Edit: since my review, I have actually decided to remove a star for another issue that I am having. The button to turn on the kettle is not very sensitive and sometimes takes 4-5 presses before the kettle turns on. Between this and the loading screen, it takes a lot longer to turn on than an average kettle that only requires a flick of a button. This combines with my previous cretique to get a 4/5: It reboils when you put it back on the base (and there is no option for this not to happen). I often use the entire kettle's worth for a pourover, and then instinctively put it back on the base, where it could start boiling empty if I'm not careful to turn it off each time.Original review:There are lot of electric pourover kettles out there that are similarily priced ... Coffee fanatics just know the shape from a mile away. And for good reason, there's really nothing wrong with the kettle except being a little expensive. I bought this after having the stove top version for a couple years, and it boils very fast. I love the version I got with a walnut handle and the Easter egg is awesome though I won't spoil it... I have 2 little gripes that don't make or break the kettle, but it would be nice if they were fixed. Number 1, the rubber feet aren't balanced and it rocks pretty badly. One of these days, I'll modify it, and I'm fine with doing that. The second, is that after you pour and go to replace the kettle in the base, it starts boiling again... And it's usually empty after the pour too. I wish it behaved differently, but once you get used to it,byou just put the kettle to the side instead, or turn off the base. For these reasons, it's actually a 4.5 star for me, but I've rounded up to 5.

I was honestly shocked at how fast the EKG heats up as well.Being a Fellow product, it's a given that this is both a stunning and ergonomic piece of equipment to have on your countertop. I went with the stone blue and maple color. It's truly gorgeous. The ergonomics are basically flawless. The other is that, on my kettle at least, the maple handle and knob are not close matches at all. The handle is a striking bright solid white maple and the lid knob is a very cool looking darker maple with much more prominent grain so the two wood pieces look slightly mismatched. Personally, this isn't something that bothers me at all though as I suppose that's to be expected with, and part of the charm, of a natural material like wood.Having said that, neither of these issues impact how much I love this kettle. Fantastic piece of coffee-making equipment!

I do wish the max fill line was indicated on the sides of the kettle instead vs at the back where the handle is, as I'm typically looking at the kettle from the side when I'm filling it, but not really a negative thing just have to get used to turning it a bit when I want to fill closer to the max. If you're not careful with your thumb you can touch the metal ring near the top of the handle and it can be hot, but it's easy enough to learn how to grip the handle. I wish there was a place to hook the lid when removed, as I don't want to put its bottom down on the counter when it has condensation on it. The counter could be dirty and it might pick up crumbs/sugar/etc that could fall back inside the kettle when replaced. But, flipping to over to set it down is also tricky especially when it is hot. I would certainly recommend this product to a friend.

The Fellow Stag EKG is an electric kettle designed for coffee drinkers who want to use a pour-over method. I myself am not a coffee drinker, but my partner is a bit of a coffee aficionado. I do tend to be the one that makes the coffee, and apparently I do a solid job of it. Prior to using the Stagg we used several coffee prep methods – traditional drip, French press, Keurig pods, cappuccino machine, and pour over. Prior to using the Stagg we used several coffee prep methods – traditional drip, French press, Keurig pods, cappuccino machine, and pour over. We had just started trying the pour-over style a few weeks before getting the Stagg because we were gifted a pour-over carafe.Prior to the Stagg I used a regular electric kettle with a spout at the top. My results were mixed because it was difficult to control the flow and the weight of the kettle made it even more difficult. My batches were hit and miss, so I was happy to change things up and try out the Stagg. My first impression with pulling the Stagg out of its box was that it was very well made. The matte black finish looked striking, and the overall design is aesthetically pleasing. The heater base is also well designed and simple. I set it up on my countertop, and I really liked the look – this is an appliance that doesn’t need to be hidden away when not in use because it looks sharp. The handle is sturdy and very well attached to the kettle body. The shape of the handle is also ergonomically designed to help you balance the kettle as you pour it. The lid for the kettle fits snugly into the opening, and doesn’t feel like it would pop out while pouring. The spout comes from the bottom of the kettle where the water is the hottest – this also means it starts pouring with a small amount of tipping, and it doesn’t slosh. The flow of the water coming out of the spout is very smooth, so you won’t be splashing water about as you pour.Heating up the water is a pretty easy task. I usually fill up the cup that will be used and dump that into the kettle, and then add a little extra for wastage. After that you pop the lid on and drop it