Great quality monitors especially for the price. Great choice if you don't want to spend too much but still have a quality monitor.

sounds are more defined more balanced but still delivers sweet low end i wish i would of got focals before!!!!

Excellent monitors for the money

I have been using a pair of Tannoy Reveal monitors in my home studio for the last 20+ years, but to get decent frequency response I needed to use a 15 band graphic EQ and a Rane frequency analyzer... comes with a reference mic and a pink noise generator -- you try to adjust the EQ while watching the LEDs bounce up and down and adjust each band until the frequency response looks flat. I always had to tweak the EQ setting (maybe defeating the purpose) to make them sound more natural. Then I decided to upgrade my monitors. I went to the B&H store in NYC and listened to half a dozen, including Genelec, Yamaha, and others. I finally bought the Focal Alpha 65 EVO, which sounded the richest and yet were half the price of the Genelec 5. I finally bought the Focal Alpha 65 EVO, which sounded the richest and yet were half the price of the Genelec 5. Bringing them home, they sounded much better with no EQ than the Reveals did with no EQ, but not as good as the EQ'd Reveals. I wanted to make sure I wasn't coloring the sound. So I bought the Sonarworks Reference 4 item. Well, it worked great. It comes with a very sturdy-looking reference mic. It was fairly easy to set up, it acquired sound points from about 36 spots in my listening area, and it took me about an hour to create a detailed frequency response curve. It has an application (and a plug in) that automatically corrects your computer's monitor sound output to flatten the speaker response. It seems to work great! The Focal monitors were fairly flat except for a peak at around 150 Hz, which the Sonarworks flattened, without having to resort to a graphic EQ. Unfortunately there's quite a bit of falloff below 100 Hz that I can measured, so beware... you will need a subwoofer with these monitors if you want to mix music. However, for general audio projects they would be a great addition to any studio.

I have the focal chorus floor standing speakers which are a pristine choice to listen to music at entry audiophile level. In my home studio I have used and will cont to use my more expensive Kirk vxt 8. note these are not the lower end rock it's. I like the power, clarity, and detail in the KRK better and for a bit more I rec them for a better stereo mixing studio monitor. Even after years of use these monitors are my go too and I know many pro,s rely on these and even earlier vxt. Now I was so impressed with the focal home speakers I wanted a det of speakers to hear music in a room where I work. These are wonderful for that. They are self amped. Sound great and are audiophile. Maybe get them for that. Overall:I was between the A7Xs I heard in person and these which I never heard before. I took a chance and couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase. I love them. So versatile and super duper detailed. From the moment I plugged them in - smooth, consistent, rich sound. Considerably lightweight yet feels solid. Great balance of the frequencies and I can hear everything vividly. They get pretty loud too. The tweeter design makes imaging 3D-like and so smooth that it's not fatiguing one bit. I can't wait to start mixing in these because I can already hear what I been missing coming from KRK Rokits. Great for pros or those learning the craft. Buy them if you are considering (and have the space). At this price range, nothing else I've ever used even come close to these bad boys! Some people are skeptical about buying 5 in monitors, but let me tell you, these things have amazing bass response for 5s!!! The overall response is very clean and flat, which is exactly what I was looking for in monitors for my home studio. The aluminum dome tweeters are very sleek looking, and result in a very clear top-end that'll reveal any frequency build-up in your mixes. The dust-cap of the woofer is very hard and durable, which is nice because you don't have to worry about clients or anyone pushing them in -.-Saved the best quality for last: REFERENCING! Every single one of the mixes I've done on these things (around 25-30 since I got them) has translated amazingly across all mediums. This saves time & money on revisions for clients that listen to the mixes on their early gen iphone and terrible car speakers.BUY THESE!

After about a 20-hour break-in the sound transforms into a sound quality that rivals the very high-end professional models. Focal is definitely driving their best technology down into the models obtainable by mere mortals. The near-field tuning is the best I've heard at any price such that the voice or instrument heard from the sweet spot is a living presence that materializes in the middle of your head. A truly wonderful experience. It has a very accurate and detailed sound, including a surprising amount of bass and distortion-free treble. Love these monitors. Great balanced sound and finally I can hear the bass.Might be too much for a small studio but if you have the room I highly recommend them. Best value monitors by far in this price range

Superior sound, huge power

I got these reluctantly after reading many reviews on what speakers to use with my new Kawai eS-8 piano, i say reluctantly, as i'm always looking for a bargain and certainly didn't want to spend hundreds of pounds on speakers, after spending over a grand on replacing my previous kawai cn-43 which had been very problematic for quite some time, anyway, with that said, these speakers have really opened up a whole new world with regard to quality sound and power, although they are 50 watts each, my previous kawai was that also internally, but nothing like these, i only need the volume at 2, although i'll play it at 5 if i like, let the neighbors know i'm in:) Pure quality and huge power/volume if needed. I read about them on a piano forum, where they were said to be superior to the other common brands, and they certainly are. When searching for them i also noticed 65 watt versions, although, now that i have these i can't imagine anyone needing more power than these, the sound is huge and i can't imagine ever using volume above 5 or 6. My Kawai ES-8 has built in speakers, but at only 15 watts, i couldn't live with that, and didn't think the true piano voices could even be properly experienced with those speakers. But now, it really is a whole new world, Quality! i'm delighted.
