Fisher & Paykel 8kg Series 3 Front Load Washing Machine wh8060j3

Friends and family have new models of various major brand washers and i found them to be overly complicated in wash selection and operation. Model WH8060J - I purchased this washer because the wash choices on the selection dial are straight forward and simple. There are also easy to follow options that allow some adjustments to the wash choices. This washer is much quieter than my 13 years old (good brand that finally died) machine which used the motor and belt drive system. I have 2 complaints, both are minor: # 1 - the machines believes that 'cold water' should be at 20 degrees and uses the heater to bring water up to this temperature. My model cannot stop this use of the heater. This unnecessary use of the heater must have an impact on the energy rating. My model cannot stop this use of the heater. This unnecessary use of the heater must have an impact on the energy rating. I was aware of this when i bought it and knew i have to put up with it as a price to pay for the other benefits of the washer. # 2 - The Start/Pause button is extremely sensitive. The washer is on the floor which places the button at waist height. Just brushing against the washer will activate the button. This has occurred so frequently that i now have to use the Keylock button on every wash.

I do like the 30 minute cycle for a very small load, and don't really mind that it's likely to take 40 minutes.But ... 3 stars for a disappointing washing machine with such a small drum that I can't see how it could possibly hold 8kg dry weight. I'm washing moderate sized loads, not overloading it. And after each load, there's a sludgy residue left on the bottom of the glass surface of the door. So I think over time I'll find that the rinse cycle doesn't completely remove the washing (liquid) detergent or the dirt that's been loosened from the clothes. The drum clean cycle also leaves a residue. A empty rinse cycle after a load doesn't remove the residue .... I expected better from the maker, but sadly this F&P product doesn't live up to the advertising claim. The add a rinse option doesn't fix the problem, but adds a very long time to the wash cycle, maybe 30 minutes or more (longer for towels), than the time on the readout.

I bought this to replace our 12 year old F&P front loader that was still running well but the pump was starting to make a noise. It cost less than the old one 12 years ago & all others were too deep to fit in the space and with a myriad of features we never use. It is super quiet. All you hear are the clothes splashing around. You can customise the programs to suit your own preferences which means that those with more programs are largely only tweaks of the programs available with this model & you can change yours if you want. There is now only a cold water connection which makes it simpler as it heats its own water precisely. The old one was a 7kg load & so the extra 1 kg allows a large wash load. Great for a 4 person household. Great for a 4 person household. The daily wash program has been very well thought out. It starts quite slowly and as the soil is loosened speeds up to suit. It always seems to sort out the load with the spin preparation process and there is no vibration as the load is balanced well. All in all an excellent machine for a great price.