onto the base. The base has 3 buttons to interact with – 2 can be found by reach to the back and then the main knob. When reach to the back the button slider on the left changes from Fahrenheit to Celsius, and the other sets the temperature hold. The main knob controls the set temp – range is from 104-212 °F. The help documents say the ideal temp setting for coffee is 195-205 °F. After bringing the water up to temp you press and hold the knob down for a few seconds to start a countdown timer from 3. Once the timer starts you begin your pour. The guide tells you to pour a certain amount based on how much coffee you added, and then wait 30 seconds for the coffee to bloom. From there it tells you to continue your pour over the next 2.5-3 minutes. You can vary this time based on how strong you want your coffee to come out. While you are doing this the digital readout screen is keeping time for you, so you can maintain a consistent pace.I found that the kettle could heat up a mostly full pot from 115 °F tap water to 200 °F in about 2ish minutes, so pretty quick to be honest. The kettle itself is easy to handle even though it has a sturdy weight to it. I did find myself getting a bit tired pouring a big multi-cup carafe, but only because I did it on my kitchen countertop, which made me have to raise the kettle higher to pour. When I moved the operation to my kitchen table I had a better height advantage and could maintain a much easier pour for a full 3-4 cup carafe. The coffee I was able to make for my GF came out great. I had been dialing in the pour times to get it to the strength she likes. She likes to add a splash of creamer and whipped cream, and I add a little chocolate sauce drizzle for her. I brewed the coffee at 200 °F, and that combined with the creamer made the drink the perfect temp to be able to sip it right away without it being scalding hot. This was a big plus for her because the temp control on the drip and Keurig can sometimes be a little hot, so she has to wait a few minutes for it to cool off. I also used the Stagg to heat up water to use in our French press, which has made that experience even better as well due to the ability to precisely control the temperature. Overall, when rating her coffee experience she ranks the pour over with the Stagg at the top. It gave the best/strongest/most consistent cup out of our array of coffee making gadgets. The drip still makes a great cup and is the most convenient when she is in a rush, so we won’t be getting rid of that anytime soon. The French press will get some more usage as well because of Stagg.Aside from brewing coffee I found the Stagg EKG to be useful brewing other drinks like hot chocolate and tea. Due to the speedy heat up times I could brew these drinks much quicker than with my old electric kettle or even stovetop. I also used it to make some ramen bowls and cup-o-noodles for a snack. These are obviously off label usages but the Stagg worked great for them. Now I don’t have a need really for my other kettle, which is what I had used to make these items.Overall, I really like the Fellow Stagg EKG. It is very stylishly designed which is important for an appliance you may wish to leave out on the counter. It also performs exceptionally well in my usage. It heats the water quickly and accurately. Its also easy to pour in a consistent manor. The base has a simple design that is fairly intuitive to use. It also has a the ability to serve multiple roles in my kitchen, so its not a single task appliance. I don’t really have a negative thing to say about the Stagg EKG.
Full disclosure...I'm more of a tea drinker than a coffee drinker, especially when it comes to home preparation. I'd been wanting to purchase an electric kettle for a while, but am very particular and was having a hard time finding one that I liked aesthetically and had all the features I wanted. I had eliminated the Stagg because I didn't care for any of the colors, so I'm glad they released the Sweet Cream color because this kettle has all the features I wanted! The kettle and base are very pleasing to look at! Currently I'm using it upstairs since my partner and I have COVID (serendipitous timing for this purchase, I know - who knew an electric kettle would come in handy during another summer heat wave) but I can't wait to add it to my beverage cart because it's ... It also feels thoughtfully designed and is a pleasure to use, although I find it slightly heavy with water.Feature wise, it checks all the boxes for me. Personally, I find the size to be perfect! No one is drinking more than a cup or tea at a time. I like not having to boil way more water than I'm going to reasonably use in time. The automatic hold feature is very nice although I haven't gotten much use out of it yet. The variable temp was crucial for use with tea, and I appreciate that I'm not limited to presets. It also has a memory function, which is nice, but it's also super quick and easy to set the temp. I like the stopwatch feature in theory, but I wish it had a timer option instead/in addition. It would also be nice if it could chirp or something when it reached temperature. I find the water heats up super quickly, as well - within a few minutes.Overall, it's a huge improvement in form factor, precision, and efficiency from my stovetop kettle and thermometer setup. I would say I wish I had purchased sooner but I'm really obsessed with the color so I'm glad I waited! Can definitely see myself purchasing another for the office this fall/winter.

