Beautiful boot, jury is out on comfort

Gorgeous, versatile boot! However…stiffly uncomfortable out of the box. I could not find a similar boot from another designer in my price range, so decided to check out the Doc Marten website. Their advice is to break them in slowly. Wear with thick socks, tied tightly, for 1-2 hours a day for the first week. I am currently conducting this experiment, and they are a bit better after day three. I wear a 9 1/2, and ordered a 9. The 10 would be too be big, especially in the heel, which slips even in the 9 if not tied tightly enough. Keeping my fingers crossed for continued improvement, since they are sooooo cute!

Do NOT size down

Do not size down if you are a whole size. I am a size 10. listened to reviews and sized down a whole size to 9. Big mistake! My toes touch the tip and the back of my heels are pushed against the back of the boot. UNCOMFORTABLE! With time, after breaking them in, WIDTH will loosen/get wider.. length will ALWAYS stay the same. My true Size 10 was perfect! I can put an insole in for comfort.. which I highly suggest! Long wear will start to affect the bottom of your toes and the ball of your foot. It's always better to feel like it's bigger than tighter. You can always wear thicker socks or an insole. You will definitely need to wear higher socks to prevent the boot from rubbing on your leg. Hence why staying with your true size. If you do choose to size down. Don't buy these!
15 September 2021

I'm a big fan of Docs for nearly 10 years and I have to say - the quality is getting WORSE and WORSE. Every year their sales grow, but the quality of boots suffers more and more. I don't want to tell you how UNCOMFORTABLE these boots are. And how many pain it will bring you until you'll finally have to throw them away because of holes in this plastic leather. The ones sold here is not a Polished Smooth leather anymore, it feels more like cheap Patent leather and it smells like fakes from Chinese cellars. I don't know if its Nordstrom or Doc Martens in general, but they are trying to fool us with these FAKE boots. Docs always stood for quality and comfort, now their philosophy is money. Great…but heavy and cuts into calves
14 August 2022

Just got my first new pair of docs in decades! These are very sturdy and exactly as pictured. I also love that they have a side zipper for easy in/out access. They are fairly heavy - it feels a bit like I’m standing in a cement block (and I’m pretty formidable!). Also, I noticed after wearing them around the house for just a minute or two - on both hard and soft surfaces - that they really cut into the lower calves. I loosed the lacing so it wasn’t so snug, but my calves were already pretty irritated this sucks because I’d like to wear them without high sucks or pants tucked into them. I don’t want to return them, so will Google for tips on stretching first

I'm in love
20 November 2021

I just received my boots today 11/19/21, I love them so much. I was a little apprehensive on whether to size down or keep my normal size. I normally wear a size 9 and that's the size I went with in the boots. They fit great I have a little room in toe if I want to wear thicker socks. My feet are narrow and flat. I read all the reviews on breaking them in. I have had them on my feet for about 5 hours now. I have done some walking but not too much. Minimal pain on a scale of 1-10 I would say a 1. I'm going to continue to wear them throughout the week. I did order the balsam polish which should help with softening the material. I wore high socks so there was no rubbing against my ankles.

So comfortable
1 January 2023

My plan was to make these silver, but then I saw them in person. I never thought white would look so good . I’m keeping them as is. I love the height, comfortable out of the box, true to size ( I wish docs were a bit narrower) and they don’t get dirty fast. I wore them outside in the rain and brushed my feet against wet boxes and nothing transferred. Still WHITE. The only bad thing is I still need shiny silver boots.

my review is for both shoes

I give the black boots a 5 star rating. They’re perfect! I love the way they feel on my feet. So freaking comfortable and they add a little height. They’re the reason I brought the white ones. But the white ones are terrible. Same shoes but a different color. They’re very uncomfortable. My socks slide down every time I walk. My black shoes never done that. I thought that maybe if I broke them in, things would change. But they didn’t. I even purchased a different kind of socks. From long socks to short length socks. But nothing helped. My socks still end up sliding down, making the shoes very uncomfortable to walk in. I give the white shoes a 1 star rating. I really wanted to like them. But for the price I paid, I want them to be comfy. Which they’re not at all. So ... MoreI give the black boots a 5 star rating. They’re perfect! I love the way they feel on my feet. When I tell you finding the best fit was a journey, I mean it. I originally purchased the Jadon Pisa and went true to size. They were huge!! They looked ridiculous on my foot. I tried these in a size down and they ripped my ankles and the top of my foot to shreds. I had high hopes for them but they didn’t work for me. I finally saw the Jadon Pisa in a size down and gave them a shot… call me Goldie Locks because they are just right! The OG Jadon is like a traditional doc marten really hard on your foot to break in. wear long socks!
4 April 2023

great looking shoes! pretty comfortable on the foot, tiny bit of discomfort after hours of wearing. the only thing i have to warn other buyers about is the need to wear long socks with these boots. the first day i wore them for about 5 hours and the top edge of the boot rubbed the skin on my calf/shin RAW! even after unlacing the top 2 eyelets. i have matching ringed scars around both of my legs from the scabs they left. PLEASE wear socks that are taller than the edge of the boot to avoid this. other than that, i love them.
