I am new to cycling and wanted a computer that would help me navigate in unfamiliar areas. This little guy is great for generating new routes or downloading from outside sources. The battery lasts forever. I wanted a unit that would notify my contact if I crashed. I can say it works well for that, unfortunately. I tried to turn the alert off but the screen wouldn’t respond to my touch. I do think it was user error, this little thing tracks everything! Probably much more information than I need but I hope to get to that level some day and didn’t want to have to buy another gadget.

I had mine for about two years now it’s a huge step up from my old 800 that I used till the battery died and wouldn’t charge anymore. It works great most of the time. Like most Tec when it doesn’t it is a problem that causes one just to scratch their head. I used my that set up with North American maps in Europe last year without a hitch. Just purchased the appropriate map set from GARMIN and fallowed the instructions to swap out the maps it all worked like a Charm. Reversed the process when I returned that’s all.Problem I’ve had it stopped letting me load routes once. It was caused by having too many saved routes on the unit just went into history and removed all but a few. No problems since. Even while keeping room in the memory it takes 2 to 3 tries to move a route from my GARMIN connect app IPhone 12 to the 830. Get a message the unit is busy this happens even the kitchen counter in my house. I set the route to transfer through GARMIN Connect get the message there it’s ready for transfer next time I connect my 830 to the App and get the message my 830 is busy and to try again. This happens with both units just sitting next to each other on my counter. I have removed my 830 from my phone a pair it again and still have the problem. But then all at once it works and all is well

I was in a toss up a year ago - wahoo vs Garmin. I went with the Wahoo and was happy with it. The buttons are nice for the control - setup easy on app.But I had a chance to get the 830 to try it out. Over the last year, I bought Garmin Rally pedals- and some of the data was only available on a Garmin head unit. Garmin Varia. Garmin HRM. They all did work fine on the Wahoo but I became more interested in the extra data - as I didn’t know what I wasn’t seeing. Was it worth the $$? This is a great device when it works. I have used garmin 820, 530, with no problems ever. I don’t know if this problem is all 830 or just mine, I’m pretty sure it isn’t human error. I don’t if it’s hardware or software. For the last few months , in Arizona and in Utah, the 830 would work great for a day or so. Then I would go out riding and it would never find any gps signals, always showing two bars in signal strength. The only way to fix it was to a system reset, kind of a pain and a long time. This has happened over and over. I have the mountain bike package. Wish I knew what was wrong. It’s nice when I get a signal. Tough to get it fixed, I don’t know of any garmin repair shops, lol. Help!

By the time I got the 830 it was amazing I loved it, but not so long after I’ve start facing issues, the very first was that it was no connecting to my wahoo trainer I understand is a different brand (although other Garmins did connect perfectly) so I let it got and use my computer to set my different trainings.Some months ago I’ve start facing the problem that the Garmin would disconnect randomly from my sensors (HR, Speed, cadence, power, etc) but after a while it would reconnect.I made sure the firmware was the last one, change battery in all my sensors but it was the same scenario. Looking forward for my replacement (either a 840 or 1040), but definitely I will continue to be a Garmin user.

I bought it as a bundle which it came with the Varia radar/light.Edge 830 has an overwhelming amount of features that I feel that I haven’t used to its full potential. I’m not going into the details because it will take forever but it has helped to navigate routes, it warms me of upcoming sharp turns, picks up the upcoming climbs and displays the grade and length remaining of the specific climb I am currently on, data fields are customized to your liking, it offer customized workouts that you can do either outdoor or in your smart trainer. It doesn’t seem to connect to WiFi so far. I’ve played with it a bit to try to get it to looking online and trying Garmin Express and other tricks but so far no luck. I've been using edge 830 along with my cell phone mounted on my handlebars. I really wanted to use the edge alone but have found that the mapping capabilities are very poor compared to the phone apps such as Komodo and Strava for navigation. It seems the GPS or something in the Garmin often tells me that it's off course when I'm not and the cell phone app doesn't fail in maintaining the course. Besides the navigation issues, the Garmin seems well built and does mostly what it's supposed to do. At this point, I'm wondering if I could have achieved everything that I wanted to do with only the cell phone connecting to my cadence speed and radar tail light without the expense of having bought the Garmin edge 830.
My last garmin was the Edge 530 and this a quantum leap better! I belong to 2 bike clubs and frequently go on new routes in areas that I'm unfamiliar with. The navigation features customized fields and also customizable sizing. So I'm able to put the next turn on top which shows me the street name and the distance to that point. Paired with Strava's verbal cues its almost impossible to get lost. Syncing with heart monitor and cadence is dummy friendly and I image the power meter is too (next on my list..). Reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it wouldn't upload my ebike ride to strava (I selected "red" which is an "acoustic Roubaix" instead of "blue" which is my Creo ebike).
