Having seen many articles dismiss the Fuji 2x teleconverter I did have second thoughts about buying one. But from personal experience I can say I am pleased with how it has increased the 70-300mm lens I use it with. Every piece of equipment has it's pros and cons, and personally I think the woes expressed about the 2x are not exactly justified or a bit excessive. Using this 2x has added to my 70-300mm lens considerably. The alternative would be to buy the 600mm lens and I feel that the weight and cost removed that as an option. I am disabled and the extra weight and cost for me do not balance. For me and I suspect for many the 2x is perfectly adequate for many tasks.

Delivery was early as usual, came extremely well packed (bordering on overkill!), and was very clean.IQ is softer than just the lens by itself, but if you practice good long lens technique (high shutter speeds, properly supporting the lens, obviously keep OIS on) and stop down a bit, it’s pretty good with just a touch of sharpening in post. Was on a whale watching tour on a sunny day with calm seas and had no problem getting keepers at f/11.Speaking of keepers, was good enough that I ended up buying it through the Keeper program here - extra rental discount was a nice bonus!

I love this 2X teleconverter. I use it with my 100/400 lens and I am very impressed with the sharpness and the quality of the photos. I am impressed with the autofocus and the ability to lock on to the subject. It is easy to attach and easy to remove. The look and feel is very impressive. The price is high, but when you consider that it gives you another lens in your bag I think it is worth it.

While the teleconverter did what it was supposed to do and was in excellent shape, the star of this rental was the service I received. Two days before leaving on my trip, the item was already two days late (I like to get things early to have some time to try them out before going on my trip) and the shipper had lost it. I called LensRentals, explained the situation, and asked what next steps we could take. The agent I talked to said they'd call the shipper, see what they could do, but if that didn't work, they would ship another one overnight to a pickup location at my destination so I could pick it up once I get into town, all at no cost to me. I was impressed that they'd do this, especially after I mentioned this isn't a critical piece of equipment for my trip, ... MoreWhile the teleconverter did what it was supposed to do and was in excellent shape, the star of this rental was the service I received. I was impressed that they'd do this, especially after I mentioned this isn't a critical piece of equipment for my trip, just something I'd like to play with for a while. A few hours after hanging up, I got an update from the agent mentioning they'd talked to the shipping company and, if it doesn't get to my home by the next day, to get back in contact to arrange the drop shipment. A couple hours after that, the shipper "found" the teleconverter, it came the next day, and I was able to pack and take it. I still don't know how the agent was able to kick things into motion, but LensRentals totally owned the situation, was very pleasant and understanding to work with, and seemed happy to help. That level of service, along with the quality and variety of gear, will keep me renting from them for a long time!
I've often wondered what teleconverter would have to offer. I have been using a Fuji 70-300mm zoom to cover motorcycle racing. Got the converter to try at a track that was new to me. Surprisingly, it was overkill, so didn't use it much at all. The converter even arrived a couple of days early. Lensrentals is a great way to test these things out. Last year I rented a 10-24mm for a project - in that case I found it valuable, so purchased it from Lensrentals. I love these folks.
I used the Fuji 2X teleconverter on the Fuji XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR, lens. It was a pleasure for me to use and discover its capabilities. I mainly focused (no pun intended) on capturing eagles that had migrated south along the Mississippi river for winter at Clarksville, MO and at Riverlands Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, Missouri. The challenge for me was to be able to track them in flight while at 800mm.A full moon was occurring while I had the lens so I took the opportunity to capture it as well. It rendered very nice sharp images. It was overall an excellent lens for capturing eagles, and other birds, as well as images of the full moon.
I used this with the Fuji 50mm-140mm 2.8 and the Fuji 100mm-400mm 4.5-5.6. At all focal lengths the images were soft. After looking up some tips, I found that having it on either lens just worth it. I was shooting birds and traded the extra reach for better image quality and more flexibility in shooting speeds and f-stops. It was good to learn its abilities and limitations.
On the positive side, this teleconverter is beautifully built, fits perfectly on my camera and all shooting data is visible on the LCD and viewfinder. I put this on my beloved Fuji 50-140mm f2.8 lens on my XT2 to use in single point continuous auto focus, shooting birds in flight. I hoped the image quality would be acceptable at higher magnification. Shooting at f8, I could only get sharp images that were around the same magnification as the maximum (140mm) of the original lens. I tested it using a fixed target at about 50 yards at maximum magnification (280mm). I went through the lens apertures from wide open to fully stopped down. Using a good shutter speed, single servo, and OIS. I found that f5.6 was terrible, f8 was quite soft, and f11 was best, f16 ... MoreOn the positive side, this teleconverter is beautifully built, fits perfectly on my camera and all shooting data is visible on the LCD and viewfinder. I have attached two images taken at 280mm, sized to 100% and cropped to the center. The worst one is f5.6. The best one is at f11. If you use a tripod and shoot slow moving or still targets, this might work. But "forget it" in low light or where there is fast movement or probably most things with an unsupported or handheld camera. Thanks to B&H, I have returned the TC2x. I have ordered the Fuji TC1.4x and I have high hopes. I'll review it.
As far as teleconverters go, this one is pretty good. It retains AF and IS, but you're going to lose sharpness and the AF isn't as good as on the lens alone, but that's typical. I have gotten, what I consider, acceptable results for professional work, but it's not always 100%...more like 40%. Yes, maybe it's me still learning, but I took my 55-140 f/2.8 to a gig the first day and nailed it. This teleconverter has sweet spots for sure!I didn't by this for my professional work though. I'm only shooting sports games and wildlife for fun. If that's your jam.....well let's be honest Cannon, Nikon or Sony are better platforms. This lets me pretend though.Conclusion. Product works as advertised. Not listed in the Adorama info, this product is compatible with the XF 70-300mm OIS WR lens, which is what I have. This product is also weather resistant, so I can use it with my X-T4 in rain and snow conditions. The only downside is the loss of 2 stops on the aperture. This should not be an issue for me as I am using this principally for wildlife and birds, so typically have good light for shooting. Seems expensive for the size, but it makes a sensible solution to gain distance when you compare the 70-300mm lens plus TC cost versus the 100-400mm lens at 50 percent higher cost and you have a 600mm lens combination that yields a 914mm 35mm equivalent on the Fujifiln APS-C sensor.
