I am refinishing an old cedar hope chest my grandfather built for me back in the 80's. He got into wood working after he retired. He liked his big circular sander and rough cut boards. Complete with horrid orange shellac/lacquer varnish..etc. It's made with love, not craftsmanship. lolTHIS sander is helping me get rid of all the horrible marks the sloppiness of a circular sander. I stripped it first. I had started using my Skil Octo 7300. But at .8 amps- it wasn't made for the kind of clean up this required. I am going to see this project through to the end.I highly recommend it. I'm new at this stuff but one of my favorite DIY bloggers recommended this brand/model and she is usually spot on.

I bought this with the excitement of being able to create and bring back to life furniture. Only to experience that 2yrs later it breaks on me just as I finished a project. At a loss to put my trust back in on this product. I'm sure I might have been the 1 in a 100 but when your the 1 and no answers or able to feel a peace of mind with a warranty. Makes you think twice about buying it again. Maybe just buy craftsman with a lifetime warranty. Really wished Dewalt would have a better warranty.

I had received this as a Christmas gift this past year and it definitely worked better than my ryobi one I had in my tool box. The only issue I have is it is a single speed so vs the variable speed it’s not as good but still great for the value. I recently used this one a farmhouse table I made and I was impressed with the quality it provided.
This sander is great in many ways.Pros: Super light weight, sanding sheet is adhered to a foam base that makes the sanding even at angles or on uneven surfaces, Can connect to a shop vac for dust collection, great priceCons: Lame dust collector - You might as well not have that dust collector on the end because it barely collects a thing. After attaching the shop vac to the end instead, there was a dramatic difference in the flying dust. The cord is super short IMO. It is VERY loud. After sanding some still-hanging doors for 15 min, I felt like my hearing was severely damaged for a good bit of time. I'll wear ear protection next go around.
This is just what I needed. My old sander had bitten the dust and i needed a new one. I guess i could have gone for the battery powered, but the batteries are expensive and the new sander was over twice as much. I went for the corded one, took it home and hooded it to my vacuum system and started sanding. It is doing a great job and the dust collection is marvelous.
I've wanted a DeWalt orbital sander ever since borrowing one from a pro friend. It has power to quickly do any sanding job, it is balanced in the hand, and the velcro-style sandpaper holder works well. I have smaller hands and it's still lightweight enough for me to use skillfully. One of my favorite features is the dust collector bag, which attaches firmly to the sander and does NOT leak any dust! (The other is its storage bag, roomy enough to hold extra sandpaper and more.) I've used this for home improvement projects such as preparing walls and wood trim for painting, and sanding down old doors to fit better in their frame. I haven't yet used it for refinishing furniture, but that will be next! I've been using it for about 5 years now and it is still going just as strong as ever with no issues.The size is great - I have somewhat smaller hands for a man and have no problems using it. I thought it was because of the spackel, so I put the sander aside and waited until I needed to sand some unspackeled wood. When I tried the sander again, the sandpaper came off after a few minutes.I contacted Dewalt customer service thinking that the hook disc on the sander had worn and lost its grip. They quickly sent me a replacement disc. This new disc also wouldn’t hold the sandpaper for any length of time even when I was sanding clean wood.I contacted the Dewalt service center nearest me and they created a UPS label for me to send the sander to them. If I had to complain my only thing is it hums fairly loudly but that's from the powerful motor and fans it has. Typically, I used the square sanders of days past and this is at least 5X more efficient, if not more. I was recommended this from a fellow at the hardware store because of the efficiency and was skeptical... not anymore though! Also has worked great for body work, as I share a shop and my friend has been using it for some of his restoration work. I personally would recommend this over the battery operated ones.
