After hearing the Focal Clear MGs, I wanted to buy a pair of close back headphones to use in situations where an open back was not appropriate (in public spaces, in bed so as not to disturb my wife with sound bleeding etc.). I had been advised these would not be on par with the Clear MGs I had purchased, for definition. Yes, they are a little bit less transparent providing less vocal reverb and trailing edges etc, but what they can do that the Clear MGs cannot is have lower frequency presence at lower volumes. I inherited my love for hifi and music from my father, who has since gone deaf, which he describes as a fate worse than death, well bull describes I mean yells as he has no idea how loud he’s talking. So now I have the choice between both the Clear and Radiance, I find myself reaching for the Radiance, as at lower volumes - safe for preserving your hearing - you get 95% of the detail, but wow that punch and low end extension is awesome. Focal headphones are the bees knees.

This is such a wonderful headphone, detailed yet forgiving. I find these as enjoyable as my more expensive planars. The the "out of the box" tuning is as good as anything I have heard and there is no need for a bass shelf, I just drop 2k a touch and they are perfect to my ears. The Radiance is a bit clampy out of the box, but once the pads soften up they are pure bliss.Bass: great extension, not quite like a Planar, but present. The mid-Bass punch is natural, organic, and elevated, making these a fun listening experience. The sub bass is also nicely textured, but slightly rounded off.The mids are the star of the show, they are silky smooth yet tactile. They sit back a bit and give a nice sense of depth. Tracks with Synths can sound huge, and vocals sit back just a tad in the mix further enhancing the sense of space.Treble is in your face, but relaxed, they will never get sharp or abrasive on you, but the detail is there. High hats sound great and push forward out of the mIx, but vocals never get shouty in the 6-8k region. Micro details like room reflections and decay are also fantastic and add to the musicality. There is a complete absence of glare or any sharpness as they are a tad recessed after 5k, but elevate again in the upper trebel. Overall I find this a very pleasing tuning. This is a great all-arounder and end game for most. I find myself reaching for the Radiance as often as my He-1000, They also sound great on a variety of amps, My K9 pro seems to drive them best, and I have heard other reviews confirming they do well on less expensive linear amps without sounding analytical, so no need to break the bank here. They are just an overall musical, detailed, and forgiving headphone.I could not recommend these enough, especially at their final sale price at headphones.com.

These are a wonderful pair of headphones with excellent build quality. I can't get enough of the pads - absolutely smooth and stunning while wearing them, one of the best at isolating noise. The design and appearance are outright remarkable as well. The caveats and why it does not get 5 stars from me: the radiance did not wow me for a first impression while listening (it certainly did at first look). While the sound separation and clarity are truly world class for this type of headphone, these are noticeably lacking at the bass end. I am not a bass head - as reference, I found the Bathys to be good out the box, and great with just a slight bump in the bass EQ through the Naim app. With similar adjustments through my FIIO EQ, I still need to constantly fine-tune the ... MoreThese are a wonderful pair of headphones with excellent build quality. The band is significantly wider than other pairs I've seen so do distribute the weight more. But, in my opinion, still not padded enough. After maybe 35-45 mins of use, I need to move them a bit on my head to avoid discomfort. All in all, a visual master piece with incredible audio - though with room for improvement.

Amazing headphones

If you've ever wanted insanely good closed back headphones that sound like good car speakers but clamped to your head, look no further. They sound super clean and detailed. Compared to a Clear MG they are slightly less clear and detailed, slightly more narrow soundstage, but have a lot more sub bass and a little heavier on the bass, making Hip-Hop and EDM music just insanely good. Mixing music is also really nice on these, and gaming is also exceptionally good for a closed back.My only gripe is that they do clip with heavy sub bass and when the volume is loud, more so than like a Sundara or HD58X, but it's kind of an indicator that it's too loud for what you should be listening to.An Asgard 3 and Bifrost 2/64 is a great pairing with them. Fast, soundstage unbelievable for a closed back. Goes with all types of music, such a natural clean sound. Bass is just perfect for me. Tight, no what I call vibration decay. They don’t even need …much if any equalisation. Vocals is what makes them shine but. Especially female. Pretty much the best I’ve heard through headphones. It’ to me is the best closed headphone you can buy for that kind of money. It’s a good feeling when you realise you have found the one for you in audio. Audio is like women, no such thing as the best looking in the world. It’s what’s the best to you. And just I've found my new wife closed back headphone. Thanks addicted to audio for making it so.
