Im a retired professional photographer who just shoots for fun now. But Im still pretty picky about my equipment. I own two Fuji bodies, a small, lightweight XT-20, a medium size X-T2 and an assortment of 10 Fuji lenses, both primes and zooms. This little lens is amazing considering what it sells for. The image quality is quite good; its especially sharp at wide angle focal lengths across the entire frame, with good contrast. My copy is very nearly as good as my 18-55, and has the more versatile 16mm (24mm equivalent) wide angle. This lens makes a great lightweight combo with the X-T20. The build quality is consumer grade, but that shouldnt be a problem for most people who take reasonable. The OIS is just OK and its not weather resistant. This is the 'economy' level (as are all XC model lenses) kit zoom lens for Fuji X-mount cameras. Remarkable performance for the money, especially used. Remarkably it is only marginally less sharp at some apertures and focal lengths than the XF version, which at 18-55 mm, also has a slightly different zoom range. This lens is also lighter weight, lacks an aperture ring, and has only a plastic mount! If anything, that is its only weakness. Examples with damaged mounts can be found on Ebay. Cheap kit lens for Fuji...as all know, better than most kit lenses. Got if as companion to camera given to wife which came w/o a lens. Works fine....packaging was less than inspiring...came in a bag wrapped in bubble wrap. ...on the other hand it survived the travels OK...so speaks somewhat to durability. Works fine and is sharp enough. Bargain price for Fuji X lenses. No aperture rings on all XC lenses.

Purchased this in the kit with FujiFilm X-E3.Good:-Covers most photo needs for landscape/street/portrait photography-decent image stabilization and 3x zoom.-relatively compact and doesn't need Hercules to carry it aroundWishful thinking:-Would like it to be black-Would like rotation ring to be a bit wider to hold it comfortablyMust do before using:-In case it has firmware v1.0 upgrade it to 1.11 first to prevent focusing and other issues (see Fujifilm.com for details)Have a nice photo sessions!
First, let me say the five star rating is based on the value of this lens when bought in a kit. I already had a XF 18-55 when I got this lens in a kit. The physical difference is obvious. Slower, plastic construction, no aperture ring, and a relatively cheap feel. It does not have the pride of ownership of the 18-55. That said, it is optically quite good. Head to head with the 18-55, it acquits itself quite well. You have to get into the extreme enlargement category to to see that the 18-55 is a little sharper. I really liked extra wide angle and the slight loss of telephoto isn't missed at all. Overall, this is a great picture taker, and for a C note over the price of a body only it's an outstanding value. In the overall scheme of things, I would recommend getting ... MoreFirst, let me say the five star rating is based on the value of this lens when bought in a kit. This is a basic general purpose zoom lens. I like that it is 16mm at the wide end as that is 24 mm equivalent on my XM1. The lens mount is plastic and provides a snug fit. The auto focus works fine for my use. The lens is a featherweight so great for hiking and causal photo work. Happy with this purchase
I have owned all three of the wide to standard mm zooms. The most expensive is the XF 16-55mm f2.8 ($1200) and is the largest, heaviest, best built of the three that produces wonderfully sharp images. If you absolutely must have a constant aperture, fast f2.8 this is your only option and it is a good one, but expensive. The lesser expensive XF ($500+/-) is the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4. Includes OIS and takes sharp images as well, though not as sharp wide open as the much more expensive XF 16-55mm. This XC 16-50mm (as cheap as $150 used) takes as sharp images as the XF18-55mm. You do give up a heftier build and a faster shutter, but the images are still beautifully sharp. If speed is not a must have, and you don't mind a plastic feeling build, but you do want crisp, sharp ... MoreI have owned all three of the wide to standard mm zooms. It is the Cinderella in the cheaper gown that still looks great once you get past the covering. Great IQ, cheap build.
I have more than one Fuji X body. I wanted to add lighter lenses to my other XF lenses. I read up on the XC lenses and thought I would give this one a try. It is a very good lens and, although mostly plastic, does not feel like a cheaply made lens. More importantly, the image quality is excellent. Altogether a very good lens and a very attractive price. This performs more like a top line lens than what you would expect from a "kit" lens. Well worth buying.
Excellent value, lightweight and reasonably sharp. This lens is great for walking about, with a great zoom range including an equivalent 24mm at the wide end, which is rare on a budget APC-C lens. Hard to beat for the price. Super light weight. Mount is plastic so one has to be careful when mounting and removing the lens. Also included a hood, which isn't standard.
From a journeyman's point of view, assuming you want a powered zoom lens this one seems great for the money to me. My pictures and videos so far have turned out great, the two-speed zoom could be quieter but it's not too loud. In videos you can hear the motor some but it's not bad, and it also allows for dramatic smooth zoom in and outs on like faces while people talk while easily holding the camera stable which is fun. it also has a "manual"-ish ring you can use that allows you to zoom in steps, which can be useful if you want the exact same zoom, but it's a lot lurchier and a bit slower than an actual manual zoom. My only real caveat is if you're specifically looking for a zoom lens in the 16-50mm range that can zoom in and out completely silently and also really ... MoreFrom a journeyman's point of view, assuming you want a powered zoom lens this one seems great for the money to me. This lens was also relatively cheap, and very light and small so it keeps your fuji pack small and light which makes it great for walking around a lot with and doing some street or cameo shots and videos (which is what I primarily use it for). I have a nikon d5300 as well and the size and weight difference between the two with a similar lens is quite noticeable.
