Delighted so far. Really like the racheting chuck and the compact size. Plenty of torque when needed. The chuck really can hold my smallest drill bits. A little difficult to move the torque switch (slider) from #2 to #1 which may be a feature to prevent accidentally moving the switch while using the drill. Still qualifies for five stars. I gave away my two other drills in favor of this DeWalt.

I have had this type of drill for almost 8 years now if my memory serves me right. It has been through a lot. Dropped from three stories up, didn’t break, thrown across the room after loosing my temper with a screw that wouldn’t go in(drill wasn’t to blame, user error all the way) It has worked after sitting in my truck tool box in negative temps and had no issues with it even if though I wanted it to not work so I could have an excuse not to work outside in the cold. The darn thing just keeps going, and that is why I love it and all the dewalt Products. Highly recommend you consider purchasing.

I got this for my husband. He needed a drill that had higher torque and lasted longer. I read through a LOT of info on various drills (including reviews) and through many batteries for those drills. This was the lightest drill that had the best torque. Another reviewer stated that he used ti commercially and remarked how well it did and how light it was. It got me thinking that holding a heavy drill through a tough job would probably fatigue the hand/wrist fast and through his time in the military and all his time working outdoors, the last thing my husband would want is more hand/wrist pains. So, I went with this drill. I also liked how easily the battery was said to go into it and is as easily removed. This is being used commercially (he works on planes) and so far he's thrilled... and everyone is asking to borrow it lol.

I used this with a deck. It worked well with most everything using the torque settings for nimble tasks, then opening it up for tougher tasks. I was planting 5 inch long 3/8 lag bolts into solid wood up to the last inch. The drill has torque enough to twist your arm so hold on with both hands. The high and low speeds work well for torque tasks, but also for high speed drilling. I was using self tapping screws and it worked well doing that. I owned a 777 model and had to send that back to the shop and this was one stepped up to the task. Towards the end I may have pushed the torque too much and injured one of the 3 steel tines that grabs your bit causing a slight wobble. I did not notice the wobble with my last work task. I gave the tool a 4 due to the gripping tine ... MoreI used this with a deck. It worked well with most everything using the torque settings for nimble tasks, then opening it up for tougher tasks. I gave the tool a 4 due to the gripping tine slipping or possible breaking, but I did push this tool hard. As of now, it's well worth the money and love the ergonomics of the tool. Everything is well placed regarding selection of speed and torque and use in tight spaces.
I use both of these almost daily. The impact I use for setting tapcon and drilling flex boards in from concrete forms - the driver I use to mix spec patch and epoxy paint. Sure beats the crap out of dragging a corded srs around. The one issue I have is just with the battery chargers- it seems like its it's on and charging then tells me it's full and I only get ten minutes. Thought I had burned out both of these and another driver within a week when in reality I had to push the batteries on until it clicks on the charger to get a legit full charge. Embarrassing I know but haven't had an issue since. And got both drills for a FRACTION of what ONE WITHOUT battery costs at home depot. WELL worth the money!
One of the best things I did last year was to donate all of my XXX brand cordless power tools and purchase a complete set of Dewalt 20V Max cordless power tools. At this point I have 10 separate power tools in the 20V Max product line anf love them all; however the most used tool is the DCD780 Drill Driver. This drill is durable, reliable, capable with plenty of power and light enough to use all day with no hand/arm fatigue. My second favorite tool has been the DCL040 Work Light that I have my grandson hold when I need extra light to complete tasks in darker areas. Both are high quality power tools that have proven over the past year to be tough, durable and the batteries last much longer than the other brands I have tried. The one IO get was made ion Mexico. I have one of these that is the exact same model that came in a set that I bought at Home Depot. The one from Home Depot was assembled in USA. I have used this one and it seems to work as well as the USA made one so far. I bought this one so that I have two drills at the same time with different bits. For $40 or so I couldn't pass it up. Just as a note to future buyers, Dewalt makes a lot of drills with different model numbers that it gets confusing as to which exact drill you want to buy. Some 1/2 inch 20 Volt Max drills with different model numbers will sell for as much a $120 for drill only. Of course the 3 speed drills with hammer drill capability are more expensive.
This drill is a replacement for one I had originally purchased a couple of years ago. It is not a drill that I use every day. In fact it had not been used for several months now. When I needed it, the drill "chuck" was jammed in the open position and no matter what we tried, we were unable to move it into the "lock" position. Drill motor still worked fine just unable to mount any drills. Repair costs were more than the cost of a replacement drill, so I purchased a new one. Love Dewalt products, but they are not as bullet proof or dependable as they advertise.
This is my second drill/screw driver from Dewalt. This is more powerful than the one I had before. It is particularly good for drilling for my wood works. It is also a breeze in driving dry wall screws. I am happy to have it around for my various household repairs and projects. The price is reasonable for such a good tool.
This unit performs as described and apart from a missing bit-clip, seems to be like new. I have an older DCD780 but needed another so that one could permanently be used for drilling & counter-sinking wood and the other just for screwing, instead of constantly swapping bits on one drill. The refurbished unit just seems to have a slightly different pitch to the electric motor compared to my original but to all intents & purposes, it seems identical in use.My original DCD780 has been used rigorously and suffered falls but DeWalt builds toughness into their products, so I hope the refurbished unit can also stand the rough & tumble too.The clincher was CPO's price as a bare tool, since I already own other 20v batteries, which the deal a steal.
