I even made an inquiry to DYMO concerning it and in their email to me they stated that indeed it came with a rechargeable battery whether bought as a single or in the kit. I ordered mine from Staples and the shipping box had a battery warning label on it, but when I opened the unit there was NO BATTERY nor charger. So if you are expecting to get a battery with the single unit you will be disappointed. Buy the kit instead.

Due to a bad design, the unit will ALWAYS be underpowered. In order to register a full battery it needs a battery at a minimum of 8V but with 6 rechargeable batteries, you can't get more than 7.2V (1.2V x 6 batteries). At 7.35v the unit says the batteries are dead and prints very poorly.The only solution is to constantly change out the batties with ONLY non-rechargeable alkaline batteries or possibly use Li-ion batteries that could provide the full 1.5V per battery giving the needed overall 9V. Overall not a great design, and could have been designed better and with more power resilience.Further, when you try to call them about this issue, they just send out a new unit that has the exact same issues.

For the price I paid, $57, the 4200 performs very well. The menu system works just fine, and is perfectly understandable. Anyone that is confused by said menu system, should probably just buy some peel and stick labels, along with a few pencils. I know this is the older model, but I think it's miles better. It's lighter, thinner, keys are more spacious, display is bigger, and it's much easier to hold than the taller models. I love the keyboard setup. The newer taller ones, you can really fat finger typing things. Everything feels balanced with the layout of the keyboard and numbers, functions, just everything. I don't need to hook this thing to my computer so there was no need to get the newer model. I just need to print labels for cables in different, fast, easy ways.

Now out of the workforce I still need from time to time the use of a printer to label home items including electrical equipment, switches, panels, storage containers, even my granddaughter's toys! My original equipment was the Brady 2200, which proved to be really nice but with a high initial cost, and a high cost for printing material. The Dyno Rhino 4200 unit was inexpensive, easy to use and tape materials are very reasonable. The only downside is for battery power use, as there is no warning to power use, so the printer will stop without any warning sometimes in the middle of a operation. So I strongly recommend ... I bought this thinking the labels would be better quality then the cheap ones but they are not. I bought the vinyl because it said it would stick to textured surfaces but it won't even stick to my pelican cases. I feel it is a waste of money as the cheap one I bought from my local supermarket sticks better. It does have some cool cable printing options but that's about it.
Where's the "&" symbol??The printing on the label is not very crisp. it seems it has a problem printing over where the backing separates on the back. The print is not consistent.
I bought this to make cable wraps, label patch panels, label computers, and other things such as what it claims to be for. The naming convention for our PC's includes underscores. It was only after purchasing that I discovered that there is no underscore option... WHAT? Underscores are extremely common in IT where you would be making barcodes and cable wraps... how is there no underscore!?Beyond that, it can be very confusing on how to accomplish certain tasks. It comes with a little guide booklet that helps a bit, but nothing is ever really explained. It just says "to accomplish this, press this button, then that button, then this button." So if I have a task that isn't specifically detailed in that booklet, it's a mystery trying to figure out how to do it.I ... This labeler is amazing mostly because of its ability to print on heat shrink labels. These are the greatest labels ever if you're doing a lot of wiring. I built a custom wiring harness for my race car and ended up using about 10 feet of 1/4" heat shrink label, two whole cartridges! The one thing I really don't like about this labeler is the way you get to symbols, even simple ones like + and -. You have to go to symbols and scroll down to math and then scroll over to the symbol you want. The good news is that you can save favorite phrases to add to your label. I saved + and - and a few other common symbols as single character favorite labels and now I can add them with fewer button presses. This makes the problem better, but not great.
