(601 reviews)

Dreadnought Body The dreadnought is arguably the most popular acoustic guitar shape in the world, and for good reason. Dreadnoughts are known for being one of the louder body shapes thanks to its big sound and excellent projection and this model has a cutaway which makes it easier to reach those upper frets. With a booming bass and lower-midrange response, you’re sure to be heard with a dreadnought. This shape is responsive to both strumming and fingerpicking so it’ll handle whatever style you throw at it. This model has a laminate mahogany back and sides which provides some tonal warmth and punch, and has a solid spruce top for a balanced sound. Easy-To-Play Neck The CD-60SCE has Fender’s ‘Easy-to-Play’ neck which features rolled fingerboard edges. Players of all skill-levels will enjoy this neck profile but especially beginners and those unfamiliar with acoustic guitars as the neck feels immediately comfortable in the hand so you can spend more time focussing on your playing. Built-In Electronics For playing gigs or for easy recording, the CD-60SCE comes with built-in Fishman electronics. The preamp features an onboard tuner, as well as volume, bass, and treble controls for shaping your tone. With the built-in electronics in the CD-60SCE, you can take it straight out the box and jump right into performing live or recording.

The Fender CD-60 sce is a quality guitar for the money. Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate player the guitar seems to be built to last. The solid spruce top and the internal build of the guitar creates a good sound that allows the treble tones to ring out, as well as keep the mellow low tones of a Fender guitar. The narrow neck, and thin profile allows for somebody with smaller hands to play it a little easier. As any new guitar especially at this price point, you can make some adjustments to help with the action and minor fret BuZz, but overall out of the packaging the guitar comes ready to play and sounds very good. Fishman and Fender partnering up in the pickup make a quality sound out of the PA. The cutaway is beautiful, and it may be a laminated top but it still sounds pristine with very nice highs. This is a great acoustic guitar if you need that sound to really punch through in a band that might overwhelm an acoustic. Sounds great by itself too.I also read reviews that said the frets are cheap and wear quickly, but I haven't experienced this. It comes with a spare bridge, a few bridge pins, an alan wrench, and keys for the case locks. I also read about the action being too high, but the truss rod is easy to access from the ovation hole at the base of the neck. My action was just fine. Finally, the fact that it comes with a hardshell case is a fantastic deal. The case is nice and snug fitting. It has a Fender logo on it which I thought would be metal and enamel filling or something like that but it's actually wooden. Nice touch. Overall this is a great steel 6 string with some great small touches and bonuses- cutaway, all mahogany, abalone rosette, cool arch top which you don't often see on Fenders, Fishman tuner/pre-amp, nice case, free guitar stand, all with the Fender name. How is this not an Epiphone at that price?

I decided to get back into playing after 50 years, went out and bought a TeleCaster MIM, Ibanez RG421. Thing is I keep playing the CD60-SCE, The neck is comfortable the clean tones and sounds it makes are what I want to hear. It don't hurt that it is a beautiful guitar. Plugged into a 40 Watt RMS Acoustic amp, with a little Chorus, awesome. Its my favorite and I play it till my fingers hurt, love it. No problems in 5 months, I did put XL strings on it, I asked my guitar guy to set it up, he said he could raise the action if I wanted but he thought it was perfect. zZounds delivered it in two days.

Can't seem to let it go
21 May 2023

I've had this guitar about 2 years now. I have a number of other guitars including some high end and occasionally think I should get rid of the Fender. The plan goes awry when I decide to pick on it a minute between the back room and front door. Actually it is more a case of it deciding. The neck just grabs me - it's SO easy to play. The tone is respectable and if it weren't for the acoustic volume being so constrained I'd play it more often. The fret ends on mine are just slightly sharp but nothing that's going to affect play for most. For a beginner/learner, as long as you're not trying to play along with someone else, or in a noisy environment, it's a great choice. Otherwise the volume will be a hindrance.

