Eatwell 5 Meal Pet Feeder
The PetSafe 5-Meal Pet Feeder has got you covered at mealtimes. This automatic pet feeder has a removable tray with 5 sections that each hold 230g of dry or semi-moist food. You can schedule 1-5 meals per day for your cat or dog using the digital clock. You can select the time your pet is fed down to the minute. Once the schedule is set, your pet’s meals will automatically be served at the same time each day. When you fill the feeder, one meal will be available and ready for your pet to eat. When it’s time for the next meal, the tray will rotate so your pet can access their food. If your dog tends to eat his food too quickly, or if you want to help manage your pet’s weight, use the 5-Meal Pet Feeder to schedule smaller meal portions to keep your pet healthy. When it’s time to clean the feeder, place the removable tray in the top rack of the dishwasher for easy clean-up. Your pet deserves the best.

I had to buy 2 of these new style battery operated feeders. I was very surprised to find that x4 large batteries (rather than the smaller AA batteries) are required and the only way to switch off the device is to remove the rather cumbersome batteries. The timer is more accurate but the whole unit is very large and heavy. There is still work to be done to bring this feeder up to date. The loud whirring noise is off-putting to one of my more nervous cats and it took several attempts for her to get used to it.

This is a game changer. I can set the times, amount of food, and not have to worry about someone not getting fed on time. It takes one or two days for the pet to know the schedule. It’s also perfect when someone comes in to feed your pet. The only problem I’ve had is when the time changed. My cat kept looking for the food at the “old” time. She reminds me when it’s time to refill the slots, which I do every evening. I’m not sure if it’s her internal schedule or if she can smell that the food tray is empty.

This product is really cool but unfortunately not very durable. I rarely review products but have to comment on this one because I think it is a GOOD item that could be AWESOME with just a few minor improvements. The bowl turns perfectly with the times I have programmed and it allowed me to sleep in over the weekend when my dog is used to being fed at 6am. If you have a cat or a small/easygoing dog, this item should work well for you. I, on the other hand, have a 22 lb., 11 year old beagle who is very calm and lazy, except when food is involved - then she morphs into a ravenous wolf. I have had this feeder for less than a week and my senior dog has broken into it 4 times. I have had this feeder for less than a week and my senior dog has broken into it 4 times. She has had little success chewing away the edges of the cover near the bowl opening (see photo), but the real issue is the locking mechanism on the front that is pretty ineffective at keeping the cover closed. The lock should be much stronger so it cannot be so easily manipulated. Next, while the feeder isn’t light like a normal bowl, it also isn’t heavy enough to prevent a dog from sliding or tossing it around a bit. Even if the aforementioned lock worked properly, the feeder would still be problematic because anytime my dog gets even a little rough with it (again, she is 11 years old and 22 lbs - she is not a 100 lb puppy), the battery compartment opens, the batteries dislodge, and the entire feeder shuts down. As a result, I’ve had to reset the clock and feeding times nearly each day since I bought this item. It worries me that my dog could simply rattle around the feeder a bit, dislodge the batteries, and then she would not be fed in a timely manner unless I’m home and notice it. I literally have had to use packing tape to keep the battery compartment as well as the feeder cover closed. The product’s designers should have thought through these potential issues to ensure it could withstand a little abuse by a curious dog. Bottom line: Could be worth the $$ to someone else under different circumstances, but not durable enough to make it worth it to me.

