Fujifilm XF 16-55mm F2.8 WR II Lens

(68 reviews)

Thanks to the 16-55mm zoom range, the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II is a useful lens for traveling photographers. It fits on Fujifilm mirrorless cameras with an X mount. This lens weighs 410g, so it doesn't add a lot of weight to your camera bag. That way, you can easily take it with you. There's a rotating ring on the lens that allows you to quickly adjust the aperture. You can choose if you want to do this step by step or continuously. If you choose continuous, you create a smooth transition while you record. You can slowly sharpen the background, for example. The lens has a large f/2.8 aperture. This means you can take clear photos at dark locations.

Lens came with debris inside, affecting image quality. The zoom ring movement is also pretty jerky compared to my 18-55.

I wanted to replace my old XF18-55 lens which wasn't giving the best results on my X-T5. The XF16-55 mk2 provides excellent results. It's sharp, the image quality is great, the colour rendition has the same magic as my XF16 f1.4. The focusing speed and accuracy is far better. And, because I got one on release day, Carmarthen Cameras is my new favourite camera shop :-D

Great zoom on the X-H2S as assessed by someone who generally prefers GFX shooting

My Fuji journey started with the GFX 100. I have loved the system. I have backfilled into the X system because of its size. I have an X100VI and an X-H2S. I've been shooting wider primes on the X-H2S mostly for video, but I wanted a stellar zoom with minimal focus breathing for a reasonable price. I find myself shooting mostly stills now, and being able to take pictures with smaller file sizes that are great quality has been rewarding. This lens on the X-H2S shines. It's sharp and capable with quick autofocus. I had forgotten how flexible a zoom can be, and Fuji knows how to bring quality to a zoom lens. I occasionally shoot the 32-62mm GF zoom, which I like a lot but don't love. It's beautifully precise, but lacks inherent character. My Experience
19 December 2024

I was not pleased with the performance of this lens. Testing the lens at home on a tripod, the images were VERY soft at f2.8 at a close (but not closest) focal range. Outdoors, the lens would not focus at f2.8. I had to stop down to f4 to get the lens to focus.

Soft focus at 2.8

So far I’m not pleased with this lens, I might have to return it, it is very very soft at f2.8, I understand that lenses will get softer at the larger aperture but this is way beyond what is expected out of most premium lenses. Being that this is a red badge Fuji lens I wouldn’t expect it to be this bad. I’ll try testing it some more but if I’m not pleased I’ll be sending it back for a refund very soon

[Rewarded Review] 16-55 f 2.8 - great deal

Great overall lense for multi purpose photography. Might be not your cup of tea if you are coming from primers but I wish that I would purchased this lense from the beginning when I got my XT-3. Instead of it I bought 35mm f2 primer which is a great lense for the budget. When I have traveled I have missed a lot of cool shots because it was either not wide enough or I could not zoom in. Beware it is pretty big and heavy compare to primers so if you are looking for something light it might not be for you.

[Rewarded Review] A must-have for video
27 July 2020

When I was looking into making the switch from Sony to Fuji, the first thing that caught my eye was this lens.1. I knew I wanted to do video and I would want a lens that can zoom in and out without the actual lens extending2. One that allowed me to shoot in lower light conditions if needed and provided some bokeh3. I also wanted it to have in-body stabilization (OIS) to prevent video shakinessThis one checked all those boxes.

[Rewarded Review] Nice Lens
27 December 2024

I just received my new Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II Lens. The lens will be used on my Fujifilm X-H2, and Fujifilm X-T5. So far the lens has performed very well, fast focus, sharp, light weight compare to the original lens, and uses a smaller filter. This is my travel and everyday lens, when I'm not using fix lens mount. My only compliant is that the lens is Made in the Philippines and not in Japan.

[Rewarded Review] Smaller lighter sharper
26 December 2024

Upgraded from original 16-55 2.8. The original is very sharp but also quite large for the X-T5 I mount it on. The new lens is a bit sharper with slightly better contrast from my side by test of my garage door. I wouldn’t upgrade for the improved sharpness but is a nice bonus. The big feature is the huge difference in size that makes this lens much more enjoyable to lug around for hours. I don’t do video but the clickless aperture feature works. The aperture clicks are quite a bit lighter feeling than the outgoing lens for what it’s worth. Focus seems faster but haven’t used enough to really judge it.Likely to be my new favorite lens I can use everywhere.
