This purchase was to replace a failing printer. I chose Epson based on reviews and a friend's recommendation. I chose the XP970 specifically because research showed it to be ideal for printing guitar tablature, and creating high-quality labels for my products and prints of my watercolor paintings. So far I've only printed documents, guitar tablature, and labels, but this printer did all those tasks incredibly well, and a lot faster than my last printer! It's a bit big for my space but I've made it work, and I'm definitely not complaining as I adore this printer and have yet to find a disappointing feature. Very impressed with Epson XP-970. Print speed is better that Canon MG7500 series. Black/White print is as good or better. Colour print quality on plain paper is improved over Canon. Have not tested photo paper yet. Control panel is intuitive and easy to use. Wifi connected first time. Scanning quality maybe an improvement as well. so far ..a step up! Only negative is the physical size is slightly larger, so takes up more desk space. Ink cartridges don't appear to be large ..unable to establish ink usage in short time of ownership. No problems with order via Scorptec

There is a distinct improvement in print quality and speed compared to my existing Printer which is another brand. Competition is rising up for this class of printer, but the XP 970 is a very good 17" desktop printer that every photographer ought to consider. Copying is fast. Scanning is faster too...and 600 dpi gives the enough clarity that is needed for me however the maximum resolution is 4800dpi. It prints a 4X6 photo in about 10 seconds. Additionally there are multiple ways you can print wirelessly (Epson Connect, Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print) and you can scan to cloud. Bring able to control the printer from Alexa and Google home is a plus point. Additionally it comes with SD card slot and it does support Memory Stick Duo and CompactFlash card through USB 2.0 with the ability to connect to internet using Ethernet or Wi-Fi options. Auto Photo Correction with advanced face detection as well as red-eye removal and photo restoration capabilities are definitely few add-ons a photographer may be interested in. Overall, this is a great printer for personal and home use. I feel this is definitely worth the money. Nevertheless to say that printers are prone to problems anytime. The Epson XP-790 is a joy to own. I have had it for just a couple of weeks, and I have already been successfully printing beautiful photos for clients. The setup was very self-explanatory, and my printer wirelessly connected to my computer with no issues. It is easy to load the various sizes of photo paper in the trays and then select the correct settings. The printer also has troubleshooting steps and help built into it. I was already able to fix an issue simply by following the troubleshooting step suggested. I'm very happy with my purchase.
I purchased the Epson Expression XP950 in March, 2015. It reached the end of it's useful life December 17, 2022. It looks like the XP970 is the updated version of my printer, so I'm reviewing here. I used this printer often and printed hundreds of beautiful borderless photos with it. I was disappointed when it suddenly quit last Saturday night because it has been so faithful all these years. I didn't use the 11x17 print size as much as I thought I would, so I'm purchasing the XP-8700 this time. I only hope it serves me as well as the 950. I've had several Epson printers over the years and for quality photos, you can't beat Epson.

The first one lasted about 3-1/2 years, the second for 2 and this last one only 6 months. My wife and I are retired. We have a laser printer for B&W documents, so use our color printer less often. I know lack of regular use will sometimes cause the print head of an inkjet to become clogged. So after the second printer started showing signs of clogging after about a year of use, I used a graphics program to develop a full sheet of 1 square colored boxes in a range of colors and shades. Nothing seemed to work. I finally noticed that the nozzle check was showing the exact same pattern of clogged nozzles each time. I now believe that it's the print head itself that's failed or reached the limit of it's planned obsolence rather than the ink clogging the nozzles. Each printer head failed sooner that the last because I used it to print more, due to my weekly test pages, than the last. My next color printer will not be an Epson Expression.
The price is great. The print quality for PHOTOS is excellent. The print quality for regular copy paper is so so & the printer is not fast. I used to have the XP960 which was very similar. This is reasonably small, but I would love a printer that is a little smaller. I wish it were a little quieter, faster, & better looking. (Why are all printers black, big, & clunky looking?). I bought this because I needed a printer in a hurry & overall it is pretty good. Despite my criticisms, I am happy with it.

Its lightweight, compact with sturdy built and a large responsive screen that automatically comes up when turned on and a foldable flap to scan which keeps my originals safe. With that said, I tend to lean more on the Epson brand because they seem more durable, are intuitive and look really nice. In today's world of high tech we need to be able to print out documents and pictures in great quality. We get used to seeing our nice screens so it's only fair that our printed images look as best as they can. This Epson XP-970 does not disappoint! I have 2 other printers that I use almost daily and they don't compare to the amazing pictures this Epson printer prints out. It has an SD card reader and 1 USB port. It also has Voice Activated Printing with Alexa and Google. I used it to print my shopping list! Wow! The setup was super easy! Place it somewhere, plug it in and follow on-screen instructions. My kids use it for High School and College and they are amazed on the quality of the print. It's very neat and there's no runoffs or blurring. It comes with a manual in a few different languages and an install CD for PC. You can always download the Creative apps on any device and it gives you the option to do pretty much anything you'd want to do on a printer with all these options. I'm extremely happy with this printer and the price is definitely fair for all the features and great quality you get out of it.