I adopted a one year 4 month old female (rescued from a hoarding situation) nearly 3 years ago, to be a companion to my year old male. She ate all his food every day and he honestly didn't care as he is a "grazer", eating only 4-5 bites at a time. I bought him a feeder cued to his ID chip--problem solved--but she would inhale her food in one sitting and still be hungry. Enter PetSafe Feeder. Over time, she learned that food would always be available, and enjoyed the timed meal intervals. Well, I broke her PetSafe Feeder last week (batteries in all this time never needed changing) and started feeding her like a normal cat. She became somewhat depressed! Over time, she learned that food would always be available, and enjoyed the timed meal intervals. Well, I broke her PetSafe Feeder last week (batteries in all this time never needed changing) and started feeding her like a normal cat. She became somewhat depressed! I ordered a new PetSafe for her even though she didn't need it anymore, and when it arrived today and she saw it, she perked up, started chirping happily while I set it up. Her noon meal is timed to spin open in about 10 minutes now, and she's already perched near, waiting to get back to her comfortable routine. And then I'll know if my new PetSafe works!! PS--I broke the last one when I hid their food from them to prepare for a DNA test (they cannot eat anything for a few hours before the test), and I put a folded blanket over hers in a closed off bedroom to muffle the sound. Evidently, that was enough to mess up the balance and gears because I could not get it to work properly again.
I bought this product to ensure my pets don't miss a feeding. The design of this product leads to missed feedings. The only power source is 4x D batteries, with no ability to plug in the device. So as long as you are there to ensure the batteries haven't lost power, your pet will be fed. If you are gone for a prolonged period of time and the batteries die, so do your animals. Great job, PetSafe!
My Siberian has odd hours throughout the day and early morning for 2 medications. I swiped and invisible coating of peanut butter in each tray to overpower the plastic scent. Non-chewable medicines I put in edible-when-raw cookie dough. She hears the feeder move to the next slot and she comes running after just the second time training her. This give us human pack members (me) freedom to go shopping, visiting, anything you want and not have to worry about missing a medicine time. Day 2 and now she sleeps near it. Huskies are "special."
I purchased this unit a few weeks ago before a weekend trip away. I got it several days before my scheduled trip and it seemed to work well and I think it worked while I was away, but today I'm not sure. I have been hearing it move twice in the morning since I have been off work all weekend. I was wondering why some of the compartments still had food in them and others completely empty. I do notice when I hear the unit move my cat goes running towards it. The setting of the unit is certainly not straight forward there are 9 options and 5 spots, but only 4 if you don't count the open one. The instructions were less than informative. I did determine something by reading the "Questions" portion today.
I love these, but I’m going to offer some product suggestions: a) ac power option, with replaceable & rechargeable lithium battery as backup b) stackable; it would be great to be able to stack these at a 90 degree angle to save floor space for multi-cat households. Also, my cats like to lay on top of them. Perhaps latching legs at the front that can fold out if needed and a flat top, etc. c) another material option? the exterior plastic is a cat hair magnet
I recently added the PetSafe 5 Meal Pet Feeder to my cats routine. I'm really happy that I did. It makes things so much easier AND healthier for her. My Carly is over weight. A recent trip to the vet let us know that she needed to slim down a bit. Leaving food out for continuous consumption was not working. So instead of having to fill her dish up with measured portions multiple times A-day, I now just use this machine and she is fed on a schedule. Which I find to be wonderful because she seems to go throughout her day more awake perky, and sleeping at regular intervals. I love that I can put smaller portions in the trays and once it's gone it's gone until the next tray swings around. Giving her a morning and evening feeding without evening having to think about it. ... MoreI recently added the PetSafe 5 Meal Pet Feeder to my cats routine. I'm really happy that I did. I will say that I totally expected this to have a humming or ticking sound. However, it did not. It only took one day for Carly to get used to it. I Don't normally leave her alone for extended time, however, if I absolutely had to my mind would be at ease because I know I have this to feed her. She will have up to 5 meals pre planned and ready to go if I have an extended emergency or what have you. The digital timer is super easy to program. Reading the instructions once is all it took. This particular model takes 4-D Size batteries which seem fine. I've had the machine almost a month and I haven't had to replace them yet. The one cup portion sections are perfect for leaving enough food for your pet. And like I said it's helped her to cut down on her weight. Whether you feed your cat twice A-day or more, wanna leave for an overnight trip or just have more than one day set up, this Pet feeder from pets safe will work for you.
I have been using this pet feeder for a few weeks and I really like it. I work long hours and I am not always home at my cat's dinner time, so this gives me great peace of mind. It is very easy to fill the chambers; you just lift the lid and fill the 5 reserves with up to a cup of food each. Programming the timer was actually quite simple; you can do whatever combination you need. I set mine to twice daily feeds, but you can do more or less as needed. It is very easy to use and I like it a lot. There are two small things I would change. One is that this runs on batteries only. This can get expensive as it needs 4 D batteries. I would LOVE an option for a power cord with battery backup. This way I would save on battery costs, but still feel reassured that if the ... MoreI have been using this pet feeder for a few weeks and I really like it. I would LOVE an option for a power cord with battery backup. This way I would save on battery costs, but still feel reassured that if the power went out, my cat would still be fed. The other issue I would change is that one of the five food reserves is always out. This reduces the number of meals you can have planned in advance. Occasionally I take weekend trips and a self feeder is perfect to tend to my cat, since my cat is self sufficient other then feedings. Ideally I would put one portion of food out right before I leave, and then have the feeder be able to give five auto meals. Unfortunately with one meal always available, you can only have 4 advanced meals. Overall this product works very well and has been very helpful for my hectic schedule. And as a bonus, my cat has stopped harassing me for food at all times of the day and night since he sees the feeder as his food source. No more waking me up 5am for breakfast! I definitely recommend this product.
