Game of Life

I was really wanting to love this game. Life is one of my top two games I love to play. I was glad to see actual money was involved, not some card system that kept tabs for you. I like the math skills integrated when my kids play. The cars and people/pets updated look are super cute. Otherwise it was a disappointment. You just keep getting money, money, money. Nothing bad ever happens - all risk is basically gone. Unless you pick the “path of doom” that’s one little stretch of board. Even when you “lose” money on an action card, you still get $100k at the end of the game for every single action. The increase in starting money also means the college path isn’t as risky - no loan needed. Salaries are directly tied to positions. So it’s actually advantageous to go to college in this Life edition. The houses are all pretty great or amazing. No shacks or funny junk houses as options. I don’t know, the whole vibe of the game is just so different than the original, I was pretty disappointed. No hill or mountain ridges to give some visual variety to the game board. I was hoping this was going to replace my 30yo board but I doubt it. Also don’t like that it’s only 4 players. The older version has six players.

I know it's hard to produce a good game but Hasbro has years of experience and unfortunately has let themselves down here. Instructions do seem confusing at first, but once playing the game you realise they aren't. It's actually such an easy game to play but it can be over within 10-15 minutes! And the spinning wheel keeps flying off, very frustrating. It's purely for kids, adults shouldn't play but should just stick to being the banker, that way he/she can make the game play last longer, such as by directing the game of play in a different direction or by choosing different cards. Overall my 6 year old son and I are extremely disappointed. It cost so much to buy and there isn't a great deal to get excited over. Wow, this game really takes me back. I haven't played it since my childhood and it was nice to have this bit of nostalgia with a new generation. The game play is pretty much similar, however the game pieces are a LOT smaller than what I remember, which is nice, less use of plastics and other non essential materials. The directions are super easy to understand, even the kids can play this game without the adults, unlike the old school version of the game. The spinner/bank/card holder is easily attachable and detachable from the corner of the gameboard. The small bonus I liked this with was the small plastic bag that was included for storing the game pieces, it was a nice little touch that I appreciated. I can't wait to play again!
