My wife is sensitive to mattresses due to her wide hips; so I thought buying the thickest mattress I could find would be the way to go so that she doesn't end up with bruises from touching the ground. Lots of positive reviews here on Snowys' about one bloke being heavier than his spouse but it was great, and not too much movement on the other person when you get up in the middle of the night. Well in my case I'm the lightweight and it wasn't as comfy as I had hoped. When you're by yourself on the mattress it's lovely and really comfy; but once both people are on it, it gets quite firm for the lighter person. We tried letting some more air out but then we had issues of nearly touching the ground in the middle. I suppose my lack of weight limits how much I bury into ... MoreMy wife is sensitive to mattresses due to her wide hips; so I thought buying the thickest mattress I could find would be the way to go so that she doesn't end up with bruises from touching the ground. I suppose my lack of weight limits how much I bury into the mattress, and so it just feels way too firm for me. There was also a bit more movement when rolling over etc than what I was lead to believe from the other reviews. Lastly, we sweated like crazy on top of this mattress at Fraser Island back in October, so I think you're supposed to put a sheet over it to soak up the sweat; which was counter-intuitive to me since the ambient temperature outside was quite hot and humid. I wished I had bought 2 singles, so that my wife and I could tune the amount of air in the mattress independently; and probably would pack a bit easier in the car with 2 small ones instead of one really big roll. I'm considering not using the carry bag for this and just fold it into a flat square/rectangle so I have more options to store it in the car. When rolled up it's nearly up to the sills of my ute tub when lying sideways!

We got these sleeping mats and they have changed our camping experience. My husband and I love our memory foam bed, so camping always felt like a let down in the morning, sore joints etc. Not any more! We have slept on these mats camping and wake up refreshed. I’ve slept on this mat when it gets hot and I need to sleep in the basement or when we are at a hotel and need an extra bed. I got the exped Widget pump and it blows up the mattress with no effort and very little time. We also got the REI platforms recently and we tried out the combo in our garage and it works perfectly - can’t wait to try it out! We have a big enough tent (Sierra Designs) for these 2 mattresses on platforms plus another room for our daughter. First, it's literally called MegaMat Max, so if you're surprised by the fact that it's very large, then that's pretty much on you.No one is marketing this thing as anything other than a large, luxury car camping mattress. I really don't think it's especially heavy or large for what it is. It fits in its carrying sack and the sack has a shoulder strap. It weighs 7 lbs., 10 ounces--not a deal breaker to me. Plus, I've never had to carry it more than about 30 feet from the car to the tent, and don't intend to. I'd definitely say that if you're envisioning walking a half mile to your campsite then pass on this entire class of air mattress. This is for driving up to your campsite, setting up your tent a few feet away, then throwing your awesome air mattress inside the ... MoreFirst, it's literally called MegaMat Max, so if you're surprised by the fact that it's very large, then that's pretty much on you.No one is marketing this thing as anything other than a large, luxury car camping mattress. I hate being at the beautiful out of the way location that I've anticipated getting away to for weeks or months, only to have a miserable night's sleep. So, as painful as it was, I paid the premium for this mattress and I'm so glad I did. I just came back from a trip, and I slept like I was sleeping on my mattress at home. It was fantastic to start the day refreshed. Definitely worth the money, IMO.Two things: 1. My first night on this was not that comfortable because I over inflated it. The second night I took some air out, and it was perfect. For me, deflating it enough so that my rear end almost hit the ground when I was sitting upright on it was the perfect fill. 2. The little included pump is ok, but I wish it came with an inflation sack. I also have a Therm-a-Rest MondoKing 3D, which I also love, and inflating that with the included sack is very fast and easy. Also, I didn't find unpacking/inflating/deflating/packing to be significantly more of a hassle than with my MondoKing. It inflated by itself really well, and it maybe took a couple of minutes longer to deflate and roll up than my MondoKing, but really, it was no big deal. Like all things car camping, you get your routine down and it all goes pretty quickly. At the end of the day (literally), I love this thing.

After years of car camping with our double high inflatable mattress wrecking havoc on our backs, we decided it was time to upgrade our sleeping situation, and my back is so glad we did. This mattress is AWESOME!!! It's basically a memory foam pad with air channels that allow you to increase the firmness. It has two one way valves which makes inflation and deflation easy. And regardless of being about four inches tall when fully inflated, it completely insolates you from the ground so you sleep soundly and wake up refreshed. I don't think I have ever slept this well while car camping. It's an investment in your comfort, and absolutely worth it. If I had to buy it again, I would do so without hesitation. A total game changer for car camping!!!
