This lens really gives you that Medium format look. I own the 50mm and 45-100mm and I think this will stay on my camera most of the time now. No their there is anything wrong with those other lense, they serve their purpose, but F/1.7can be a lot of fun and give you a different perspective on things. The quality of this lens is great, seems to be on par with my other lenses. I haven't used it enough to say it's better or worse. My 45-100mm gives fantastic results. As for cons...As with all of these lenses, the PRICE. It makes it very hard to justify a lens like this when on full frame it would be about $1k, if that. I got it on sale for$1850, and it still feels very overpriced! The other downside for me that correlates with the price is the lack of Linear ... MoreThis lens really gives you that Medium format look. With this being medium format, and things being slower, I don't understand why Fujifilm doesn't have linear motors in all of their lenses. They say it would cost more. Well, all I can say is, figure out a way! Its ridiculous for them not to have LM in every lens for medium format. Now, this isn't a complaint or disappointment about the lens, I knew this going into it and what to expect. For stationary things, this is a very fine lens. and you can get some moving subjects with it also of course, but just don't have huge expectations.Over all a very good lens for the GFX lineup but try to get it used or on sale. I included some early test images.

I have taken this lens out to test it a couple of times and what I have found has been pretty consistent with the reviews that I have read. First, in the center, this lens is amazingly sharp at any aperture from 1.7 to f16. Wide open, it is not as sharp in the corners but in my opinion, that is not an issue at all. How often is one looking in the corners when shooting wide open. By f 2.8, it is very sharp clear across the frame. Due to how sharp this lens is, one has to really concentrate on the focusing. Especially when shooting photos of people as it is easy to miss focusing on the eye and maybe focus on the eyebrow and when close enough, this is noticeable with how sharp this lens is and how tight the focus area can get when wide open. Especially when shooting photos of people as it is easy to miss focusing on the eye and maybe focus on the eyebrow and when close enough, this is noticeable with how sharp this lens is and how tight the focus area can get when wide open. The focusing is pretty quick and very accurate, one just has to pay attention. The focusing motor is pretty loud however which would not be great when shooting videos but it does not bother me for photos. The bokeh on this lens is wonderful!!!! It is so creamy while the focused area is so sharp, that is it extremely easy to really separate the subject from the background in an extremely pleasant manner. This lens allows one to be very creative in many situations due to how nice the bokeh is and how wide the lens is at the same time. You can get very nice photos that really allow the subject to stand out while including a large amount of area.Of course, the lens is very well built as has been every Fujifilm lens I have used. However, there is one big glaring issue for me and that is the color fringing. At wide open, it is very significant when there is much contrast at all. It is more evident with back lighting but there regardless. If you are not making really large prints or cropping the photo, it is probably not very evident but it is definitely there. It is improved by f2.0 and by 2.8 it is small enough that I think one could digitally correct it pretty easily. I am not sure if one could correct it when wide open though and so a person really needs to think about that when shooting. That is the reason I give this lens 4 stars and not five. It does take away from the lens as a whole. This is very far from me saying it is not a great lens, just that one has to think more carefully when using it.I included just a quick photo that helps illustrate what I am saying regarding this lens. It is just a quick shot taken at f 1.7. However, it does show how soft the bokeh is along with when looking at the zoomed in partition, how you can see the flash along with the shadows of the trees in her eyes! Crazily sharp. You can even tell the difference in focus between the eyelashes and the eyeball at this level. Amazingly sharp in my opinion but at the same time you can see the color fringing in the hair. This example is a generally smaller version of the color fringing that I saw when shooting wide open but at least is an example.

This lens is up against the greatest.I have the otus 85, zeiss 135, sigma art 105 f1.4, canon 200 f2, sigma art 85 1.4 and I would consider this lens to be at least as good as these super quality lenses.Fast AF, and very well built.Bokeh is amazing. This is equivalent to a 85mm 1.55 but you really can’t compare as the MF size gives such a different perspective over small format or aps-c. The appearance would really seem like an 85mm 1.1 if you consider the surface area of the MF sensor. But then that would just spark debate.Let’s just say, at 110 f2 you are focusing on eyes and having eyelashes out of focus, and eye brows blurred out and everything else just melts away to a creamy smooth blur.Af is spot on. My Fujifilm GFX 100 camera and the GF 110 f/2 lens combine a 102 megapixel sensor camera with a 110 mm lens that provides fabulous resolution. There is no way to describe the presence and resolution that this lens gives to every photo. I process the raw files with Capture One Pro22 and the jpegs it produces are colorful and take your breath away with their image quality. I transfer the images from my laptop to a 65 in. LG OLED TV so I can expand the 102 megapixel jpegs to almost full screen size, with no apparent loss in visual impact. I am anxious to print some 17x22 photos on my Epson Surecolor printer. Downloading to electronic media usually results in loss of quality, but I am attaching some bird photos as examples.
