EVH - 5150 Iconic Series 80W Head - Black
Experience the legendary EVH sound that defined rock history with the 5150 Iconic Series 80W Head, bringing Eddie Van Halen's signature tube tone within reach of every guitarist. This amplifier evolves from the celebrated EVH 5150III series, capturing that searing sound and growling gain that made Eddie's playing so distinctive throughout his groundbreaking career. Designed by respected amp engineer James Brown, this 80-watt powerhouse runs on four JJ 6L6 power tubes with two JJ ECC83S preamp tubes, providing serious firepower for modern players. The dual-channel design offers exceptional versatility with additional voicing options on each channel. The Green channel features an overdrive button that takes you from pristine clean tones to increased gain, whilst the Red channel's burn button adds that fiery crunch perfect for blistering lead work. Each channel maintains independent gain and volume controls for seamless level-matching when switching between clean and high-gain sounds. Professional features include a quick-attack noise gate on channel two that suppresses hiss while keeping staccato riffing articulate and crisp. The foot-switchable Boost control adds another 10dB of volume - ideal for cutting through the mix during solos. Shared EQ controls (Low, Mid, High), global resonance and presence knobs, plus global reverb give you complete tonal control. Additional features include a two-button footswitch, effects loop, dual parallel speaker outputs, and a ¼ power switch for cranking the amp without disturbing the neighbours. The head showcases sophisticated EVH styling with black textured vinyl covering, brushed aluminium front panel, and black steel grille featuring silver and black 5150 and EVH logo badges. Vintage-style chicken-head knobs, red LED jewel indicator, and moulded black plastic handle complete the professional appearance. A speaker-emulated DI XLR output with power amp mute provides authentic all-tube EVH tone for direct recording or PA use.

Dissapointed at this version.Clean channel is nice but not enough headroom.I felt amp was to tight sounding and middy.Nice features but what appears to be versatile is really just too much dirt.I returned mine 3 days after i bought it.Couldnt come close to previous 3 versions. At $899 it sounds like a good deal but many other amps in that price range sound much better. If you want over the top distortion its cool but very nasally sounding..

This thing has great feel and tone. Love the added reverb and the Clean channel is very dry. You can also make channel one a dirty channel as well by pushing a button. This thing has. a Burn button feels like a Drive pedal also had a noise gate and the !/4 power switch taking it down to 20 watts is tight. And yes I have a 5150IIIs as well and this amp has a different flavor but still rocks!!!

This is an 80s metal machine! Can it chug for high gain metal? Sure., but its not meant to! It achieves the brown sound on the overdrive channel but the real magic is on the green channel ., click the overdrive on there and you are instantly in Poison , Ratt ,Whitesnake , Skid Row land and its wonderful. Easy to dial in and the noise gate works great . The reverb is also phenomenal on here. This amp is a winner!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? This amp is fantastic! A variety of metal tones, hard rock tones, rock tones and even broken-up cleans for blues. The cleans are surprisingly good too, but I didn't buy this for the cleans :) Seriously an all-around solid amp and it's actually kind of affordable, imagine that!
Overall:Really pleased with the tones/feel this amp puts out. I'm playing blues, rock and hard rock. I don't play heavy modern and there are plenty of vids of it chugging. There was one clip I watched that showed it covering sonic ground that I liked. I bought it based on what I heard. My ears were not wrong. Dynamics of rolling off guitar volume/tone knobs is rewarding. Amp has a set of ballz. I've had an EVH 412 cab for years now. The Iconic sounds excellent through it.The Green OD channel is my fave.Only con I have is the noise gate. It has minimal gateing. Don't use reverb but it's ok.
Great way to get the 5150/6505 style on a budget. Amp tones are usable as is but, I really love hitting the front end with a BOSS SD1 as a boost. Adding 10 band eq into effects loop shapes the tone even more. Sounds great through Celestion V30 and GT75 2x12. 1/4 power switch helps for home volume levels, but I still use a reactive load attenuator.
James Brown being the designer for this amplifier took away any concerns on how it would perform. I've had mine for about a week and it's fantastic. The only thing I don't love is the clean channel. Not bad, but nothing special. Little flat sounding. Could be me even just needing to dial it in a little better. Everything else on it is fantastic! I love all the extra features; noise gate, 1/4 power setting, speaker emulator etc. It's just a great sounding amplifier for the price tag. Get one!
Being that I am a tone chaser, it's always been difficult for me to pick the right guitar amplifier. I hate this about myself that I am too picky when it comes to finding the perfect sound, but the 5150 Iconic changed my perspective. This amp delivers 100% and you'll be more than satisfied.
Dude !! This thing is extremely loud. I play through a 100 watt Marshall TSL100 and this 80 watt head blows it away as far as power goes..I couldn't get it past 4 without it hurting my ears seriously. I returned it because of that reason. It is a very large head too..pretty good sound though and easy to use. You want loud...get this head if not get the combo but you better have a good back !
WAY TOO LOUD for home use..this amp just screams loudness. You will not sound like Eddie using this amp. it is very big and did I say LOUD !? at full power I couldn't get it past 4 playing through my Marshall with VIN30s - 4x12 cabinet. for the money a good LOUD amp a bit sterile sounding playing clean..It went back though so you can decide yourself...oh it has tons of GAIN too...TONS !! almost too much really
