Received my first DJI Osmo Action 4K to realize that the front screen is not working. When you switch from back to front, the back one disconnects so the front one can work but it would be solid black.I called B&H they immediately sent me RMI and I asked for a replacement. Today I open the box from B&H, brand new Osmo and this one is missing the part that holds the battery in place. Obviously the QC at DJI is not good as they can't even catch the obvious.So I can't give a review on the video quality as the two I received don't work. Will be asking for 3rd one as I purchased tons of accessories for it. Hopefully the 3rd one will work.

I bought the kit from BH and have used it for about 2 years now. Overall, I like the image quality, handling, and battery life of this small camera. However, there is one issue. When shooting 4k videos, often the camera would not be able to handle it and freeze -- then lost segments. I am not sure if it's due to the slowness of the sandisk card coming with the kit, or the processing power of the camera. Nowadays I only shoot 2k, and never have the problem any more. But it's 2k, not 4k...

I like this camera waaaaaay better than the GoPro cameras mainly because the app actual works well. Bought the GoPro for twice as much and the app was terrible. One of my buddies dropped this same camera in a resevoir while kayaking. He couldn't find it, and went back 5 weeks later when the reservoir water level had dropped enough where he could walk to it and amazingly found it in a few inches of mud. He took it home, cleaned it off, threw it in a bag of rice for a few days and it worked perfectly! I was sold!My biggest complaint is the battery life, which kinda sucks. I bought 3 extra batteries and a charger, but mainly use it while Jeepin so it's it plugged in most of the time.

My previous experience with DJI products heavily influenced this purchase. It would be nice if this camera would communicate with my DJI Osmo Mobile 3 (for auto tracking & so forth) but that's certainly not a deal breaker - and if that's the only negative thing I could say, then this is one incredible little camera. The only thing I would suggest: if you are using *any* waterproof action camera underwater then you should definitely use a legitimate waterproof case - for underwater use, get the DJI Osmo Action waterproof case then don't worry about it. Action cams also tend to take a beating.So what was the big niche that needed to be filled by DJI for introducing their first Osmo Action? I found four:The OSMO Action1. Provides the best digital stabilization ever in an action cam.2. Introduced the first selfie-screen on an action cam.3. Raised the bar for achieving better results using aperture settings and filtering.4. Must reference an active cell phone account for activation before the camera can operate.Did I miss anything else? If so, it could be some unique internal component.I did find the activation process to be a bit intrusive and was even contemplating returning the camera because I seldom ever use a cell phone. DJI assumes everyone who buys their camera uses a cell phone. In fact, what if I really didn't have a phone? Basically it is forced registration under the guise of allowing DJI to download the firmware updates automatically to my phone. Everybody has to have CONTROL! For now the camera doesn't need to reference the phone or the app for normal operation, and in fact the phone account can be deactivated and the phone completely discombobulated and it won't affect the operation of the camera one iota after it is activated. However, while the phone is still operational the app serves as a remote control, but from that one phone only. Resetting the wireless connections in the settings of the camera allows the camera to be controlled from a different phone. Had the OSMO Action been dependent solely on the phone app for operation it would have been of no use to me and returned for refund.Overall the reviews have been favorable and the camera seems to be abundantly available for hundreds of video reviewers. DJI has also managed to get the backing of many companies that are working overtime to introduce some really useful accessories for the OSMO Action. It is likely destined to be giving GoPro a real run for the money.My new OSMO Action cam has been flawless during operation and offers more versatility because it is not confined to using GoPro mounts only. Even though auto-exposure settings work perfectly for what I do, I'm closest ever to getting a lesson in photo enhancement using Lightroom. I'm also using a CPL filter for the very first time. Best of all, I can now leave the gimbal at home whenever I strap on my new cam because it won't be needed now that RockSteady is built into the OSMO Action.The OSMO Action does so well it is difficult to find any criticism for it, so my gripes are relatively minor. The first is that I would like to have a choice for view angle available from narrow to extra wide. I don't quite understand the break down to smaller video files and not having the choice to record the entire video to just one file since I only use 1080P resolution for recording videos.It has been said often that one camera just can't do it all, but I'm sure the OSMO Action will eventually be responsible for a significant portion of my video collection. It is the source for some great ideas in action cam design. Right now it is still in the early development stages, so whatever the firmware updates can't fix will surely spark a lot of interest in what the next version of the OSMO Action presents.

However, This camera has been both incredibly easy to use as well as very capable in post with its HDR function.I have two of these now and they have added loads of value to my production company. I have heard issues of it not being completely waterproof. I would only recommend that DJI fix the battery door, as it is a bit tricky to make sure its completely closed. I would advise that if you do use this thing to underwater on a family vacation- lock the screen to either be filming you from the front or back- and also double/triple check that you've fully locked the battery in place. I think this camera is excellent for the price and overall quality it offers.I had such good impressions that I ordered a second one 2 weeks after my first purchase. It was still cheaper than getting 1 GoPro.I use this camera to record soccer games and we love how the videos come out even at 1080p 60fps in order to save space and random freezes when editing the videos. The rocksteady function is great! It offers plenty of stabilization and you can't even notice the wind movement when attached to a 25ft tripod.I haven't tested it under water yet. The only thing I would improve would be the sound but I also got a cheap audio adapter to connect my microphone to it and everything is perfect now.
How are you expected to use a product that requires you to register for a service that is broken? I've tried to register multiple times using different methods with no success, I am given different errors each time I try.I suspect the camera is quite good when it functions, however you are required by DJI to register the product to actually use it. You can use it four times without registering, but you get locked out afterwards...
