I'm very wary of hype, particularly when there is a price tag associated with the hype. For this reason, I have avoided Dyson products in the past. But having moved from a carpeted apartment to all hard floors, I really notice the amount of dust balls and dirt that builds up daily. There was no way I could be bothered dragging out the corded upright vacuum every couple of days, so I bit the bullet and bought the Dyson Omni-Glide, after researching several stick vacuums. The Omni-Glide is not the same as the hard floor attachment of the "regular" Dyson stick vacuums. The Omni-Glide is designed specifically for hard floors, so don't expect it to work well on carpet - I already have a vacuum for that purpose which will stay in the cupboard unless I absolutely need it.Being a renter, I also don't need to install the charger - it is so lightweight that it can hang from a small Command hook when I'm using the vacuum and just clips on afterwards. The container capacity is quite small, but it's enough for vacuuming a 2 bed apartment every couple of days.I never thought I would be so happy with a fricking vacuum!

For context, I've also got two slightly older Dyson vacuums: a DC41 upright from 2014, and a DC44 cordless from 2013.My overall experience with the omni-glide has been really positive, but there's definitely pros and cons.Pros:1) First, let's talk about the new dual fluffy rollers head, which is the biggest pro by far.Compared to every other vacuum I've used, the new head really does feel like something special, and if your home has hard floors everywhere, I believe it is a better head than everything else which has ever been made by any manufacturer. I'm not exaggerating, it's genuinely a joy to use and picks up everything! The way it's been designed also means it has a lower profile than anything else I've ever used, which means you can clean under more ... I'm not exaggerating, it's genuinely a joy to use and picks up everything! The way it's been designed also means it has a lower profile than anything else I've ever used, which means you can clean under more things. The way the head glides actually does live up to the hype - it has little rollers underneath it and a really flexible articulated joint, so it rolls effortlessly across the floor and around things like chair legs, the way I find myself moving it around feels almost like a mop, it's that flexible!2) The handheld unit is certainly small and light, which is likely a plus for smaller spaces and more slender people!3) The bin is really easy to empty - the way it scrapes the dust off the grating inside as you slide it open is definitely better than the older cordless bins which you had to tap a lot to get all the dust out of.4) The handheld attachments are well designed, and the small rotary tool works great for vacuuming the sofa fabric etc.Cons:1) This is not a vacuum for carpets or rugs. The fluffy roller head just doesn't work well on them (in fact, in my experience the rollers stop spinning and it just doesn't vacuum much at all without them). There's no full size floor head included which would work on carpets - the only option you have is the smaller rotary head which is really designed for upholstery and would be very slow to vacuum a whole room with. So, if your home has carpets, I'd suggest you get the more versatile full size cordless vacuum instead (e.g. the new V15).2) While the unit is small and light, the bin is also quite small so when vacuuming all of my 1 bedroom flat, I found myself emptying the bin halfway through. Not a huge inconvenience, but again, if you have a slightly larger area or the idea of emptying the bin halfway through a clean sounds super annoying to you, I'd probably recommend going for the V15 instead.3) There's no way provided to store the attachments (e.g. to mount them on the wall with the charger like the rest of the cordless vacuum range do), and there's no way provided to carry the attachments around with the vacuum while you're cleaning. This is a minor thing, but having to go back through from one end of the house to the other to get the nozzle to vacuum a tight spot halfway through is annoying!I wish they'd provide a detachable attachment clip or something to attach the nozzles to the vacuum unit itself while you're going around - I'd personally find that much nicer than remembering to carry them around in my pocket or something.4) The battery life is fairly short, especially if you use the "boost" mode at all (you only get a couple of minutes runtime in this mode!). I don't think this is unreasonable, as it's a trade-off between weight vs battery life - I think they made a good choice there, and the battery is easy to remove/replace.However, there's only 1 battery included, and the vast majority of customers probably aren't going to proactively go and spend more money on a second battery. So, unless they choose to include a second battery in the box, I think it's reasonable to review as if you only have one battery.Let's be clear - I have a small 1 bed flat, and in the low power mode I can - just about - vacuum my whole flat with this battery. It's ok, but without a second battery ready to hot-swap in, I'm always slightly worried about it running out at an annoying point, which causes me to treat it more like a tool I need to use short and frequently (like, vacuuming for 5 minutes every day) rather than ever vacuuming the whole home at once.Summary:This is a great vacuum for a small, hard-floor only home, and the new head is remarkably flexible (watch my video review to see what I mean!).If you have a larger home, or home with some carpets/rugs? Don't buy this. Get the more versatile V15 cordless instead. In general, I don't quite understand why this product exists! I mean, I think the new head is amazing and I've literally raved about it to friends, but I think it should just be sold as an attachment / option for the regular V15 cordless, aimed at people who have hard floors.Perhaps there's more of a demand than I expect for smaller, hard floor only vacuums with shorter runtime.

