If I have to press some coffee grinds and press buttons to start and stop the pour, maybe that’s a good trade.

First espresso maker I have owned, very happy with purchase

I have been wanting a home espresso maker for about half a decade, but really didn't know much about the relatively more affordable options. My previous research had indicated the normal grinder I used for drip coffee would not be ideal, so buying a machine seemed to also require buying a espresso-purposed grinder. On a trip this summer, I visited a friend who is an engineer by profession and has one of these machines, which he highly recommended. I took the plunge several weeks later and have been really pleased. The internal grinder component, simple milk frothing, and ease of operation were probably the key selling points. Setting up was fairly simple, and I just did my first weekly cleaning routine this past weekend. Thus far using and taking care of the machine is really straightforward, although there was a little residual oil coating on the brew group which makes me think I still have some work to do in fine tuning my grind (I have been using the Gaggia Intenso with the factory setting for the grind). I am curious to see how many pulls this little machine has in it, but hopefully I don't find that answer out for several years!

We find the milk frothing one of the weakest points of this machine. It is convenient but there is no control on the result and the froth is less than optimal. We find the water reservoir small and therefore it requires to be refilled constantly. If you want to use the option of the already grinded coffee, it is important to put less than the provided spoon. Otherwise it makes a complete mess. We love the grinder and works really well. The coffee comes out hot and overall we have enjoyed the machine and the options it provides for strength and temperature. We are beginners so this machine was a good option for us.

Good coffee- plastic product
17 August 2023

We recently (3 days ago) received our new Gaggia Velasca Prestige automatic espresso machine and although it makes great coffee and the milk frothier is lovely, the construction of our machine is poor. The water reservoir plastic cover comes off every time we try to remove the water. Not only is this frustrating, it makes the water reservoir difficult to remove and it is obvious the weak plastic attachment will break in the near future. We would have returned the machine except the return policy states we can’t even open the box to see the machine, let alone try it out. I would not recommend this coffee machine and am disappointed in the poor construction of it.

Great coffee machine. Water tank
26 January 2023

Great coffee machine. Water tank volume could be greater. Water tank front cover design needs improvement because the tank is hard to pull out from unit and the cover separated from tank. I had to place gorilla clear double stick tape under botton snap on lock to help keep from detaching. This could be a problem in the future. I was told by selller, Whole latte love that it was a know design problem and they would replace it while under warranty. Gaggia needs to look into this and replace covers with without charge to customers who purchased. Otherwise machine makes great product.

I love mine
10 May 2023

Third Gaggia I've owned and this one is my favorite by far. Arrived extremely well packed. Setup was very detailed but it was made simple with very clearly written instructions. Being used to a much larger reservoir, I thought this smaller one would bug me, but no. It's actually much easier to handle than the larger ones. I find the milk carafe to be perfectly sized as well. The functions are easy to use, and the machine makes great coffees. My only gripe with this and other Gaggias is that the faucets always seem to be just shorter than my favorite mug.

Previously I had a Jura for years which I enjoyed. However this Gaggia is pure pleasure to use, with numerous options, and useful improvements. Just having a water reservoir that not only holds more but can be easily removed and filled from the front of the machine is a nice change. Programming preferences is easy, the button icons are intuitive. The once a week maintenance is simple and I appreciate being able to get to the inside to keep it clean. I always cringed at the mildew that would develop in inaccessible areas of the Jura if it wasn't used for a few days and how difficult it was to try to clean. The Gaggia grinds beautifully and makes a perfect cappuccino! The milk carafe works terrific even with my soymilk. So far I love this new machine.

Not to my tastes
28 January 2022

So I have had my unit for about a year now. Every morning, I have a double shot before I am off to work.I enjoy sipping my espresso, so I tend to be very taste sensitive. I've found a few things I like, and a few I don't like.Positives: It is a single button to push for your coffee. Whichever you want. Parts are simply interchangeable - so If you want a cappuccino, milk based, or whatever, it is very easy. The water filter on the unit is an excellent idea - makes a consistent cup every time. The waste containers and water reserve are large enough that you are not refilling them every two days. The bean hopper holds enough for many cups, I only have to fill it 1/2 way for the week. And the unit looks good on my counter.Negatives: I do not like how the unit grinds ... MoreSo I have had my unit for about a year now. And the unit looks good on my counter.Negatives: I do not like how the unit grinds the coffee. The grind is too course for my tastes, and changes the flavor profile I like. It does have a place for ground coffee, and honestly I've not tried it yet.In fact, no matter what I do, this machine makes a very bitter cup. I've adjusted temperatures, pre-infusion, brew temps, and coffee types. The coffee I've used for years that I have shipped in, and the coffee I get from the local roaster all come out bitter in this unit.Cleaning: This is a pain in the bottom. The unit comes apart easily, and only has a few pieces - I really like that. But they are hard to wash, and have many nooks and crannies. Same with the main unit. There are many angles, corners, and areas where you have to work very hard to clean this unit thoroughly. You have to wait about 30 to 45 min after you turn the unit off, or you will have a pool of water under your unit to clean. The whole cleaning and relubrication that is done weekly takes a good 30 to 45 min, then you have to let everything sit out a few hours to dry properly. Assembly and disassembly is actually quite easy once you get the hang of it.Overall - I don't think I'd buy this unit again. The primary reason is the coffee grinder. Even with every adjustment I've tried, I cannot get the coffee ground fine enough, I like my espresso hotter, and less bitter.

Ordering and delivery flawless. Machine
8 December 2023

Ordering and delivery flawless. Machine design is great in general but has minor flaw. New bin cover design has embedded magnet preventing grinder to work when cover is is out. And under grinder shield there is sensor sensing bin cover presence. Sensor mounting is poor allowing sensor to move easily and bin cover magnet is weak so machine often refuses to work displaying bin cover presence error when cover is present and correctly positioned. Moving sensor requires skills and tools and still is not reliable.

Some improvements, some drawbacks over previous Gaggia machine
27 January 2022

Purchased this machine after having my Gaggia Platinum Vision machine for 6 years and going through an extensive repair on that machine a couple of years ago (Whole Latte Love did a great job with the repair by the way). On to the review...The Velasca Prestige makes great coffee drinks, and has a number of features that help you to customize what you make - so that is a positive. The milk carafe and the one-touch cappuccino are also a nice touch. The cons include the following: (1) The machine severely limits the size of cup you can use for your coffee. At times with my old machine I would use disposable paper cups that were roughly 6" tall, but this machine has a much lower clearance. In fact even a 5" tall mug has to be pushed into the clearance in order to be used. This is a bit annoying. (2) The machine frequently and randomly without warning will do a cleaning cycle that expels a lot of water (in my opinion). Issues with this are that I use bottled water for the coffee, so that gets wasted, the other issue is that the machine does a "quick clean" after every drink so you can't simply walk away after pressing the buttons to make a cappuccino..if you are away from the machine after the drink is made, it may just run that cycle thereby diluting the drink (in fairness, there is probably a way to adjust this and I just haven't figured it out). (3) The machine has these odd, ominous warning lights that come on in bright red lettering when you are out of coffee or out of water, and the light is accompanied by a 30 second "countdown" inferring that you only have that time frame to do the needful. Its just a bit odd, not necessarily a bad thing. Honestly I would probably look for a different model given some of this, but I will make it work. Really miss my Gaggia Platinum Vision though!