A very nice pour-over kettle. Expensive? Yes. Performance-wise, my research told me it compares favorably, but doesn't significantly outpace, other products in its genre. It heats the water quickly, keeps it at temp and has a nice balance and pour rate. But why did I pay a premium for it? Well, the design had me back at "hello". The nuclear cooling tower shape is classically superb design, and the wooden components are gorgeous artifacts to wake up to in the morning. If I'm going to surround myself with gadgets that I use every day, they'd better be beautiful and this item is up there with the other ridiculously expensive coffee making gadgets I own. Perhaps I was pressing it for too long, I don't know for sure, but I now have no problems with it. A quick touch and it's on. Aside from that, I'm delighted with my new kettle. It has replaced my Faberge eggs (JK).
The Stagg EKG Pro kettle works really well for its intended use as a temperature controlled pour over kettle. It is expensive though, and not "necessary" for pour over, as there are other less expensive temperature controlled pour over/gooseneck kettles on the market. That said, it is aesthetically pleasing and you are definitely paying for that. On the aesthetics, one thing that oddly struck me was the inside of the kettle - when you first open the lid, the internal base is a mirrored stainless steel and you can perfectly see your reflection (it is oddly beautiful, even though no one else will see that). The slow and controlled pour from the spout is great for pour overs and allows you to really control where and how much water you pour. The only "caution" would be, if you intend to use this kettle for other generic kettle features (i.e. boiling water for non-pour over uses), the slow pour is annoyingly slow. Again, great for its intended use as a pour over kettle, but I wouldn't want it to be my only kettle. The Fellow app that works with the kettle is a little disappointing. I'm still not sure what the purpose of the app is - it will allow for future updates for the kettle, and connects the kettle to wifi, but doesn't do anything else. It would be nice if the app could also control the kettle, like turning it on, setting the temperature, etc. Though I don't think a kettle needs to have wifi and wireless control features, since there is an app and it is wifi enabled, it is odd that they don't have these features built in. Perhaps in a future update...I'd say that this kettle is a piece to add to a brew bar for aesthetic purposes. If you've already invested considerably in all of your other brew gear, this is a nice add on, though an expensive one. It might also be worth considering purchasing the original Stag EKG (not pro) to save some money if you don't need the additional features of altitude setting, schedule, etc. that come with the pro model - although I'm not sure what future updates/features may come in the future with wifi updates (what can you really "update" on a kettle?).My last comment, and this is more about the electrical wiring in my house than the kettle, is that it causes my lights to flicker as it comes up to temperature. It seems that some of my lights are on the same circuit as the outlet to which my kettle is plugged in, and as the kettle regulates its temperature to stay at a precise temperature, my lights start to flicker. Apparently this may be common if you have your wiring on the same circuit - it is not an issue with the kettle.
The fit and finish of the Fellow's Stagg EKG kettle is impeccable. It is stylish with a design that is above reproach. We have it sitting next to our Fellow Ode Gen2 Grinder.I use the Stagg EKG mainly for pour-over coffee. The weight in the kettle is balanced, making pouring water from the precision spout effortless. The pot heats up quickly. Filtered water from the refrigerator to boiling takes less than two minutes. One has accurate temperature control over the brewing water temperature down to a degree. That makes for some incredibly consistent tasting tea and coffee.I wish there were visual alerts to tell the user that water has reached the desired temperature. Almost nothing is more dangerous than a container of boiling liquid that no one knows is hot. ... MoreThe fit and finish of the Fellow's Stagg EKG kettle is impeccable. Almost nothing is more dangerous than a container of boiling liquid that no one knows is hot. Compound that fact with a "Hold" feature that will keep that boiling water at temperature for sixty(!) minutes, and it sounds to me like a recipe for disaster. Maybe have the LCD blink or throb when the kettle is at temperature? The Stagg EKG kettle is very pricey for what it does, and one can find many inexpensive products that do the same (or more) than the EKG.For that reason, it is challenging to recommend fully. However, it does do what it advertises without error and in style.
The best kettle I have ever owned. Hands down. The design is amazing and stylish, being able to set the temperature to what I want and have it displayed clearly is super useful and makes my brewing experience flow that much easier. My favorite part of all the time is being able to hold the temperature for an extended period of time…absolutely genius. Something I would have never imagined that I would need but find myself constantly thankful to have every morning when brewing my coffee. It specifically comes in handy since I hand grind all my beans. Will be looking into the Opus though, the hand grinding is getting exhausting and really only useful for on-the-go. If you’re searching for a game-changing kettle, look no further. The amount of money is well worth it, so ... MoreThe best kettle I have ever owned. Hands down.