Now I spend less time cleaning more grime. My one major gripe with this product—and this does surprise me as Dyson are very operable—are the 4 wheels on the omnidirectional soft roller cleaner. Those 4 wheels are magnets for hair! Multiple times a week, I find myself using an exacto to cut the hair out. I’ve had this unit for 9 months now and unlike many other reviews, I have had absolutely no problems. I have a 3 level, townhome with hard wood floors and stairs and this vacuum handles it all. The pivoting head gets into all the hard places. I can do 2 entire floors and 2 flights of stairs on a single charge. I’ve had no issues with the vacuum holding it’s charge. Others have claimed that hair is an issue for this vacuum, but I have long hair that seems to shed everywhere and have had no issues. My only criticism is that the dust/debris container is a little small and can open rather quickly when going to empty the container possibly getting some dust not into the trash if you’re not careful. Otherwise, I am very happy with this vacuum. For those complaining it ... MoreI’ve had this unit for 9 months now and unlike many other reviews, I have had absolutely no problems. For those complaining it doesn’t vacuum their throw rugs, it isn’t designed to do that and clearly states it, so complaints about that scattered in the negative reviews are due to human/operator error, not the device.
Let me start with how Dyson has changed our attitude to hoovering… When we purchased a V11 Absolute last year our family went from “everybody hates hoovering” to “everybody loves hoovering”. It has made cleaning so much easier with the smart design, ease of use and great performance. So based on that experience we had high expectation towards the new addition to our Dyson family. We received the Omni-glider and it was obvious instantly this is a more compact machine then the V11. It is like a smaller, lighter version. It was probably less than a minute to ensemble it and another maybe 2 minutes to glance over the little "how to” booklet and we were ready to use the new gadget. It was probably less than a minute to ensemble it and another maybe 2 minutes to glance over the little "how to” booklet and we were ready to use the new gadget. First impression was the Omni-glider did glide over the hard floor surface very smoothly. Changing direction is just turning a little the handle with no real effort needed. It was like hoovering an ice rink… Very easy to go into corners and go around furniture. I asked my daughter to give it a try, she took it to her room and a few minutes later she came back stating “dad, I will never use the other one again…” and she was talking about the V11. Well, let me clarify however the Omni-glider does not replace the big brother and I assume it wasn’t Dyson's intention to do so, it is more like a light edition of it. It is smaller, lighter and quicker to use because it hoovers in both directions, pushing or pulling… Battery life obviously is less than the V11 and it can also store much less debris however that is how it can be lighter and take up less space. It is necessary to empty it after each use not only because it is small enough but because it sucks up so much dirt that is not even visible on the floor when using it. Emptying it is as easy as it is the V11 so it really takes only 5 seconds. I noticed however a couple of times that longer hair is stuck in it so that I had to remove by hand which can be tricky if you have larger hands. Using it now for a couple of days in our two bedroom apartment I can say we used it a number of times for a few minutes each time and it lasted 2-3 days until it needed to be charged. If I had to estimate battery life I’d say it would last to do 3-4 rooms properly. It is very quick to hoover with the Omni glider and it actually is quite a satisfying process :-) It comes with the usual handy tools. Dyson, thank you for another smart gadget. Keep up the good work.
I liked the idea that they are making a smaller vacuum that is lighter and has a flexible motorhead. The omni-glide motorhead with double rollers is surely flexible, however it stops spinning as soon as it touches a rug. There are of course different surfaces in a room, such as rug, tiles, hardwood etc. I can't be switching motorhead whenever I want to vaccuum a rug. It's not efficient. Once the motorhead stops spinning, no dirt gets picked up, and I have to turn off and on the machine, then as soon as it touches the rug, it stops spinning again.Let's talk about the design of the handle. Even though overall the machine is a pound lighter than the other ones, the majority of the weight is on the handle where the battery and chip is. The handle is a stick with smooth plastic surface, which means you have to be gripping hard all the time in order to push and pull. It definitely does not feel like I'm gliding effortlessly. Dyson needs to keep in mind that a lot of customers are women who does not have as much hand strength as men, they should make things easier to grip like the traditional Dyson machines. I get that the handle looks this way because you can push the vacuum under a bed and get into all the corners, but you can do better than a SMOOTH round handle. Even SCREWDRIVERS have grooves to provide easy grip. Hope this inspires you to rethink your smooth stick handle. The smaller motorhead provided for carpet cleaning is great for stairs. No bigger head is provided for carpet rooms which needs a bigger head for coverage. Overall, very disappointed with this product. Too many flaws.