Kept loosing air every night in first use out of the box (yes, I followed the first time procedure). Contacted snowy who are extremely slow in responding that loosing air means leak and is not covered in warranty even if the leak is from snowys warehouse handling or transportation. After trying for two weeks, only possible leak I found is around the stitching in the seams which can only happen due to manufacturing fault in a new product. Snowys customer support's response is that if I send it to them, they will locate a leak (or make one), mark it and send it back to me - all at my cost. Snowys has sent me a faulty product and won't help because as soon as it arrives in your door, it's assumed that you created a hole in it. It's SOOOOOOOOO expensive but it really does pack down to about the size of a yoga bolster and is easy enough to do alone because of the one-way valve (just roll & unroll a few times). If you're camping alone with a 5 year old and it's starting to rain you can do a terrible job of rolling it and still fit it in the bag anyway because of the roll-down style of the bag. You know the Princess and the Pea fairytale? Well, I'm the Princess. Hands down. Sleep alludes me and comfort is essential. I slept for 4 nights in the bush on this with zero effort. Mind you, I did not share it. My son had his own single and I have no intention of sharing this with my significant other if he ever manages to come camping with us. I slept diagonally to get maximum length. I slept diagonally to get maximum length. It doesn't feel like a 'camping' mattress. It feels good enough to pass as a real bed. For $700+ it bloody well should too. I'm in love with the hand pump. Means that I can eliminate the 'self-inflation' waiting time and haver the thing fully inflated in 5 mins with a bit of a hand pump and a chat. No waiting and no germs air getting blown into the mattress. I should add that I nearly bought the Empire Monstamat Twin because I was able to try it in-store locally and it has great reviews. I'm glad I didn't. I took a gamble on the Exped and bought it without having seen or tried it, trusting & hoping that it would be significantly better. It is. I purchased on Boxing Day and delivery ETA given was 30/12. I left to go camping on 16th January and honestly, the shipping process stressed me out. It took ages, had no tracking scans and I was told the whole time by Snowys that it's always like that. It arrived the day before I went camping thankfully, but a LONG time after the estimated delivery date. Not Snowy's fault. Not Exped's fault. Just crappy Aramex.
I auditioned all the big pads in my living room for a couple days. I tried the REI Camp Dreamer, the Nemo Roamer, Exped Megamat 10, and this one, the 15 MAX.The Nemo Roamer crushes the Camp Dreamer (which had decent comfort but sub-par quality and no warranty/part support beyond the 1yr REI return policy. Shame on you REI) and the Exped Megamat 10 (nearly the same comfort as the Nemo but with inflate/deflate hasles). The Nemo is just as comfortable as any 4" pad and waaaay easier to inflate/deflate -- especially deflate. It's not has comfy has the Max 15 but it's so easy to live with.If I was always sleeping on hard but flat/level surfaces (or a Rooftop Tent or 15 years younger), the Nemo is the one I'd buy. It's not has comfy has the Max 15 but it's so easy to live with.If I was always sleeping on hard but flat/level surfaces (or a Rooftop Tent or 15 years younger), the Nemo is the one I'd buy. It's the only one of the bunch that I could inflate, and then deflate to factory "shipped" size. All the others "grew" after the first use, and though I could put them all in the included storage bags no problem, they were definitely larger (10-15%?) than how they left the store. This one -- the MegaMat Max 15 Duo -- is an especially large, beer-keg-sized pig.But wow, is the Max 15 comfortable. Like nearly as comfortable as my King-size latex bed at home. Assuming you have the space to carry such a giant pad, the extra inches of cush and added R-value does indeed provide real comfort when you're on lumpy ground (like roots or pasture that's been churned up, frozen, then thawed) night after night. Plus it's warm. That said, the Max 15 deflation is a major hassle. Hey Exped? Why on earth did you build such a giant pad and only put in a single, small deflate valve? Deflating this pad takes a good 5-10 minutes of sweat-inducing, sumo-like work. (for the record the Exped 10 is just as bad and only slightly faster as it's smaller. I can't actually remember how fast the REI pad was because after a quick examination, I decided it wasn't even worth considering). In contrast, the Nemo is fast, easy and leaves you with a nice compact pad, no sumo-wrestling required. So what's the difference? Without cutting them open, I'm going to say it's because Nemo uses three valves (one is convertible) allowing use of two valves during each the inflate/deflate process. Exped just gives you one valve each way and they seem very restrictive, possibly tuned more for self-inflation rather than expelling it quickly (with a better pump, self-inflation wouldn't matter as much). The Nemo valve system makes inflate/deflate so much faster, easier, and I