1st Pair of Docs and OMG

These were my first pair of Docs so I actually went into the Dr Martens store in SoHo to try on almost every single pair they had bc all the reviews on sizing seem to vary by shoe style. I’m a true 6.5 but with bad feet (bunions) so I prefer my shoes to be a bit wider and run a bit larger vs being snug. I was looking for a soft leather, high lace up boot with a platform. I tried on the Audrick platforms and the regular 1490s in a size 6 which felt very comfortable for my feet. I initially tried the Jardon Pisa in a size 6 but could feel my right big toe almost grazing the front of the shoe. Since I was wearing very thin socks, I knew the boots would be too snug come winter time when I’ll want to wear tights and thicker socks. The size 7 were a tad too big but the sales associate stuck in some doc insoles for me and they felt much better! I would say these boots do run true to size but a little wide, so if you are a true half size and do not want your shoes to be snug, then size up. I’m so confused by the reviews where people are sizing down one whole size - that definitely would not have worked for me, so I’m glad I went into the store to try these on. As for style and feel? OMG these feel like walking on clouds…everyone always talks about how docs are brutal to break in, but these feel amazing. I had always wanted docs in the 90s (I was in middle school and HS) but couldn’t afford them back in the day. I’m ecstatic that I can feed my inner 90s child via these boots! The pictures do not do them justice. They are legitimately beautiful and I do not regret paying full price for them! I live in NYC and know I’ll get a ton of wear from them.

It's been a long time since I last bought a pair of Docs as they're just so expensive now and the vegan range is so limited. I decided to splash out on these Jadon Max ones as they were in the sale and given full price is over £200 - 3-4 times what I would normally spend on footwear - I was expecting exceptional quality and comfort. What I got was disappointingly average, not much better than boots I've bought for *much* less, and just didn't seem worth the cost to me - even at the discounted price. Yes the designs are great, but in terms of quality and comfort it seems to me you're paying for brand cachet and not much else.

The bottom of the shipping box and inside shoe box were both badly ripped. The internal tissue packaging was also ripped and incomplete. These boots were clearly ordered by someone else and then returned in less than optimal condition. There are scratches and loose glue threads on the boots themselves. Very disappointing.I have also filed a claim regarding the damaged package, reference #cnl7bn4pp3t649elon00, but the fact that Dr Martens accepted returned shoes in this condition and then sent them to someone else is unacceptable.

Surprisingly Comfortable
21 March 2023

I purchased the Jadon Pisa Platform and the Jadon boot (both at size 6) and the comfort difference is totally different. I'm a pretty consistent 6.5 even in boots. The lift for both boots is nice. I'm 5'0 and having any height is wonderful. These didn't look too weird either. Sometimes when I wear platform shoes, it's comical (think circus performer on stilts). The Jadon Pisa leather is softer, the foot bed is more comfortable and the weight is lighter. The leather scuffs easily and is more matte compared to the Jadon boot. I purchased a size 6 and it fits nicely. With med weight socks (so like a pair of stance socks), it's perfect. Big enough to accommodate thicker socks, but not so big that thinner socks wouldn't work either. The Jadon boot is very rigid, the ... MoreI purchased the Jadon Pisa Platform and the Jadon boot (both at size 6) and the comfort difference is totally different. Big enough to accommodate thicker socks, but not so big that thinner socks wouldn't work either. The Jadon boot is very rigid, the foot bed is ok and the weight is much heavier. The leather does not scuff and is more shiny/polished compared to the Jadon Pisa. I purchased a size 6 and it was roomier than the Jadon Pisa. I needed to wear way thicker socks to be able to really feel secure in the boot. It was enough room that I kept wondering if I should have sized down even further. Odd since the Jadon Pisa size 6 was so perfect.I wore both at home to decide which ones to keep. At first, I was going to keep the Jadon boot because at $170, I just didn't want my boots to be scuffed and look worn down too quickly. I wanted to keep them looking polished.I decided to wear the Jadon boots outside and it was an eye opener. I found myself dragging my feet because they were so heavy. The boot was so inflexible and the part where the tongue meets the body of the boot jabbed and rubbed at my ankles so much that I was sore the next day.In the end, I switched to the softer, but easily scuffed Jadon Pisa Platform. I could see myself avoiding wearing the bricks and if I'm going to spend this much, I want to be able to happily wear these all the time.

These dont work for me. I do not recommend them
31 January 2023

Now I am stuck with a pair of boots i will never wear. I bought my size and I look like I am wearing tree trunks on my feet. These are extremly heavy, the leather is very hard, there is no kind of lining inside, the arch support is terrible...I have to knot the laces really tight which stops the blood flow to my legs, in order to keep these boots from constantly rubbing on my heels, and this doesnt even help that much. The inside of the boot sole has no cushioning...it is hard like cement. I have a pair of galdiators sandals which i love. They are light and easy to wear, very soft to step on. I was expecting the same from the boots. These are so heavy, 1kg per boot. I had to scale them. I purchased in November and I didnt get a chance to return them. Well made comfy leather boot but runs large
29 February 2024

I'm a true 6.5 so I purchased the 7W/5M. It's pretty loose when worn around footbed (more wide) but not unbearable if worn with high boot socks and tied all the way to the top. It's a well structured boot, clunky heel, and the leather is nice and soft. I have walked in these for several hours and fortunately no blisters. I didn't get a chance to try a 6 but I know in normal boots 6 will not fit me and is tight around the toes. I gave it one less star because my pair shipped with a very strong stinky scent, almost like orange cleaning solution. It looked like it was a return but was probably not worn outside. Not a deal breaker since I kept it but probably worth going into the store to try before you purchase online.

comfortable.
28 June 2023

I purchased these in a woman’s 8. I am a true 7.5 but with wide feet. I also have a bunion. These boots get a bit narrow at the top which is why I’m glad I sized up. I can feel my pink toes right before the edge of the lateral side of the boot. I guarantee if I sized down my feet would be forced into a pointed position which is not good for my bunion. I have not walked around for long in these but they are comfortable just put on. I don’t feel any part that would run against my skin when walking but will find out with a long walk and will update. I really was contemplating sizing down but I’m definitely glad I sized up. If you have wide feet and half size, you’re probably better off sizing up.

not what I expected
21 September 2024

These shoes are wonderful, I love their design and the combination of softness and firmness of leather. However, I was greatly disappointed in the color. It is a Mauve color leather rather than taupe, it looks like it has a tint of purple/lavender which does not match any of my clothing color themes (neutrals/creams). They are heavy but I would be able to oversee that if it wasnt for the color. Unfortunately I will he returning them. I am a 9.5 and 9 fit perfectly.

pretty much perfect!
25 November 2023

These docs are pretty much perfect! I love the platform, it gives some height, and can be dressed up or down. I’ve had them for two weeks and have worn them with jeans, a dress, and a skirt (with tights). They are quite comfortable straight out of the box & the side zipper helps with getting them on and off. They run slightly big (I would have sized down a half size if possible) but I wear thick socks with them so it’s ok.Overall 10/10 recommend [especially while they are on sale!!]