Having a family of 5 with 3 little ones (no animals) time is always of the essence to get housework done. Over the course of the past 10 years, we’ve always used swiffer sweepers, swiffer vacs, along with swiffer dusters. Let me tell you, we absolutely love it!One of the nicest features is that it has amazing suction, the rollers are easy to clean, and if hair gets tangled in it overtime, pop out the rollers and untangle, the battery charges quick, and last a long time. Our house is not huge, approx. 2400 sq. ft. With lots of hardwood flooring and LVP, And the battery last the duration.Over the course of owning swiffers, with buying new pads and the swiffer vacuum battery’s dying, this offsets that cost. This Dyson is not cheap, and I’ve noticed the price went up $50 since I last purchased it (paid $399), but I still feel it’s a good value. So much that we purchased one and for my in-laws, and one for my parents for Christmas (I purchased on Dyson’s website).I will note, purchasing off of Dyson’s website you do receive a free bag & free crevice tool, Best Buy‘s website does not offer that.My little ones love pushing it around and sucking up “mama hairs”.One minor qualm, as I wish the roller head was a little bit bigger. It would cover more space a bit quicker, but not a dealbreaker.
Omni-glide it is an additional tool to have at home to deal with the small jobs, spot cleans, getting into crevices, under furniture, dry spills, that sort of thing. The smaller battery, there is no power compromise that I noticed during my short time with the machine. The only downside after 18 minutes (5minutes on turbo) you must charge for three and a half hours. Another option to invest in second battery, good thing you can switch batteries and charge it independently. It is not as powerful as the V11, but I have not put it through a rigorous test yet to see how it stacks up against the older Dyson handsticks. That said, it is handy to sweep up accidental kitchen spills or clean up a single room, provided it has a hard floor. What I really like, though, is its ability to get into crawlspaces that would normally be the abode of dust bunnies you cannot usually get at.It does work as a handheld unit, and its light weight only 1.5Kg means you can dust the high places on your walls without tiring your arm.I cannot say the Omni-glide can hold its own against its bigger, more expensive siblings, it has its place at home – provided you have the money to spare. For a vacuum that can only be used on a specific type of floor (hard floor only) and has an extremely limited battery life, and it is expensive. I tried to work on the carpet with different attachment brush, is very difficult and tiring you can do it on a small area but hoovering large area of carpet or rug maybe not the job for Omni-glide. It moves smoothly and does a good job of sucking up anything dry. You will need to be wary of hair/fur sticking to the roller pads but, hey, it is washable! There is small flow in design the hair is going on the roller behind the brush be aware of that.I try the Omni-glide on some serious messes in my house to see how it performs, not doubting it will cope with anything. Combine good engineering of new fluffy brush and suction (made in Dyson) can clean anything.
Our Omni-Glide is great. It gets used much more than our other stick vacuum and has put our canister completely out of business. It's so easy, so light, so flexible and so comfortable. It's a great product and I hope Dyson continues to make and support it for a long time. It's a light duty vacuum. It won't pick up pebbles. But as an every-night crumb cleaner-upper it's perfect. Or as an occasional dust remover for back corners it does a great job. It's small, and that gets it into small places, square into corners, and it does the job. It's thin and will vacuum under almost anything. The main thing is, it's so easy it gets used. The few negatives: It's small, so large areas take more swaths than a wider vacuum. Its dust bin is small so you have to empty it every so often. But emptying it is trivial and clean. The head needs to be cleaned occasionally as dust gets caked around the rotating rollers and they stop rolling. Cleaning the head takes about five minutes and you're good for another several weeks. The Dyson website shows that most replacement parts are unavailable. So far the only parts I'd think about replacing eventually are the little wheels that allow the head to glide so effortlessly. Eventually they will wear down especially on our tile floors. Probably less so on smooth hardwood floors.A great little vacuum.
This is not my first shark purchase, I love my other vacuum. But we had to replace all of our floors on the lower level back in March due to hurricane damage. We paid a fortune for LVT and I wanted to make sure that what I purchased would not scratch the floors and would actually work very well. My regular vacuum did not work at all on the new floors. I’ve had the vacuum for about two months and I absolutely love love it! I was very concerned about the battery time of 20 minutes. But my bottom floor is 1500 ft.² and I have not once had the battery die on me! It works very well on the normal level so I have not really used the Max vacuum level but a few times and I still have not run out of battery. When you get done always take it out and plug it in to charge. But I ... MoreThis is not my first shark purchase, I love my other vacuum. It has not scratched my floors at all! And I actually get into places that I couldn’t with the regular vacuum because of the way that the head swivels. I would absolutely recommend this! To me it’s worth the money.
