Essentials Tomato Paste in a can. The idea of the small can seemed daunting to begin with. I have tried jars, plastic tubs, foil sachets and squeeze tubes, but not cans for some time. I wasnât looking forward to dealing with opening a relatively small tin (170g) with a can opener. Luckily, it has a ring-pull top so it wasnât so bad after all. This 0. 95c tin of paste is produced in China and is great if you are on a budget and donât mind the origin of your produce. I have also used the Woolies 415g tomato paste squeeze bottle, but this also uses fully imported tomato paste. The Essentials 500g jar is the same. Leggos claim 100% Australian product. The four-pack of foil sachets from Woolies does use fully Australian product. Great news. I think I will keep selecting the Aussie product. There are possibly some bisphenols in the internal plastic lining of the steel can, so I used a small wooden spoon to avoid scraping the lining into my cooking. The product seems to be a rich red tomato paste. Contains only tomato and salt. It cooked well in one of my favourite dishes, pasta alla vodka, which did turn out very delicious indeed!I used the entire can because I didn't want to fuss with a half-can of leftover paste. This allowed for some leftovers for a work lunch. At least the larger than expected quantity makes for better value out of your cooking efforts.

Little Tin - Big Job that it does well every time! We were very happy with this sample. We have used Woolworths Essentials Tomato Paste in the 170g tin quite a few times and always find it great. We quite often swap between Tomato Pastes depending on our needs, however they all have a very short use by period once opened (generally 5 days) so the larger ones can lead to quite a bit of wastage. We do buy them occasionally and freeze what is left over in ice cube trays and place the frozen cubes into zip lock bags, and they can be used in casseroles etc later on. When looking for convenience and good price, these are what we go for though. For example we used this for Chicken Parmigianaâs so therefore needed only a small amount and fresh from a tin or jar to spread ... MoreLittle Tin - Big Job that it does well every time! This size tin is perfect for that and so cost effective at only. 95cents a tin. The amount remaining we just used in a Bolognaise Sauce. The flavour is rich and tasty and the tin is easy to open with a ring pull. We highly recommend this item, and have used it often. Thanks so much for the sample Bunch, it was greatly appreciated

Great size and very tasty. I love this tomato paste. The size is perfect for me. I've found the larger bottles or jars tend to go mouldy quickly but with this one, I use it up in one meal or at most within a few days and dont have that issue. It's a good price at 95c. I used it in a slow cooked beans and beef dish with tomatoes. The texture is quite smooth and it's very tasty - a little sweet and not too acidic. My kids were eating it by the spoonful and they are not big fans of tomato so that's a great plus. I'll definitely buy it again. Thanks for the sample bunch!

You get what you see! Very easy to find this amongst the pasta sauce. Red can stands out. Basic but easy to identify. Can comes with a ring pull, which is fantastic. I feel that it is the perfect size - have never needed tomato paste in a large quantity. I used this on a pizza that I made and honestly feel that it's got the right balance of flavour - worked really well with the rest of the ingredients on the pizza. It's the right acidity. I don't like that there are no details in the ingredients list. Why does it list tomato paste as an ingredient? It is also made in China. That is why I have removed a star. Fantastic value for money. This was only 90c!Would definitely buy again. Yes, those are pineapples on the pizza
Everyday Essential. Great flavour and texture. Perfect for spaghetti bolognaise and cooking. I usually purchase the 500g jar which has a much better price per 100g but it can go mouldy if not used in a timely manner. This product is more expensive per 100g but is a better portion size for our family. I'll probably continue to purchase the larger jar more often than this small tin though, and freeze the tomato paste if I believe I won't use it before going mouldy. I will purchase this size again if I am going camping and to have in the cupboard as a back up. Overall, good flavour and definitely an "essential" for me!
Convenient size! This took me a while to try. I know, just judge a book by its cover, but this tin just didn't draw me in. After years of buying the more common size jars of tomato paste, promising myself i'd freeze the rest in usable size only to throw it out of the fridge weeks later moudly, i bit the bullet and gave it a shot. I've significantly reduced my waste of tomato paste, because I likely use it all in one go! I even love that it is in a tin because it is easier to recycle than trying to take those labels off the jars. I honestly can't even taste the difference between any of the brands available. I will continue to buy this product.
Great product, great price. I have to admit that I'm not a regular user of tomato paste - when a recipe calls for it, I generally substitute it with tomato sauce - so I was quite interested to see what difference the 'real deal' would make. I love the small size of this product - doesn't leave you with the storage / freshness issue if you don't use a lot of it. I was able to use the whole tin in a two week period and the contents stayed fresh throughout. I've used it in a number of recipes - spaggy bol, home made rissoles, pasta bakes and a casserole - and it provided a great depth of flavour to each. I definitely noticed a difference in the taste, when compared to using tomato sauce as a substitute - this is much richer. Overall, this has definitely encouraged me to continue using tomato paste and, if so, this will probably be the product I choose to purchase.
Convenient sized and just right for everything. Great sized jar at a great price. I like the Woolworths Essentials Tomato Paste in 170g jars. Never have any left overs go moldy but if I do have left overs, it's easy to just pop into a tiny plastic Tupperware container or some ice cube moulds and freeze for the rainy day when you need a spoonful and no more. It doesn't have an overbearing or weak taste. Tastes great on Pizzas, in pastas or as a substitute for tomato sauce dipping when you find you've run out and the kids want hotdogs. Will I buy it again, yes I have and will continue to do so.
Essential pantry item. This tomato paste is the one thing I normally buy for recipes. I like that itâs a small 170g ring pull tin, with just enough to use for cooking, no waste, and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. 4. 5 âď¸ health star rating. Great flavour. The one thing I didnât like, is that itâs now produced in China. Priced at $0. 95- a great budget price. This tasted amazing in my nachos. Recyclable tin. Backed by Woolworths replace or refund, if youâre not happy.
Good pantry item. Very handy to have in the pantry for those times you need tomato paste but don't want to head out to the shops. The tomato paste tastes as it should and is a great addition to so many recipes. The ring pull on the can opened easily, which is always nice as some of them can be hard work to pull up. The one thing I didn't like so much about this particular item is when it is in a tin what is leftover has to be transferred into a small zip lock bag or small container and kept in the freezer. This is exactly why when I buy tomato paste I buy the boxes of sachets, so there is no measuring or messing around saving leftovers. I won't be buying this tin, but I will stick with my Woolworths brand tomato paste sachets.
