(64 reviews)

The FUJINON GF45mm F2.8 R WR Lens is a highly versatile wide angle lens with a focal length equivalent to 36mm (on a 35mm format) and maximum F2.8 aperture. Thanks to its compact and lightweight design (weighing only 490g), this lens is ideal for street and documentary photography. Like the other GF Lenses, the GF45mm F2.8 R WR is equipped with resolving power to support further enhancement in future. Thanks to the Nano GI coating, this lens offers clear depiction performance with reduced ghosting and flare. Weather and dust resistant, the lens can be used in temperatures as low as -10°C. The GF45mm F2.8 R WR lens combines high performance with high reliability, making it an ideal photography tool for professional photographers. Because it’s compact, lightweight and portable, it’s also an optimal lens for snapshots and documentary photography, enabling photographers to shoot natural photos without intimidating their shooting subjects. High resolving power With a construction of 8 groups and 11 elements, using one aspherical lens and two ED lenses, the GF 45mm F2.8 R WR delivers high image quality and reduces aberrations. By adopting an inner focus system which moves the six lenses, the lens is able to deliver high quality images while reducing fluctuations of the aberrations caused by the change of shooting distance. The lens is even able to reduce ghosting and flare, caused by incident light from diagonal angles, and produce clear images, thanks to the use of Nano GI coating.

In Fuji?s normal and wide GF lenses, I?ve used the GF 50, 30, and 32-64. None of those lenses have the same magic as this one. I love the GF 50 for how inconspicuous it makes the GFX system. The GF 30 is incredibly lightweight and fun to shoot with. The 32-64 has the focal length 35, which I wish was a Fuji prime. But each of those lenses has some slight weaknesses. The GF 45 has none. It?s microconstrast, corner to corner sharpness, and flare/backlight handling is the best of the bunch.

Like all other GFX lenses, the image quality is phenomenal. The cons IMO is size and slowish autofocus, but that's the trade off for going medium format. The fact that I can take my 50R to the streets around my neck and capture super sharp and detailed images is amazing. If image quality is a priority, then that's the best 35 I've ever had. I'm a big Fuji fanboy, I really like their products and what they have done for sensible artists and photographers.

NEW LOOK NIFTY FIFTY
11 May 2017

I'm a photography enthusiast that started in 2009 with Nikon cropped 35mm format and then evolved to a Nikon FF sensor. When the X-Pro2 arrived I was ready for the luxury of less weight that mirrorless provide and those incredible Fuji Film stock jpegs ensured that I never looked back. And now with the GFX's arrival suddenly Medium Format went for unrealistic to very doable. I sold everything and purchased the body and the 63mm f/2.8. This lens is absolutely incredible! I don't like that it does'nt focus internal, but for portraitures, landscape, cityscape, and street photography, this lens is Sharp, Sharp, and insanely Sharp. I've already preordered the 110mm f/2 and will give serious consideration to the 45mm f/2.8 when it's announced. Fuji Rocks!

I bought this lens, along with the GF 45mm, from B&H to take the place of the GF 32-64mm that I tried for a few days and decided wasn’t for me, mostly due to its size and weight. I already had the GF 23mm, so these two lenses provide nice middle-ground focal lengths. While I like having f/2.8, I especially like the weight of this lens. The zoom weighs more than twice the weight of the 63mm - 875g vs 405g, a very noticeable difference when mounted on the camera. And, yes, I know the zoom is more versatile in terms of focal length, but for me, Ive just never enjoyed shooting with a zoom lens as much as I have a prime, and I think Im done trying. It balances extremely well on the GFX 50s and offers tremendous versatility in doing portrait, landscape, or even macro work (especially when paired with one the the GF macro extension tubes) .I thought I’d use the GF 45mm more often, but there is something about the GF 63mm that has led me to leaving it mounted on the camera almost constantly. It renders very pleasing images both in terms of sharpness and contrast, and has reasonably good focus speed, at least for what I shoot. It outperformed my expectations and I’m glad I made the switch.

Sharp, small, light, affordable.

Of all the GF lenses I have owned or tried I keep coming back to this one for many shots. The focal length happens to fall into the range I tend to use often and its easier to carry around than many of the other GF lenses. I've used the GF 50mm f/3.5 and liked it but the low magnification (.1X compared to .17X) and smaller (slower) aperture with its associated depth of field characteristics were a deal breaker as I enjoy close-ups of small objects with substantial subject separation. The shallow depth of field qualities of the GF 63mm are pretty decent with nice bokeh and excellent sharpness. Autofocus is reasonably quick though noisier and slower than the GF 50mm. Plenty fast enough and the noise is not really a problem. I also prefer the longer focal length. I ... MoreOf all the GF lenses I have owned or tried I keep coming back to this one for many shots. I take a lot of aircraft photos and at least for aircraft such as WW II and modern jet fighters as with people, they tend to look a bit more flattering at this focal length (50mm eq) compared to 40mm eq of the GF 50mm. Personal opinion of course. It might not be as glamorous as the GF 110mm f/2 but an excellent and useful lens, a good first choice.

Sweet Lens for Environmental Portraits

I’ve owned several 35mm full frame equivalent lenses and the Fujifilm GF 45mm f/2.8 R WR lens holds its own with the Zeiss, Leica and Nikon 35mm lenses I’ve bought and sold. The GF45 captures scenes in their full natural brilliance even in poor light. When paired with the GFX 50s, the GF45 offers a compact design, that is fast, has precise focusing and offers high-performing versatility that is well suited for environmental portraits, photojournalism, candid photography and low light landscape. The GF45 (35mmFF equivalent) is my preferred camera lens combo and I use it with the GFX 50s in most situations. Occasionally I may employ my only other lens, the GF 32-64 if I need to expand the focal range. I’ve sold all my other photographic equipment and don’t plan to change for quite some time.

Unexpectedly loved it
27 July 2022

I never expected to get a prime lens at this focal length. I went to my local camera store to check out the XF 150-600, and happened to test drive a GFX 50SII with this lens attached. The lens is loud when focusing, and not very fast to focus. But it has a lot of character. I love the images I get with this. My setup previous to this was a GFX 50R w/45-100. As you'd imagine, this lens creates a much lighter setup, and I use this much more than my 45-100. It's just fun to use. Bought this with the current rebates, and wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again.

I am a big fan of the GFX series and its lenses. This one is a low cost low quality glass and the photos show that. Unfortunately, other than a suspiciously low price, which is still too high, there isn't anything in the make and model to indicate it's not the premium series until you get it, attach it to the camera and start photographing. At least in the Sony there are clear marking to indicate what family the lens belongs to. I'd return it if I could but I think I unfortunately threw the box away.
