After a fair bit of online research I took the plunge and ordered the 830 Edge as an upgrade to my trusty 520. Sigma delivered it in super quick time, thanks guys!Out of the box, the 830 is a great piece of kit. Seamlessly picked up my existing speed, cadence and Vector 3 pedal sensors, and hooked up with my iPhone XR and Garmin Connect account straight away. It's early days and I've only taken it for a couple of short rides, but so far, I'm impressed. Creating new routes in Connect and mapping them to the head unit is a piece of cake, and turn-by-turn navigation with the touch-screen on the bike is good - a real step up from the 520. Overall, I'm a very happy chap!

I'm new to Garmin GPS devices so I cannot compare to existing devices. The Garmin 830 is a great GPS device in my opinion once you have learned the functionality of it. The documentation is OK for setup but learning the device will take some time on the road using it and maybe a youtube video. Quick tip, the start and stop button are on the bottom right side of the device next to the charger port. I spent about 20 minutes pressing the touch screen play button trying to get it to start recording before i realized you have to press a mechanical button to start and stop your ride recording. Little odd in my opinion for a touch screen but this is their design.Setup was not overly complicated but took me, newbie, about an hour to get the components hooked up to my bike ... MoreI'm new to Garmin GPS devices so I cannot compare to existing devices. You will need to setup your Garmin accounts and devices using their user friendly mobile app.On the road it has gone though about 12 hours of rides over the course of 3 weeks and barely scratched using 30% of the battery. Not bad in my opinion. All of my results sync up with my phone after the ride using Garmin Connect and those will automatically post to Strava once you have linked your account.Overall very happy with the device.

My old android phone (Sony Xperia with ANT+) that I've been using with the ipbike app finally needed replacing and so I decided to go with the Garmin 830.It picks up my sensors no problem (speed, cadence and AXS gears) just like the phone did. Due to the smaller screen I've had to put a few data fields onto separate views and annoyingly there's no way to have data fields in different colours for easier recognition with a quick glance. The clarity of mapping is nowhere near as good as Google maps. But on a positive note it does give turn by turn directions. The device connects fine to wifi and uploads rides no problem. Also downloads workouts from Kudo Coach just fine. This will come in handy for trips to hilly parts of the country once lockdown ends.
I’ve had my Edge 830 for a couple months now and really, really like the features. I come from over a decade of using multiple Garmin devices so it’s hard for me to comment on any potential user interface quirks as I’m quite used to it.I use the Workout feature nearly every day and love it. This is where you create the workout with Garmin Connect and upload it to the Edge. Then do the workout with the unit on your bike. There is something I think may have been overlooked here: In Settings, I have it set to automatically stop the timer if I get to a red light and resume when I start moving. However, in Workout mode the timer just keeps rolling at stop lights. Mildly irritating.I also like the Climb Pro screen. It’s nice to know there’s an eventual end to some of the relentless climbs ;)The wifi/Bluetooth data transfers are much faster than they used to be!Overall, I am (nearly) completely happy with this unit.
I upgraded to the Edge 830 and have owned 3 previous Garmin bike computers. I wish I had kept my previous Garmin. The new feature that is handy is the ability to see text messages. But the display is not stable. It periodically changes the selected display. Without touching the display it swaps the time of day and speed etc. The other issue is turning the devise off. It is a three step process. Stop, save and depower if your lucky. Occasionally it adds unlock making it a 4 step process. ANNOYING...
I’ve owned both Garmin and Wahoo bike computers in the past. My last was a Wahoo Bolt, the battery eventually became unreliable so it was time for a new computer. Everyone seemed to be getting the Garmin 830 so I thought I’d give it another go. Within about 5 minutes of trying to set it up I remembered why I went off Garmin the last time, put it back in the box and returned it for another Bolt. Garmin is so clunky by comparison, fiddly, unclear, you have to think hard to set it up. The bolt on the other hand is all done on the app and way more intuitive as a result. How Garmin remain the leader without this type of set up is beyond me. They really need to up their game IMO.
I updated my Garmin Edge 1000 that I had for the last four years or so, as the Edge 830 had more functionality that suits my riding. The one thing that stands out head and shoulders over the Edge 1000 tho is the quality of the screen, even on the sunniest of days it’s extremely clear and easy to read, even tho it’s smaller in size than the Edge 1000. The device loads a lot faster and uploads your rides very quickly indeed. I have also found the battery life to be far superior! There’s some great functions within the device too many to mention, however the graph showing what ascents are coming up is great, it allows you to better judge your efforts across your ride. If you have been happy with a previous Garmin cycle computer you wouldn’t be disappointed in this ... MoreI updated my Garmin Edge 1000 that I had for the last four years or so, as the Edge 830 had more functionality that suits my riding. I considered the 530 however the software is clearly designed for touchscreen operation and it so far has functioned smoothly. You could of course go for the more expensive Edge 1030, however this device will do everything you will probably need and do it well.
Recently purchased this computer after using non-GPS computer previously. I've been very pleasantly surprised with how easy unit was to set up, link up with Strava and use. I feared having to deal with so many detailed menus, but really it has been painfree. Still haven't worked my way through all the many features, but what I have so far, has been excellent. Been fantastic to set up a few display screens with different info that ranges from very important (Speed, Cadence and Heartrate) on 1st screen to averages of these as well as ascent, descent, time etc on a second screen.Love that starred segments appear automatically - though would have been good if the Garmin time isn't overuled by Strava for PR's.I'm sure the Edge 530 buttons would be good and simple to ... MoreRecently purchased this computer after using non-GPS computer previously. Excellent product. Really takes the outdoor ride to the next level. Ive been really excited about indoor training and the ability to see all my metrics and now I can transfer this joy outside. My favourite features are that I get turn by turn GPS navigation. Better still, if I lose track and miss a turning the edge 830 will work to re-route you on the fly. This is amazing. Hooks up to all my favourite sensors (Heart Rate, cadence, power meter) and would highly recommend to any cyclist of any level .