The GF 110 is no joke, But the shipping process is. When I went over to the shipping facility to pick it up the lens box was just bouncing around inside its shipping box. No bubble wrap or any type of packing protection of any kind. Needless to say that didn't fly at all. I sent it back and was told that I would receive it 2nd day air like it was supposed to be shipped the first time and they dropped the ball again. Sent it ground again and shipped the same way. You would think when you are paying this much money for something that more care and consideration would be in place but it's not. Luckily the lens seems to be ok and I am enjoying it but more attention to detail and packing of your products no matter the cost needs closer attention. Astonishing optical quality and character at the same time. Fujifilm did their homework well. Bulky, but not large and heavy, but not too heavy if we consider that it's a made for a large sensor. I owned bulkier 85mm lenses for 35mm format in the past, so I'm ok with this.
I've read many recent reviews of this lens, some glowing and some with reservations and all of the less than positive comments seem to come from newbie medium format people with little or no other experience of the format complaining about the slow autofocus. No, it's not (nor are any of the other GF lenses, or come to that, any other medium format lenses) as fast-focusing as the best professional level FF lenses or bodies. If you want this kind of stunning resolution, then simple physics dictates that ultra-fast focusing with the huge amount of solid glass involved simply won't happen. Why do you think that ALL professional sports photographers are using FF bodies with only 20mp of resolution and 20 fps? No such thing as a free lunch here, guys & gals. Why do you think that ALL professional sports photographers are using FF bodies with only 20mp of resolution and 20 fps? No such thing as a free lunch here, guys & gals. Medium format isn't spray-and-pray. If you only want to take pictures of your cat galloping across the lawn, buy an appropriate camera for that. A Sony A7R III / IV or Nikon Z7 or something, as opposed to medium format. This lens is to my mind, as a product photographer, the perfect lens at its focal length. It marries very well with GFX100 bodies - extremely well balanced and easy to focus manually. Not too heavy, and not too big and not too slow. The autofocus is quicker and more accurate for example than my Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II lens on a 5D3, and that is still considered the professional go-to FF portraiture lens. Yes, it's fractionally slower to focus than other lenses, both FF and Medium that have linear autofocus motors (this has a DC, according to Fuji), but quicker L-A motors are bigger, heavier and more expensive. You pays your money and takes your choice. This is neither a heavy, nor an expensive lens for medium format. As a studio lens, it's magnificent. At f:5.6 through f:11 it's as crisp right up to the corners as any other Fuji lens, including the 110GF or 120GF. It's depth of field wide open is so close to the 110 that you won't really be able to, or have the time, to tell the difference. Anyway, for a waist-up portrait lens, the corner sharpness wide open isn't quite so important as for head-shot close-ups (as with the 110). Not that this is particularly my thing, but this lens is brilliant for hand held ultra-low key shots at wide apertures. Don't let all the bench distortion, field curvature or MTF tests confuse you. These things are all but irrelevant in the real world. This is one of the very best general photography medium format lenses and a near perfect lens in my world and I absolutely love it. It could only be better for me if it had slightly closer focus. but then it would be heavier, larger and more expensive. All the compromises are right, here. If only my picture taking eyes and brain were even half as good as anything Fuji makes these days. Just reflect on what a Diane Arbus or a John Minihan could do with a camera-lens combination like this.
This is my first step into telephoto lenses, after using a normal lens for the past few years. What a world! Very interesting contrast, very interesting depth of field possibilities. I work with the FUJIFILM MCEX-18G WR Macro Extension Tube for my macro shots, and it integrates well with this lens.Stunning for portraiture, and so much fun for still life.Minor warning - this is a very heavy lens, and a very wide barrel. It isn't a dream to use handheld on the GFX 50R's rangefinder form. The payoff to the discomfort is worth it to me though - extraordinary image quality at a highly competitive price-point.
This lens is one of the reasons I purchased a GFX 50S originally and now use it on a GFX 50R. I can't say I have ever shot with a sharper lens or one with better bokeh. It is large and somewhat heavy but for the work I do that is not really an issue. The build quality is outstanding with all metal construction and engraved markings. Top notch. With this focal length and the large sensor you can achieve subject separation even at moderate distances. In terms of its field of view, similar to an 85mm lens in the full frame world, it is highly versatile. I've shot with the the Nikkor 105mm f/1.4 and Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM lenses and both of them are truly outstanding but for the work I do they tend to be too long in many cases.Focus is reasonably fast and quiet. There is some noise but not much. Far quieter and more refined than the excellent GF 63mm f/2.8 which I also own. As far as I am concerned this is the best lens I have ever owned in this field of view range.
Before I bought this lens I was aware there is a slight thumb inside the lens which has been reported by other customers. Had to return the first sample because the thumbing was just too obvious even with the lens attached and several images were distorted. The second sample was better. I can't imagine the floating element will not affect the focus.
