Nothing compares to this for the price. Paired with a decent grinder and some dialing in with the help of a scale, I'm getting consistent quality shots. The steam is surprisingly powerful and can create perfectly textured milk with some practice. Some gripes: the stock portafilter feels cheap compared to the rest of the machine (which is very solid and nicely built). There is not a lot of clearance for a cup between the drip tray and portafilter spouts, particularly if using a scale (looking to get a bottomless portafilter to address this). The steam wand is a little too rigid (fixed rotation rather than a ball joint). The brew head is situated directly under the boiler, so heat is transferred to the brew head very efficiently. A good pairing is the Rancilio Rocky Doserless.The supplied plastic tamper is rubbish so throw it in the bin and get one that’s at least 58.55mm in diameter. The plastic tamper will only result in sub-par results due to channelling. Actually, I would recommend a good adjustable and weighty distributer in lieu of a tamper as that will solve most user issues right out of the box.Its weak point is steam pressure which is only fine for frothing milk for 1 cup. If frothing for 2 cups, it starts to run out of puff at about the 50degC mark and then you have to coax it along until it hits 65. The steam wand itself is superb, but with such poor frothing performance, Gaggia really should not have supplied it with a two-hole steam tip. However, this is easily remedied by blocking up the inner hole of the with a wooden toothpick and will result in a much better-quality texture!The drip tray is a pretty decent size too, but the downside is that you need to choose your cups carefully as there is not much room under the portafilter spouts.Sure, there are compromises with the Classic, but this is part of its charm. Next up the rung is the legendary Rancilio Silvia, and that comes with a bunch of compromises itself. Just learn to live with the Classic’s little foibles and enjoy the great coffee this little wonder can produce!

I have had it for around 8 weeks now, used it everyday. It didn’t take long to perfect my technique, now I am brewing coffees as good as I would get in a coffee shop. When my Saeco 006 finally died after 20+ years, the Gaggia Classic Pro in Lobster Red piqued my interest, especially with the wooden accents. Very similar manual of arms to my old Saeco. Mark did the rest. Great sales and follow up service. When I call the store, they recognize me by name. I'm a WLL customer for life.The Gaggia pulls really nice shots but I found the limitations of my current cheapo grinder, especially using the bottomless portafilter with walnut handle I also ordered. Upgrading to a Kitchen Aid burr grinder from WLL.Steams milk so much quicker than my old machine. Cleanup is a breeze.Love the build quality and simple interface too.

I have used an automatic machine for years, for convenience, but it turns out I was kidding myself. It just doesn't come anywhere near to this on flavour. I researched the **** out of manual coffee machines and this one is the most recommended for value. All I can say is - it makes a great shot and AB has the best pricing. Negatives - the ****** plastic tamper should be thrown out immediately. The baskets are 59mm and this thing is 55mm - it is a pain to use and usually results in coffee on the bench. Also, there is not much room to fit in a large cup, so I will end up with a bottomless portafilter to get the clearance I need. Otherwise, great machine for the money and worth the extra effort over any automatic machine.
