Wow! I am super happy with this drill! I am upgrading from my older DCD995 which was a powerful drill already at 650Watts. This one is 860W with a regular 20V battery. That already compares to a 120V corded drill. 1200+ Watts with a 60V battery is significantly beyond that! It’s definitely a prudent decision to use the drill handle in that mode of operation. The clutch works well whenever bit you are using jams (hole saws usually) - it reacts pretty much instantly. I made the mistake of using this to try and level my trailer. In that case it didn’t sense a jam and basically tore itself out of my hands. Flexvolt Advantage Hammer Drill DCD999

Dewalt reviewsI was sent the flexvolt advantage hammer drill DCD999 and a 6.0 flexvolt battery as a sample. Overall I am very impressed and can notice an increase in power from a 5.0 20V battery compared to the 6.0 60V flexvolt. I have used this drill to mix several 5 gallon buckets of drywall mud, drill 6” holes in Sheetrock and other small drill tasks such as driving screws and making smaller holes with paddle bits. I usually use my flexvolt mixer to mix mud and concrete but decided to try the flexvolt advantage drill to see how it would mix and it did very well without bogging down at all and could definitely tell a difference in power from my regular brushless 20V drill which would normally struggle some to mix something this thick. The 999 comes with a nice screw on handle which is longer and makes it easier to use compared to the ones that came with the 996 model. It also comes with the standard belt clip too. One thing I wish DeWalt would add to more of their drills is an E-clutch to save your wrist when using large hole saws or mixing, this flexvolt advantage does not have any sort of emergency stop. The overall drill is almost identical to the 20V brushless version physically with a few minor differences, including a slightly wider base where the battery goes and the clutch is a little different. Overall a Very impressive drill and power, definitely recommend getting this drill especially if you are already on the flexvolt battery platform. It is nice to be able to use your 20V batteries for smaller projects but when you need more power you can also use flexvolts and get a boost.

Great tool
21 September 2021

Tons of power. My fist use for this was mixing paint and is handled the chore easily. I also blasted a bunch of 1" holes through steel with a hole saw. I like the three speed gear box because it has so much power it will spin way too fast for some jobs (like paint mixing and using a hole saw) without choosing a slower speed. Yes, it has a variable speed trigger, but I noticed that the trigger can be a little difficult to modulate - on high speed, it can suddenly jump from slow to almost full speed with very little change in pressure on the trigger. The only negative is that if is a little on the heavy side, especially with the flexvolt batteries, but that was expected. It feels like a quality tool and performs great.

Monster Drill
20 June 2022

I purchased this drill for rebuilding a fence and finishing out our new patio. It had zero problems with mixing small batches of quikrete, drilling and driving through treated lumber, and putting pilot holes in cured concrete. It has since been used for metal fab on two project cars and several small projects. While I have a smaller DCD791 for normal use, I break out this monster when I absolutely need to put holes in tougher materials. It never fails to do the job.Make sure that you use quality bits with this drill. It will destroy the cheap stuff in seconds.

Not so much quality

I have the 18V european model (bought from Zivtool), but I'm not very impressed in this toll's quality and futures. The metal chuck is not centered, it is offset, it has a gap of 1mm in one side and 2mm in the opposite side, measured to the grey metal round case edge.If I use a 2 inch long fine drill bit, it's tip will not puncture as a dot, but drawaing a little circle with a 2mm radius. Imagine how hard will be to point it with a longer bit.I also noticed this issue to my last dcd800 that I returned after 7 days, but not as worst as this dcd999.I don't like the noisy "clank" sound when starts and stops (brake).Last thing, I don't like that I can't shut off the light (like dcd800, for example).First time I fasten the chuck, it got stucked, but manged to ... MoreI have the 18V european model (bought from Zivtool), but I'm not very impressed in this toll's quality and futures. Hope it will not happen again, as I've seen a lot of youtubers highlithing Dewalt's metal chuck problems. In my opinion, a lot of issues for such a "big" brand.Still, it's a powerful and heavy tool.I'll call the warranty guys to see if they can fix it.If not, I'll sell it, toghether with all my new Dewalt tools and chose another brand.

I have a smaller Dewalt drill already and have been very happy with it but I needed to drill some anchors in Concrete. This drill has the hammer feature I needed for this job and I am not disappointed. The drilling power and hammer impact make short work of the anchors. The Side handle gets a firm grip on the tool and allows much better control and support. I cannot stop without mentioning the chuck on this tool, talking about grip! The keyless chuck gets a hold of a bit and hangs on to it without slipping. I have also used this too to drill 7/16 holes through hardened steel with a cobalt drill bit to refloor a flatbed trailer. And it’s worth every penny. I’m a full time commercial and residential plumber, and I’ve put this thing through the wringer. It almost made me regret buying the 60v joist drill (DCD471), but that’s an entirely different animal. I know it’s got its limits, I just haven’t found it yet. It eats whatever I put in front of it and wants more. I’ve had every iteration of the 20v hand drills minus the atomic, and it’s definitely a step up from the XR. I mix concrete with it, drill holes from 1/8” to 4 1/2” in solid lumber, through steel, shred 4” PVC pipe out of fittings, dunked it in some questionable fluids a few times, and buried it in a hole. Still smokes holes like it’s Ron Jeremy, just better looking. Couldn’t be happier with it.
