My first shredder was a Fellowes shredder that was great and lasted for years. When it broke, I was looking for a bargain and bought a Staples OmniTech shredder with a rebate that was an offer I couldn't refuse. Though the Staples shredder was marketed as a 14-sheet shredder, it would jam when feeding only 2 sheets through. Still it lasted for years, jamming frequently, over-heating, and under-performing. When some of the plastic pieces (separating the blades) broke, I was optimistic about replacing the Staples shredder with a Fellowes. My Fellowes Powershred 60Cs shredder is 10 times better than the Staples OmniTech. Feeding 10 sheets is no problem. It's a lot less noisy than the Staples, and I can see no flaws. I recently purchased a Fellowes Shredder at Target. My first one gave out with use so, I upgraded and bought the one with the removable compartment to empty. I was really pleased to receive it in the mail from Target until I opened the box and put it together. I have arthritis in both hands and wasn't expecting the top of the unit to be so heavy. As I tried to put the top part on the unit it slipped out of my hands and cracked the bottom of the unit where the bin slides into. If the package had told me how heavy it was going to be I would have had a neighbor help me given the arthritis in my hands. I just feel you need to be aware of this for the packaging of your paper shredder.

I haven’t used it yet, so I can’t talk about that. BUT I immediately noticed one very annoying feature. It’s fine that it’s not on wheels, but the fact that it has no “lip” or handles or any way to LIFT in order to MOVE it is a very serious design flaw that I think will only prove more problrmatic as the basket fills and becomes heavier. There’s a lip on the right side, but as soon as you use it, you realize it’s only attached to the top, so the top comes off! My last shredder (an Aurora) allowed me to lift and move it without this problem.

Lasted 2 years then the motor stopped working. This was for my home office to shred bills, papers, junk mail. I used it a few times a month, emptied the bin often and didn't run it until it overheated. Purchased 12/2020, 1/2023 the shredder began having difficulty shredding 1 piece of paper, it would over temp shutdown after 4-5 single sheets. Called Fellows because they give a 3 year warranty on the motor and I got a huge run around. Fellows customer support asked me a bunch of questions and whatever my answer, I was operating the machine wrong. I read the owner manual it says to oil with Fellowes shredder oil, I do that, but I do it wrong and not enough. CS claims I'm supposed to oil everytime the basket is half-full. I have the shredder plugged into a surge ... MoreLasted 2 years then the motor stopped working. This was for my home office to shred bills, papers, junk mail. I have the shredder plugged into a surge protector, that's wrong I'm supposed to have it plugged directly into the wall. I empty the can before it's full, she didn't believe me. She nit-picked everything I said and then said it was operator error, I'm just trying to educate you...None of what they said I was doing wrong is in the owner's manual I got with the machine. OK machine, terrible customer support, all of the questions they asked made sure to cover them, I don't think it would have mattered how I answered, it would have been wrong.
i needed a small shredder that does cross cut. this does fulfill that need. however i picked this one because it had some extra features that appealed to me such as able to shred credit cards and CDs. however when i received the unit, the user manual said that it cannot do these things. in fact the user manual indicated that the function of this unit is very limited compared with what i saw advertised on the website. i took a screenshot of what was advertised as well, to prove what i saw at the time of purchase, in case someone decides to change it later. what im wondering is if i received a shredder that was an older version of this model as the manufacturing date was over a year old. im a bit annoyed, but i decided to keep it. buyer beware if youre interested in ... Morei needed a small shredder that does cross cut. this does fulfill that need. however i picked this one because it had some extra features that appealed to me such as able to shred credit cards and CDs. however when i received the unit, the user manual said that it cannot do these things. in fact the user manual indicated that the function of this unit is very limited compared with what i saw advertised on the website. i took a screenshot of what was advertised as well, to prove what i saw at the time of purchase, in case someone decides to change it later. what im wondering is if i received a shredder that was an older version of this model as the manufacturing date was over a year old. im a bit annoyed, but i decided to keep it. buyer beware if youre interested in this shredder for those features, as the only thing it really can do is cut 6 sheets of paper at a time.
My old Fellowes paper shredder of 15 years suddenly jammed. I figured it was old and things don't always last forever. Ordering and delivery went smoothly. No complaints there. However, whereas my old shredder had a pull out bin to catch the paper, on this model you have to lift off the the top of the unit which houses the motor, etc.. It's heavy and awkward, and where do you put it in a home office situation to empty the bin. That's just an occasional problem. But the feed slot is is less than a half inch wide. Which makes it difficult to get a good rhythm going feeding papers in. Unless you unfold each sheet and stack it neatly. But then you have the time constraint of only having 6 minutes to shred before you risk the motor overheating. I recently purchased my Fellowes Power-shred 6C Cross-cut, personal home use shredder and have only utilized it on one occasion. What I can share is that the 6C Cross-cut did an admirable job eating through a pretty significant pile of personal documents. I ultimately discovered that it worked at its optimum when I shredded a maximum of two (2) pages. The company description states that it can comfortably handle up to six (6) pages, but whenever I attempted to enter 4, 5 or 6 pages the cutting mechanism became jammed up and would not function. Despite only being able to shred a couple docs at a time I am very pleased with the pulverized paper upon completion. Top security / No piecing a document back together.
I bought 60CS to replace a Fellowes PS 30 that I had and liked for 10 years. This new model is not quiet but not loud. Not sure how what thickness of paper they use to test it, but it can't really shred 10 sheets of 20lb paper. The slot is only a quarter inch wider than an 8.5" sheet of paper and is a very narrow slot with no angled guide to get the paper into the slot. These two things require two hands to get the paper perfectly lined up into the slot. If you're off, the paper will start crunching up on either side. Also the auto-on sensor is ony in the middle, so small receipts need to be placed in the middle of the slot. Also, the plastic window that let's you know the unit is full is so dark you can barely see in it. Poor design. Sad Face.
Shredders are always a compromise between speed and load. This one is no exception! It is much better than the cheaper ones that shred only a few pages. This one is designed for 8 pages, which it will handle well. I prefer using it for 4 pages, as it will speed up the process and avoids overheating too early. It this rate, I can sort and shred almost continually. Also note that like all other shredders, the cutter needs to be lubricated periodically. That will prevent jamming and early wear of the blades. Also, like other shredders, it ius a good practice to keep an eye on the bucket and stop shredding to empty it, ratheer than continuing, which will stop the shredder too early.I like this size as it will do most of my office chores and can handle my old tax files ... MoreShredders are always a compromise between speed and load. This one is no exception! Having a ton of old documents to get rid of I was looking for a shredder that would be simple and effective. I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I don't see this as an ongoing need since almost all my confidential information is now electronic. While it *will* shred up to 9 pages it's more comfortable with 4-5 at a time. After shredding it will run for a couple of seconds, so I always wait for it to finish before adding more pages. Every time I empty the basket I oil the shredders.* With this care I expect it to last for many years. * while I have the top off to empty it I clear the paper from the shredders and use an eye dropper to apply vegetabler oil to the shredders
