point for any job., The tool itself speaks quality and you really feel it. I only used it twice and really love it. Arek