It's a Fender!! Plays extremely well and looks great too.
20 March 2022

I use it for recording and playing. The sound is great. The mahogany gives it a warm tone, yet full of projection. The guitar is built very well and is easy to play. It has a great feel, and it is a joy to play. I recommend buying this guitar! It has all the features of a fine guitar, it even has a tuner built in. I am very happy with this guitar!

Poor quality!
4 December 2022

Poor quality control! Neck is a mess with all of the fret ends protruding and sharp. One fret is noticeably higher causing all kinds of issues. Inside edge of the sound hole is poorly finished and some of the ribs look rough, like they weren't sanded smooth. This one's going back!

Review of Fender CD-60SCE Dreadnought Electro-Acoustic Cutaway Guitar in Black
3 April 2022

After much deliberating, got this as a beginner/intermediate guitar for 14 year old who is having guitar lessons. Glad we got the black as he just loves it so it wants to play it. Has nice low action. Brilliant guitar, sounds loud and rather wonderful.

The exact combination of tone & versatiliy I was seeking

I started learning electric guitar about 3 years ago, and have improved a lot with persistent practice. When I decided it was time to buy an acoustic, all the experienced players I talked to said 'get a Yamaha.' So, I did my research, did some play tests, and ended up with a Yamaha FG830. Now, this was a fantastic sounding guitar, just beautiful... but... a little ringy, and boomy on the lower end for me. I guess this is something the really experienced players like? Not sure. When I picked up this Fender cutaway, Whoa! Now that's what I'm talk'in about! I loved it so much... very rich, full tone, which can be mellow when it needs to be. Just the right amount of sustain. I like the neck better than the Yamaha, and the action was super easy to set with just a quarter turn of the truss rod. I think I'm hooked on this guitar. If something were to happen to it, I'd get another -- same model, same color. The instrument is flawless, very solid construction. I am so, so impressed! If you've been looking at this model, go get one! It's perfect.

Too much guitar at this price
23 June 2022

This is easily an intermediate guitar at an entry level price point. I’ve owned many acoustic guitars including Martin Taylor and Gibson acoustics. I’m not saying this is one of those names, but at this price point your gonna have a hard time beating this one. The Fishman electronics sound fantastic plugged in. It’s has an understated yet attractive design, the tuner is spot on, and the neck is easily approachable. It’s one of those “do it all” guitars that you don’t have to worry about taking out of the house, and it won’t let you down. If it had a different name on the headstock you’d be paying 5-600 dollars for it. Lots of value in this one, one of the best guitars I’ve owned and literally my favorite one to play.

ive had three of this guitar model and all of them have gone bad. two of them were replaced because the repairs that were needed cost more than the guitar is worth. on the first one, the high e string stopped changing notes at around the 7th fret and it was so raspy that it was impossible to get a good sound out of it. the technician took one look at the neck and he immediately told me he's gonna just give me a new one because it was too far gone and i had the guitar for only a few months. the second one got extremely raspy and the internal electronics for the amp stopped working. over half of the frets on the neck were bad. the technician called me to tell me that it was worse then he thought and that he was gonna have fender replace the guitar. i got my third one ... Moreive had three of this guitar model and all of them have gone bad. two of them were replaced because the repairs that were needed cost more than the guitar is worth. on the first one, the high e string stopped changing notes at around the 7th fret and it was so raspy that it was impossible to get a good sound out of it. the technician took one look at the neck and he immediately told me he's gonna just give me a new one because it was too far gone and i had the guitar for only a few months. the second one got extremely raspy and the internal electronics for the amp stopped working. over half of the frets on the neck were bad. the technician called me to tell me that it was worse then he thought and that he was gonna have fender replace the guitar. i got my third one early last year and it was in the shop for repair less than a month later. i just got my guitar back a month ago from another repair and it already needs to go in for repairs again because its raspy on certain frets. ive had a horrible experience with this guitar. dont buy it. there are better options out there.
