Tasty. I'm not a big gravy person (I'll occasionally use it to top chips and that's about it). This is cheap and very affordable for the average family. The packaging could do with a rethink to so. ething fresher than the standard brown that pretty much every gravy sports but I love that the box is recyclable. This was easy to make and you can tweak the strength by adding a little more or less water and a touch of salt. Very kid friendly flavour and didn't get any complaints on it. If you're in a pinch and need gravy this'll do the job!

Bland tasting. I wasn't overly impressed with the taste of this essentials tradition gravy mix. I used the stove top method. I added a dash light soy to enhance its flavour. Directions for each method are easy to follow. Microwave, stove top or baking dish. Health star rating is 2. 5. Made in Australia from at least 85% Australian ingredients. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Easily located in store. Value for money for those on a budget.

Recommend. I followed the instructions when making the gravy. Everyone loved it except me - it wasn't as thick as I like. The next time I made it I altered the directions, instead of 1. 5tbsp of powder I used 2tbsp. I preferred the new consistency and the family still enjoyed eating it. I would buy this again, as it uses more Australian ingredients in comparison to our old brand. The price is excellent, our old gravy was $0. 42/10g VS $0. 07/10gThe presentation looks cheap and nasty, so I wouldn't be surprised if people avoid buying it thinking the product would taste cheap and nasty too.

Our favourite gravy. Thank you for the opportunity to sample this as this is our go to gravy. We usually Buy this gravy as its one that the whole family enjoys even my picky young son which is alway a bonus for me. We have had other brands but we always go back to this one. The gravy is easy to find instore and at a great family budget price. It is simple to use and tasty, we use it all the time and it always mixes well and is thick and delicious. This gravy is one we always have in the cupboard. I would recommend it especially on roasts and we will continue to buy it.
Many uses for this gravy powder. I used some the gravy powder in a mince dish I made to add flavour. It made it very tasty and have it a nice brown colour. For the price it is a good product. It makes a lovely gravy. Biggest problem I had was that even though I had read it contained gluten I without thinking added to the mince. Only as I served it did I remember it had gluten. Husband thoroughly enjoyed it and so far no side affects. Fingers crossed I very rarely make that mistake.
Pre-made gravy. As someone who doesn't really like pre-made gravy, this sample was interesting. I had a look at the competitors, the equivalent seemed to be "Gravox Gravy Mix Traditional 425g". Their packaging was more appealing, but was $4. 50, as opposed to this product at $2. 90. Interestingly the ingredients were identical (although the Woolies one had a fraction more salt). This product is Australian made with 85% Aussie ingredients (I assume this is the flour). It was easy to find in store, although tucked on the bottom shelf. Although the packaging is plain, the necessary information is given. I made this gravy following stove top method and it seemed straightforward. The flavour was salty and floury. It also thickened to virtually solid as it cooled. A quick ... MorePre-made gravy. As someone who doesn't really like pre-made gravy, this sample was interesting. A quick revisit to the ingredients list explained why? This product is basically just flour, salt and brown colouring!I think for flour and salt, this was expensive. Personally, I would continue to make my own gravy as it doesn't take much longer than preparing this gravy. If you already like the Gravox equivalent, then I would think this would be worth a try to compare, as they are similar ingredients but a lot cheaper.
Needs a bit more work on the flavour. All components were quite good aside from the actual taste but if you could inject some taste into it you would have a great gravy. It comes in a secure plastic packaging which was easy to open and kept the mix nice and fresh. The box can be recycled and has clear instructions on the various ways to make by microwave, cook top or in a baking dish. It was really easy to mix up - I used 2 tablespoons instead of the recommended 1 & 1/2 for the one cup of water as gravy mixes usually need a bit more to make them thicker. I added a small amount of water to mix a thick paste to use the back of the wooden spoon to get any lumps out before adding the rest of the water. It turned into a lovely looking smooth gravy which was easy to make on the stove. It just 'had' to be eaten as chips and gravy which was paired up with the Woolies Steakhouse Chips. The gravy really had very little taste and acted more as a 'wetting' agent on the chips. It really didn't taste much of anything and I compared it to some old Gravox powdered gravy which had more flavour. Salt had to be added to enhance the gravy which was disappointing as it already had a high sodium content. The price is cheaper than the other brands but the 'flavour factor' really needs to be addressed to improve the product. We did however manage to eat it on the chips but I think I'll be sticking to making homemade gravy. Definitely check out the Woolies Steakhouse Chips though as they are delicious....
A good budget gravy but lacks taste. This isn't a bad gravy. Easy to make and thickens up well to give a nice texture. Just lacks the full flavour of other branded gravy powders. I found that adding a bit of stock powder, or some herbs made it a lot better, It's a large pack and certainly cheaper so on a budget it is a good buy. I will continue to use up the box but I probably wouldn't buy it again.
Ok but lacking flavour. First and foremost, my family LOVES gravy but I’m of the ‘tinned powder, add hot water and stir’ type of gravy consumer, so I was a bit concerned about how to prepare this sample. I need not have worried! Easy to prepare, if not as easy as the instant tinned variety so as convenient. However, there are flaws with this gravy in comparison to my usual product. Found where the herbs and spices live, this gravy was easy to locate as it was in a box, as opposed to the HUGE array of tinned gravy products available. The box was very ‘economical’ looking, absolutely no frills with this product! Found where the herbs and spices live, this gravy was easy to locate as it was in a box, as opposed to the HUGE array of tinned gravy products available. The box was very ‘economical’ looking, absolutely no frills with this product! The cardboard box housed a plastic bag/pouch of powder which could only be opened using scissors - or at least I couldn’t open it any other way without risking powder flying everywhere. In addition, no tab/resealable option so an elastic band over the folded down opened edge was necessary. A bit clumsy and definitely not as user friendly as a tin. I decided to prepare the gravy on the stovetop, as per instructions - 1. 5 Tablespoons of gravy powder mixed over heat with 1 cup cold water. I had sautéed sliced mushrooms to add a bit of bulk first, before adding the powder and water then stirring. My husband had the gravy on top of steak, served with potatoes and steamed vegetables. Rich looking, glossy, smooth and lump free. The gravy certainly looked the part. But on tasting, it was lacking any sort of flavour (salt or otherwise). Quite disappointing. I had to crack a handful of black pepper into the mix to give it some taste. In addition, this product is NOT gluten free, as opposed to almost every instant tinned gravy powder available. As such, I can’t eat it, and can only serve it to my family, which is not ideal. I will use the rest of the packet, it’s a very generous size so will go a long way, but I may use it in a casserole instead of as a straight sauce. Alternatively, I may fry up some onion before adding the gravy mix, for a delicious flavour hit. Either way, this gravy is ok - very, very subtle flavour but nice consistency. Economical but not gluten free. In this instance, I won’t be purchasing this product again.
Pretty good if used as a flavour base. Woolies Traditional Gravy Mix may not taste the same as other, more expensive, gravy bases but it's good enough. I always add my own herbs & spices to any gravy mix so it was no different when we used this one. I have to admit, the consistency of this product has definitely improved over the years. When I've purchased it in the past, I would always have to add more mix to water in order to make it thick enough. I was pleasantly surprised to find this has changed and I was able to follow the instructions without amending the amounts. A pretty good flavour base if made to your own taste.
