Right off the bat, I love this thing!I've had a lesser-branded cross-cut shredder for years. It did the job fine. Got bogged down a lot. It was loud. It also has a reverse button, so if it does get bogged down with too many pages at once, you can reverse it to unclog the gears, then put it back in forward and shred some more.I was able to shred bank statements, credit card applications, and even an unopened envelope of "You may qualify for this junk!!!" stuff. What I like is that, since most things that need to be scanned are mail pieces that are only a few pages, I can leave them folded (from the envelope) and put the papers in one side, then put more papers in the other, thus doubling the capacity to shred without having to worry about gumming up the system. It's not quiet, but it's quieter than my other one. I wouldn't shred stuff in a bedroom while a baby or husband is sleeping, but if the kids are in another room, it won't block them from hearing their cartoons.

We did a lot of looking and comparing online before we went anywhere to actually physically see it. This is a very formidable piece of machine. Very quiet and no worries of it JAMMING. The most important aspect is the end result of each sheet of paper run through. No one could ever piece together what was shredded. Our " Private-Trash" is secure..We gave this machine 5 stars on every category ..Except = style and design. in which we gave it a 2. Explanation-- plain and simple.. it is top heavy not enough base width to keep it from falling should it be bumped. Let me say it is WELL MADE !!!! We would recommend this machine. This is not your industrial-shred-50-pages-at-a-time shredder.I have one of those already. This shredder is a micro shredder. If you are shredding items that you absolutely don’t want to be read again this is the best option. It cuts everything into tiny pieces. It is also very quiet when it runs. It is perfect for shredding unwanted credit card offers and old financial records or ID docs.Because it shreds into such tiny particles its bin holds quite a lot. And the bin has a see through window so you can easily see when it needs to be emptied. It is dark and sleek in design and so is unobtrusive in your office. It is described as medium duty as it can shred 8 pages at a time for 5 minutes straight and then requires a 30 minute cool down.I like that there is ... MoreThis is not your industrial-shred-50-pages-at-a-time shredder.I have one of those already. I've found Fellowes shredders the best in overall quality and value. My older one lasted nearly 15 years and finally gave out. This time I specifically was looking for a smaller cross-cutter, finding it with this model. The basket is not as sturdy as I expected and could use more heft. It would be better if a thicker plastic was used. Compared to my older model there are many more safety features in this model. The addition of a red indicator light when the 5 minute time limit is up is another welcome feature.
This review is for the Fellowes 8MC Micro Cut ShredderSo far, I am very satisfied with this paper shredder. It is small and compact allowing you to fit it into small home or office spaces. It is fairly quiet, and shreds paper at a smooth and consistent rate. The microchip cut shreds it into extremely small pieces allowing for the upmost security in eliminating sensitive documents. I have even shredded a credit card in mine! The basket holds quite a bit of shredded paper bits, so you can shred consistently without having to dump your can very often. I usually try not to overwork my shredder and shred my papers in small batches. Anything can get overheated, and that is how you break something. It says that you can shred multiple papers at once, but I do mine one at a time. You could do 5 at a time or more if you wanted, that’s just me. Overall, I am completely satisfied with my purchase. For under $75 dollars, I feel like it is of great value. It’s easy to use, economical, and seems like it will last for many years to come. Fellowes is known for quality products, so you just cannot go wrong with this shredder!
I got this shredder to replace my old one that shreds in strips. This shredder has been working great so far. I got it so that I can shred all the junk mail, documents and paperwork with personal information that cannot be put in the trash. This shredder is much quieter than my old one and since it is a micro-cut shredder, it creates so much less bulk. You don't have to keep emptying the bin every five minutes. It is compact so that it can be placed anywhere without taking too much room. It is perfect for home and home office use. It has an added safety lock feature that disable the shredder. I generally unplug it after I am done shredding. I do recommend this shredder to anyone that is looking for one that is suitable for home use.
So far it works, like the smaller size for home use although this basket is supposed to be slightly larger than the previous one, it is actually slightly smaller. The biggest disappointment is that it's so loud. I had just returned another shredder for the same reason. I'm older, slightly disabled %26 don't drive but I 'm very dissolutioned about the benefits of ordering anything new online anymore (couldn't find original brand).
Great for weekly use in our home office. I shred junk mail (like CC offers) and other sensitive papers a couple times a week, this thing keeps up. Of course I wish for a bigger bin as I have to empty it every 10-14 days. but that’s probably more a commentary on how much we shred over anything else. The only nit - after the first empty I have had a problem where the “lock” setting has been flipped. “Locked” mode is open, and “unlocked” is locked (to let the shredder work). I like the safety setting, but I’ll need to reach out to see about a fix. Overall it’s still a good machine, and would gladly buy again (or take a warranty fix if offered).
Received it yesterday and I have to say it’s a very good shredder. This is my first Fellowes Powershred and so far everything works perfectly. It’s very compact, easy to use right out of the box, and fits nicely under my desk. Its size will be perfect for my home office. I’ve shredded up to a total of 8 sheets of paper and it worked fine if a bit slow. It’s also a bit loud if you’re shredding more than that or a heavier bond of paper but for my use which is light it suits my purpose. I also shredded credit cards and old gift cards with no issues at all. It shreds a good deal of paper before shutting down to cool off. Wait time after it cools off was for me at least 15-20 minutes. It’s not ideal but not a product killer either. It’s perfect for small jobs and ... MoreReceived it yesterday and I have to say it’s a very good shredder. It’s perfect for small jobs and shredding bills and mailings but if you’re shredding constantly or an extreme amount of paper, you should probably invest in a bigger, better shredder. Otherwise, I can without a doubt recommend this shredder.
Received this with a home delivery. Must have been set aside in the back room as a broken return item. Plug in was broken and sparked upon plugging it in, almost starting a fire!! Walmart really lost my confidence on this one. Had to return to the store for refund, but no models of this on the floor which I thought was very strange. not even a tag on the shelf. Wow. Bamboozled.
