Disappointing to say the least.2) You can't customize the watch face as much as the vivofit. The vivofit you can change the face style AND the color pattern, widget display on the watch face. My mistake for not investigating it properly, but for the price point i never figured it was such a basic smartwatch.

Love the watch. Found replacement bands on Amazon. Easy to switch out. Bought for the golf app though. Works like my g12 but better. I can keep score easily. Would definitely recommend. Also looks great w/golf or any attire. Battery life is also great. Keeps charge for a few days (would prob be more but I'm used to apple watch). I bought as an alternative to my Apple watch. Only complaint is that it doesn't communicate precisely w/my iPhone. Records steps correctly but, iPhone robs me og steps when it syncs. Garmin Connect app allows you to monitor your steps, works outs, calories, sleep, and weight. Really cool

Great golf watch

This watch is perfect for golf. Accurate GPS, easy to keep score. Love it. Far better than the arccos system I was using. The arccos flaw is tying the scorecard to the shot detection. Their shot detection misses several shots per round. That means your scorecard is wrong and it's a pain to fix in the middle of your round. With the S42, you manually add your score after each hole including putts and any penalty shots. It even reminds you to add your score when you get to the next tee box, if you forgot. S42 will auto-score for you but it will miss the occasional shot so being able to override the auto scoring after each hole ensures score accuracy. It tracks your average and max shots per club. And the shot detection misses fewer shots than did arccos. Only complaint ... MoreThis watch is perfect for golf. Accurate GPS, easy to keep score. Love it. Also love having all of the info I need right on my wrist instead of having to dig my cell phone out of my pocket 2 or 3 times every hole (arccos). Don't mean to knock arccos. It's just that Garmin has a superior solution.

I normally wear the Garmin fenix 6 and I really like it. I maybe play golf 10-15 times a year but had no interest in buying a range finder or constantly looking at my phone at a golf app, after all the whole point of golfing is enjoying the friends and the course. So I decided to give the Approach S42 a try. I have used it 3 times on the course and absolutely love it. Honestly it has improved my game just by knowing how far I am from the hole but more importantly actually knowing how far I hit each club. Super easy to use and everything I need for a causal golfer who didn’t want to spend a lot of money. For me this is a golf only watch as I tend to be very active and need the durability of the fenix, not to say the approach is not durable but I am not interested in finding out. The brightness and color of the course on the watch is perfect even in the sun. It is easy to use and I highly recommend it. As far as looks it is on the smaller size for my taste, but it is light so it doesn’t interfere with my swing and it’s just big enough not to be your kids watch. It will track your steps but that’s it, so it’s not a fitness tracker in my opinion. In closing I say get it you’ll really like it and if you are a very serious golf maybe upgrade as I think this is a mid level golf watch. Also the customer service at play better is amazing I had a few issues with my fenix and they fixed everything very quickly with no questions asked, that’s why I bought the approach from them as well!

Have played 10 rounds with the S42, and I'm spoiled. The distance readings have matched Range Finder readings. A quick glance at the watch allows me to choose the correct club for where I'm standing, in turn, improving my game very fast. Also, tracking distances of drives, irons, fade, draw, straight... wish it allowed you to enter club swing when the gyro doesn't pick it up... when I do a half swing or less, it doesn't pick up... or putts to measure the distance... which would be nice. Not a deal breaker, as it helps me easily track my Fairways Hit, GIR, total putts, and score without much thought or hassle. Great watch, auto shot feature is touchy
2 June 2023

I bought this to help me learn what distances I was getting from each club. Auto shot is supposed to detect your swing and then ask what club you hit. But it doesn’t work for me. Garmin support was great, but unable to solve the problem. Spending another couple of hundred for sensors was their only solution. They did offer a discount on the sensors (which I haven’t received yet, but still hopeful they deliver on that offer). I am a new older female golfer and the watch does work properly for my husband, so it’s likely my swing speed. I doubt I’m that unusual a demographic though so not sure why they don’t fix it or at least disclose it. I’m keeping the watch because I do love it and am okay tracking manually. Returned under warranty.
1 August 2023

Posted earlier that I had issues wearing the watch on the inside of my wrist and had no response from Garmin. Finally, got an email and eventually talked with a Garmin rep. If the watch worked as well as their rep, I wouldn’t have any problems. Unfortunately, nothing he tried worked and I’ve discovered another short coming of this watch - using it in damp weather causes it to go completely haywire. I played 9 holes and scores were posted for all 18, with many of the front nine scores having been changed. The distances have been as much as 30 yards off. This may be water resistant, but it is affected by moisture.I’ve returned it under warranty because TGW won’t accept returns once you’ve worn it.

I got this watch as a gift to my boyfriend for his birthday week-long golfing trip to Orlando, and he loved it! Within a half hour, he had it set up for the course he'd be playing, and by the end of time he finished his first 18 holes the next day, he had mastered it. Also, he checked the accuracy against someone in his foursome who was using a scope, and he found the watch to be right in sync. Plus, le liked that it had other functionality such as pushing news updates, but only while he was not on the course. All in all, this watch was such an improvement over having to constantly pull out and wake up his phone while playing. And the battery life was fantastic as well. Oh, and the presentation of the gift box was also great. Best golf birthday present ever!

My main issue with this watch centers around the capacitive touch display. I wear the watch on the inside of my wrist and doing so causes the display to change/scroll by itself. (I don’t know how or why, just that it does and it’s very irritating.) I’ve had it scroll to the pin location screen and alter the location of the flag without being aware of it. Just to experiment, I tried wearing it on the outside of my wrist and everything seems to work fine.Another issue revolves around the yardages displayed. Most of the time their fairly accurate, but at times their as much as 30 yards off. I no longer trust this watch for approach distances and use a range finder - way too many shots come up short or fly the green only to find out the yardages were 20-30 yards ... MoreMy main issue with this watch centers around the capacitive touch display. I’m sure a five year old could figure it out without difficulty, but I’m forced to go online to figure out how to change some of the settings and to troubleshoot issues that I wouldn’t have expected to have. The watch appears to be well made, though some of the features seem really gimmicky.Personally, I’d send it back, but since I’ve worn it TGW won’t take it back and since it’s not considered defective the warranty won’t cover it.I’ve tried contacting Garmin on three separate occasions regarding the issues with this device without reply. Don’t believe the reply from Jenny, Garmin has shown absolutely no interest in discussing this further.