think it allows the finished product to be more compact because you get ALL the air out. Sure, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to it (like I said, I'm not cutting this open), such as a foam density difference that keep the Max 15 from squishing back down to the compressed "factory size". And I'd be OK with that, if I didn't have to fight that one tiny valve during the deflation process.I could even live without an extra Nemo-style inflate valve -- we're usually in no hurry for inflation. We toss the deflated pad in the tent, open the valves, go make dinner/drink a bottle of wine, then come back and pump about 150 little hand-pumps worth of air into the bed to firm it up. (Yes, a better/bigger pump would be nice, too). But as I've said about 10 times now, the single-valve deflate process is tedious and the leftover bulk is discouraging (once you've seen how it comes from the factory -- where yes, they probably sucked the air out with a vacuum pump -- you want it that small *again*).In case you're wondering, the Max 15 deflation works like this -- you must open the valve, struggle to roll it up part way, lay on it, roll some more, lay on it, fold in half (lay on it), fold some more, lay on it (by now, you're sweaty and tired), and then finally roll it to completion, close the valve and strap it up, knowing your hard work still left you with more bulk than necessary. In contrast, the NEMO, with that magic extra valve, is a snap -- open both valves, lay on it once and fold it, close one valve, roll it up. Done. The finished product fits in the small factory stuff sack with room to spare.Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the comfort of this thing. As over-50 campers who often spend 5+ nights in a row in the tent, it's worth the price AND the bulk. But dang, I can't help but think (and you have a lot of time to think while wrestling this pad) that another $5, 50gram valve would have made this thing so much better.EXPED! If you're listening, your tiny valves are holding back the potential of your giant, comfy mattress. Add more and better. And while you're at it, upgrade the stupid little p3nis-shaped pump into one of air-bag pumps like Nemo and Sea to Summit use, too. Your customers are paying a lot for this product -- they deserve better.
I previously had the Monstamat which was pretty good until my cat put a hole in it. Decided to upgrade and it is well worth the extra. We're talking next level camping comfort. I've never wanted to sleep in camping before because it's not really comfortable but this is a game changer. The trade off is that it does take a bit of effort to deflate and roll back up. But you just lie on it with your body weight and roll and unroll a few times and you can pack it pretty tight. Not quite factory tight but close. And the storage bag is huge so no issues fitting it back in. I've also got a few compression straps I wrap around the bundle too which helps it stay compact. Highly recommend if you're looking for comfort and staying put a few days.
This is freakin' amazing and absolutely not to be mistaken for an ordinary mat for camping. This thing has heft. It has mass. It provides a lovely, cushiony surface that will protect your delicate self from the cold, hard, ground. I bought this to replace my garage-find Exped MegaMat (darn thing has a leak somewhere - see "garage find") thinking that as long as I was going to spend the money, I might as well go all out. And it's worth it.*Value as a sleeping mat - Five stars, definitely.*Ease of use setting up - Four and a half. It's a bit on the bulky side, but easy if you invest in Exped's Widget to inflate it. (Seriously, for as much as you're going to spend on this mat, just go ahead and buy the Widget, too.)*Ease of use deflating and putting away - Ah, ... MoreThis is freakin' amazing and absolutely not to be mistaken for an ordinary mat for camping. Exped really should have put a second deflation valve on it. You can sort of use the inflation valve to help with deflation, but only sort of. And it's definitely a bit of job to push out some air, fold, push more air out, role, push air out, roll, ... then jam the resulting bundle into the carry bag. Good exercise, though!*Carry bag - Four stars. Could be a bit bigger, but it's big enough and relatively easy to get the mat into.
I'm a tall heavy set lad who moves around a lot in his sleep. my wife and I purchased this to replace an older cheaper mat. We instantly noticed how much less she would be disturbed through the night with my moving about which has been an excellent improvement. The mat does take a while to self inflate so its not ideal for a quick set and sleep especially if its been in storage a while but if you get to camp and wind down for a while first its fantastic. We have used this in both our ARB skydome double swag and our Rv3 with great success. it packs down to be very compact compared to other mats and comes with some patches and a small inflator to make life easy. I have recommended this to many friends and I would happily spend the money to replace it with another if ... MoreI'm a tall heavy set lad who moves around a lot in his sleep. my wife and I purchased this to replace an older cheaper mat.
