I bet all the people that rate this mower poorly do not know how to use it, and what it is meant to do.This, like all reel mowers is far superior for mowing lawns than any rotary mower. It cuts like a scissors not smash leaves with blunt force so it is a cleaner cut and is beneficial for lawn health. If you do not like mowing your lawn, and are ready to mow frequently and not let it over grow, this is not for you. This is not a ‘cheap’ mower for those that don’t like mowing. You also need to have a fairly level lawn to work properly.I bought mine second hand for $20 from a bloke that neglected it and didn’t know how to use so frustrated him. I cleaned it, and restored it a bit, and works like a charm. At $165, it is just right. Cheaper ones are garbage. There are more expensive ones like the Masport that are better built but cost twice as much. After each use clean it and dry it, and spray some WD40 to keep it from rusting. You can also sharpen it fairly easily by buying a tub of backlapping grinding paste and get the blades to just make contact with the knife and turn the wheel backwards. You have to Google it because one wheel needs to be removed first.

I first bought this mower 4 months ago - it fell to bits very quickly due to a part breaking in the roller/height-setting assembly. After much stalling the replacement part from Husqvana never arrived so I returned the mower for replacement. The replacement failed due to breakage of the same part during first use. I have compared the failing part to one from my 20 year old model and the new one is clearly much flimsier. It is also clear that the excess stress placed on the part by the incorrect bend in the metal tubing ensures it will break quickly.

While curious about using this type of mower, I had passed over the cheaper options like Ozito. Wanting to trial without spending $$$’s but thinking I’d be disappointed. Then I found a YouTube video of a guy talking about upgrading from his Ozito to this unit. Convinced, I made the purchase. It has been great for the total of 5 mows so far, can’t see why that won’t continue. Happy to mulch back in (at least over winter). 1 star off for a couple of cheap design decisions like the plastic roller on the back that is already getting dinged up. Still an excellent price for what you get.

We've got a small patch of Buffalo and I didn't want to have to rely on fuel or electricity to cut it. This does well once you get into the motion. This kids find it a bit difficult but not impossible. Catches from time to time, but it's easy to shake the stick or whatever's blocking it. Requires fortnightly mowing to keep the lawn tidy.
Lightweight, easy to maneuver mower.Initially it was quite noisy from a knocking type sound. I discovered that the fixed blade at the end had a deformation. A simple fix at the time during Covid knockdown was the grind it down which had no Ill effect on performance.Otherwise very happy with it and my 10 year old son loves to use it.
Brought this guy today and how overlooked these kind of mowers are! yes you have to push it and yeah it doesn't get the stubborn weeds on the first go over but with alil effort its a beautiful turn out, cuts nicely and is adjustable! be careful of any sticks and plastics that maybe in the garden from kids tho definitely an amazingly efficient alternative to having to charge batteries or get petrol. I love it
Been using mine for a couple of years now, so has worked out a lot cheaper than a petrol mower / paying someone over that time. The good:Cuts well providing you take the time to learn how to set the blades properly and adjust regularly.Light and easy to use on slopes,Cheaper than many alternativesQuietGood for you and the environmentThe bad:Height adjust broke, had to fix with a cable tiePlastic drive gears are starting to wearCan't cut very close to edges due to wheels outside blades (common to most reel mowers)
This mower lasted about the warranty period of 2 years, and during that time it was ok. But then the plastic gears were worn to an extent where one wheel would not contribute to rotating the blades any longer. And a short while later, one of the handle tubes cracked and broke in the middle, where they are bolted together.Overall, it is a modern, lightweight, and flimsy design - not made to last. Seeing this is the supposedly highest-end (and certainly highest-priced) hand mower in the shop, this is disappointing.
After having this mower in my shed for a few years I finally got it out while my mother had permanently borrowed my 18v pxc ozito mower. It actually cuts wider, and better, and just as quiet once the fixed blade height is adjusted correctly. I'm really enjoying the aesthetic appeal of this reel mower. It's light, quick and convenient and particularly good at maintaining the lawn during spring.
This is the second one of these we have bought, our backyard has a few small terrace of lawn up a steep hill so we want a light mower to carry up and down the hill. Hand mowers fit this and since the total area of grass mowed isn't that large they are a good job. The first one cut well and was used for a few years but the design of the handle puts a lot of strain on the handle at the points where the tube has been flattened to join the parts together (especially on our somewhat lumpy lawn). This resulted in the handle breaking after a couple of years. Since Flymo don't sell replacement parts we got the handle welded back together and continued to use it until another area failed. We then tried a Morrison hand mower which lasted about a year before the plastic gears ... MoreThis is the second one of these we have bought, our backyard has a few small terrace of lawn up a steep hill so we want a light mower to carry up and down the hill. We then tried a Morrison hand mower which lasted about a year before the plastic gears in the wheels started wearing out so we have gone back to Flymo. Wish they had a better handle design or at least the ability to buy replacement parts since the cutting head was still working fine when we finally gave up on the handle.
