I purchased this system for a big interview job I landed that required lav mics. After comparing many wireless systems, including the Rode Go II, I went with DJI Mic. This for its functionality, ease of use, safety/back up features, and charging case. The functionality can not be beat. Changing most any setting on the fly with the touch screen is fantastic. A duplicate back up of the audio recorded on the transmitters internal 8GB drive can be a lifesaver. The audio quality is more than acceptable as far as wireless lav mics go. Plus, I always sweeten my sound to broadcast specifications in post. In short ... for just over $300 this system can't be beat. The missing 5th star: I wish the system came with compatible lav mics! Yes it's very cool that the transmitter can magnetically stick to the front of your shirt/dress/top. But I'm sorry....no one wants film and interview with a DJI branded, back block, with lights, stuck to their chest. It's small but it's still any eye-sore. Finding a lav mic that didn't produce RF noise in the DJI Mic receiver wasn't as easy as you think!! For example, the RODE Lavalier GO mic produced such loud RF noise...the audio is quite literally unusable. After purchasing and testing 3 different recommended brands ($12 to $65 range) I finally settled on the PowerDeWise Professional Grade Lav. It works flawlessly.

I wasn't sure about them because I've seen videos of them having lots of interference with a lot of lavalier mics, but since none of the rest seemed to beat them in portability, redundancy and reliability, I ended up buying them.I have a rode lav mic, which supposedly was one of the not compatible mics for this system, and it works flawlessly.Either way I found on YT a review which recommended the Saramonic SR-M1 lav mics for this system and since they were on my budget I ended up buying a couple of them.Paired with them we now have a really great quality for our interviews, we have the much needed redundancy since each TX records internally, and the system works flawlessly. We have used them 5 times now and we are thrilled with the results. DJI thought of everything. The Rode Wireless Go II was my previous favorite system, and then DJI came in and improved on just about every feature. The transmitters are tiny and light, and can be adjusted individually for gain, mute, recording, LED brightness & noise filter. They come with very strong magnetic clips which are not fragile. I use them with the Rode Lavalier GO Mics, and I haven't noticed any interference. The receiver has a great little touch screen that is bright and intuitive to use, and the levels and settings can be easily seen from behind the camera when it is mounted. The receiver includes mounting adapters so the system can be used with a cold shoe, USB-C & Lightening ports, which makes it very versatile. I was nervous about the cold shoe ... I was nervous about the cold shoe adapter after seeing a few reviewers mention it as a possible weak point, but it's sturdier than I expected, and I don't think it will break under normal use. The charging/pairing case is small and very convenient, and there is no going back to individual USB-C cables. The two transmitters can also be used as individual recorders without the receiver, and then the audio files can be simply exported without any special software. All of the components feel like DJI's typical great quality, and I am very happy with the system overall.
This is a well-designed kit for standard wireless mic applications. However, when I use any input to my Zoom F3 and H6 recorders from the DJI receiver, the right channel has horrible high frequency interference. It is not related to the cord, xlr cable splitter, the position of the receiver or transmitters or to the proximity to other wifi /network signal. The interference virtually disappears when the receiver is tightly held in hand, even if just the top and side of the receiver is covered with your hand. There is no similar interference when the same 3.5mm cable is run from the receiver to the mic input of my camera. The result is that I can only run the left channel of the DJI receiver into my recorder. This is not what I hoped for....
Major points of influence when comparing to the Rode Wireless Go II:This comes with all accessories that the Rode requires to purchase separately.BUT, the immediate winner for all the money in this comparison is that you can adjust the gain of the TX and output of the receiver separately. It is the reason I switched from the WGII. The audio of the Rode set clips at even a medium voice projection. The mic gain on the DJI can go down an additional 12db if needed, which means it can handle even the loudest YouTubers and yellers if mic'd a just little further down the shirt. I couldn't get the Rode to stop clipping even from feet away. This has a genius storage design and is slightly more compact when all said and done. This (so far) seems to have a little bit of ... The clips are plastic-ish and have teeth on the inside, so they can't hold tightly and slip right out of my old Rode mount. That could likely be solved with the right adapter/mount.
HUGE design flaw: most lavalier microphones will pick up interference noise from the transmitter and receiver's antennas when plugged in! You will hear a constant tone, it's consistent, and it's unavoidable unless you find a certain subset of magic lavalier microphones that happen to work with this product. Here's a hint: The RODE brand lavs don't work, neither do most that you'll find here on B&H or on Amazon.I thought maybe my unit was defective, but I found out that this is actually a KNOWN ISSUE! Look up Stewart and Alina on YouTube, they have a video where they play examples of the radio interference you hear, and test 8 different lavalier microphones with this product. Mind you, they **are not** testing to see which microphones sound the best. No, they're ... Mind you, they **are not** testing to see which microphones sound the best. No, they're testing to see which microphones don't have this unacceptable interference noise! This makes it clear that it isn't just one defective unit I had, it's the way the product was designed, it's a result of poor engineering. They're all like this. And in case there was any doubt in your mind that it might just be mine, I reached out to DJI's (horrendous) customer support, and after several days of being bounced around and waiting to actually talk so someone, the representative I spoke to told me this was a known issue, and they were unaware whether this was a hardware issue, or something that could be fixed via firmware update. I wasn't planning to wait around, if it's a product I can't rely on, I can't risk my business by using it professionally. I returned mine within a week. The experience I had with this product is in huge contrast to the Rode Wireless GO, which has no interference with any lav mics that I've tested, even the really cheap no-name brand ones. Rode figured this out, they anticipated and properly compensated for potential wireless radio noise from the device itself, DJI didn't.Plugging in a lav basically turns the DJI Mic's transmitter into a radio antenna, and all you hear is radio noise from the transmitter itself. If you plan on only using the built-in microphone on the transmitter, I guess you won't have issues, but for most pros who plan to use external lavaliers, this product is useless.
I've been using the RODE GO II Wireless for several months but am blown away by the DJI package - magnets, snap to charge, included Lightning/USB-C adaptors for smartphones, there's just so much clever design at work here. Yes the kit is pricier than the RODE package and countless other knockoffs of that, but DJI gives you a lot. The charging experience is worth it alone - while battery life is worse than the RODE units it's almost never a concern since the case charges all three units just like AirPods. The tiny touchscreen interface works surpisingly well and is a much-needed improvement over the RODE's punishing one-button system. No apps needed either, so big plus there. Oh, and the mic units themselves sound great! Haven't even plugged in a discrete lapel but ... The $79 Rode SmartLavs work well for that purpose and play nicely with this or any device with the 3.5mm jack.Audio is now just one less thing to worry about with this kit from DJI. Great first-gen effort.
I think what makes something professional are two things.#1. Do you make money with it?#2. If you eliminate all operator error, does it have 99.9% success rate?I think DJI's mic kit is phenomenal and I am able to make money with it. However, it's not often, maybe 2 out of 20 times. An external device on a similar frequency interferes briefly. I want to be clear, this is seldom. So why the 5/5 stars? I view this as prosumer device and it's an amazing prosumer device. When I'm not using it for my low stakes youtube channel, I use it as a supplement to a more professional audio set up for higher stake talking head shoots.Would I use it as my main go to for professional filming? NO.Would I use it for run and gun situations, youtube channel, or lower stakes ... MoreI think what makes something professional are two things.#1. Do you make money with it?#2.
