I LOVE my Garmin Fenix 5S Sapphire. I spent months researching which watch I would want for my activity, and as someone who spends a lot of time on trails and climbing approaches, I wanted something more rugged that would provide good data and GPS, not necessarily a bunch of notifications from my phone. The Garmin Fenix meets these requirements, and most of all, I love that I can customize which notifications I see from my phone (which, for me, is none). The battery life is great, and the watch controls are mostly intuitive. I wear this thing ALL the time, and the white with gold is really fashionable, so it makes for a great accessory too. Highly recommended!

Terrific. Serious GPS; smartwatch. Built in helth monitors works flawlessly. Ability to add watch faces and apps a big plus. It is the same size as my luminox, and weighs less. Can get 2 days on 1 charge without throttling down. Beats pants off of apple and samsung frontier. Water resist 100 meters. Use for running, the gym, and sailing. You need this watch.

I have the Fenix 3 (non-HR version) and love it. It was too big for my wife so I was super excited to give her the Fenix 5s when it came out. She had an older Garmin running watch but the additional features of the Fenix made it very appealing. Upon opening the box, we weren't disappointed! It's super cool looking, the turquoise band adds a feminine flair and the polished silver accents really dress it up. Set up was very simple and adding it to her Garmin Express / Connect app was super easy.HOWEVER. In the first full day of use, the battery is draining incredibly fast, just wearing it. No running, GPS connection, etc. It was fully charged when she went to bed last night and woke up with it at 40%. I've turned off everything I know of that uses extra battery ... MoreI have the Fenix 3 (non-HR version) and love it. I've turned off everything I know of that uses extra battery (i.e. SmartNotifications) and it's still training 1% every five minutes. I haven't been able to find many helpful articles yet, but I'm hoping there is a new software update soon. Based on other positive reviews at REI, I'm wondering if we just got a faulty unit. Going to give it another week or two, but if we can't fix it, it's essentially unusable.I really wanted to give a great review because she was so excited to have the updated watch. But, when you're having to pay so much attention to whether or not you have enough battery to make it past lunch, the fun goes away.

I've had 2 Garmin 630 Forerunners. I loved the watch but some functions, such as lactic threshold and VO2 max never worked right. Also, both watches broke within a year. I decided not to try another Forerunner and went with the new Fenix 5 after reading reviews. Everything that was new and perhaps not quite working in my Forerunner function well in the Fenix. As an endurance athlete, it no longer says my VO2 max is "very poor". Also, you can race a virtual partner without having to download a training plan (and then still often having it not work.) This watch has wrist based heart rate monitoring that I expected to dislike. The watch is much thinner and lighter so you don't notice it and the heart rate is surprisingly accurate. The watch is much thinner and lighter so you don't notice it and the heart rate is surprisingly accurate. Plus, you can still pair it with a strap. As it now tracks skiing, you don't have to pull a glove off every time you want to play with the watch that Way. I was tempted to get the Fenix with wifi, but this one automatically uploads to Garmin Connect anyway, there is no fighting to get it to sync. Besides, how after are you without a phone anyway? Have local network, have upload/download ability.
I love this smartwatch. I never take it off unless I have to and it has helped me with just about any sport and also health metric I want to track. About the only thing I would change about the purchase is I wish I'd have bought the one with good for diving since I am taking that sport up again but all else is just great. I splurged on the better crystal since I am hard on watches and true to form three years later there isn't a scratch on it.
I've owned/worn a few Garmin watches over the past 10 years and it's wonderful that they have finally produced one that looks feminine! The Fenix 5S is also the most straightforward to use out of all of the ones I have owned. The Garmin connect app is also fantastic and so helpful to track my daily activity - exercise plus steps- and sleep patterns. The sync connection can sometimes take awhile, but a simple power off and back on of either the phone or watch and I'm up and running again :). Amazing watch with so many fitness tracking options and well worth the money to have a sports/dress watch all in one!
Finally! My two year search for the perfect fitness device is over. I tried 4 different Fitbit devices and the Apple Watch II. Nothing tracked my activities the way I wanted and were not waterproof or battery needed recharging everyday. I waited for this watch to get released and it does everything I need! GPS tracks my runs and give me so many different stats about the run that I am able to improve my running. The list of activities that this tracks is amazing. Love the feature of creating a course online then sending it to the device to guide you through a run. The heart rate monitor is much more accurate than any of my fitbits. They would say my heart rate would be 210+ during my runs. That is insane for a healthy 25 year old. The garmin holds the heart rate ... MoreFinally! They would say my heart rate would be 210+ during my runs. That is insane for a healthy 25 year old. The garmin holds the heart rate around 150 during the same run. Much more reasonable. I thought I would miss a touch screen but actually love the buttons instead. Keeps the screen cleaner and very easy to navigate. The notifications from my phone are better too than other competitors. This brings in any notification your phone gets from any app. Also, once you read the notification on your phone it goes away on the garmin too so you don't have a list of old notifications built up on the watch. Battery lasts a good week even with a few hours of GPS tracking my runs. There isn't anything I don't like about this Watch. Not to mention, it looks really good even on my small wrist!
And it does everything I wanted in a watch for multi sport activities plus a super accurate optical HR, which was critical. As a 5'3" female, the 5s fits my wrist perfectly and it's not too heavy for all around wearability. I like "boyfriend" size watches. The buttons are responsive to touch when on the run and it is very easy to read. I particularly like the altimeter for hikes as well as the aforementioned HR.This watch has far more features than I will ever use, but it does critical things so well it was worth the money to me. I am still learning the watch features. I'm not missing the wi-fi and thought I would. My husband purchased this watch for me to replace my garmin 235 so that I could have more activity options. First off, watch is much heavier but more comfortable. I used it for a week and a half and my stats did not seem right, especially my heart rate. Therefore I used my husbands Garmin on my other wrist and mine was consistently lower by 20-25 bpm. Husband returned it to MEC and they tested two other Garmin 5S in store and same problem. This watch should be recalled, don't waste your hard earned money on this watch. I wish I wouldn't have sold my old Garmin 235, that watch never let down!
This is the best GPS watch you can buy as of writting this. I've had it since march and it doesn't disapppoint. Use it as a running watch with the optical heart rate (I find it highly accurate). Also as a bike computer (I mount if on the handle bars and use a HR chest strap). The Fenix 5s takes in data from a polat hr strap and a stages power meter seamlessly. Tracks my sleep and steps and sends it all to healthkit on iOS. I also bought some third part straps on amazon for wwhen I want to wear business casual. These one star reviews are bogus.
