I searched for this watch everywhere, online and at stores. Finally found it at a brick and mortar location. My goal was to get the Fénix 7x sapphire solar but that was not available so purchased the 7 solar. It is a very nice looking watch with loads of features. The information it provides is more than sufficient and similar to an Apple Watch (own one of these as well). The let down, and probably a reason not to spend the extra cash, is the solar feature. There obviously is no reliable information on how much the device benefits from this type of charging as circumstances vary per user, but it does seem, from several reviews (read and watched), that the charging from the solar source is at best minimal on a very sunny day. The sapphire upgrade is another option that seems unnecessary, again per reviews from different sources, as the screen that the normal watch comes with is good enough. Other than that it is an excellent watch with, what is one of the best features so far, a single battery charge that lasts at least a 7 to 9 days depending on usage. The touch screen is also convenient when you are used to a smart watch like the Apple device, and it makes scrolling easier when searching for options. Right now still excited with the purchase, although it is quite expensive, but would still like to try the 7x for the screen and battery size.

I received this watch as a birthday present and was pleasantly surprised! There are way more features on this watch than what I will ever need but that gives room for more options. I did my research on this product by watching YouTube videos on the watch and despite some criticism on the dark display of the Sapphire FENIX solar, I find it very good. I can still see the display without ālighting it upā and if needed, if I can illuminate it by touching the watch face. I like having the option of changing the watch display to various analog or digital displays to what suits my fancy. The watch has a battery life of 28 days full charge and can be āsupplementedā by solar power during daylight hours. So to start, I changed over from an Apple Watch because the battery on the Apple Watch wouldnāt even last 8 hours towards the end. Then it just died and when I took it in they said it was dead and I could pay full price to have Apple send me a refurb one. So that ended my Apple Watch wearing.I changed over to an instinct solar and liked it but it didnāt have the full screen due to the circle in the corner and it had a plastic back. It would occasionally cause an issue with my wrist so I was able to trade it in and get credit towards a new fenix 7.So now on to the fenix 7. First impression was that it is heavier and extremely well built. The size and weight donāt bother me in the least. Iām a big person and it looks completely normal on my wrist. There is a ton of functionality that I probably donāt use on it. But it is worth everything I paid for it.The two negatives I have are small. First, it will disconnect and reconnect when it is within a few feet of my phone occasionally and intermittently. This could also be a cause of my phone because it is acting a little different with the recent software upgrades so this negative may not even be the watchās fault. Second, I wish you could reply to text messages from the Watch. Even if it were canned responses like yes, no, Iāll call you in a minuteā¦ā¦or something. Thatās not a huge negative and I knew about that before I got it so I knew going in I couldnāt. I still love the watch. If youāre looking at one Iād definitely consider it. Mine has 16 days of battery life from a charge. Iām not sure if the solar would be worth it in the fenix 7. Same with the crystal face, I donāt know if Iād upgrade to that because of the darkness of the display with the crystal face. Either way if you decide on a fenix 7 I think you will be extremely happy. I know I am.

Most of the reviews I've seen of the Fenix 7 Solar Sapphire compare this watch with the previous Fenix 6 or with the current Epix 2. Well, I'm not one of those guys who keeps up with the latest Garmin watch, so reviews of incremental improvements are not useful for me. For 10 years I have loved my old Garmin Forerunner 920XT and it has met most of my needs. But I've been BLOWN AWAY by how advanced the new Fenix 7 is. Its battery life is light years ahead of my old watch. The sleep monitoring and SP02 monitoring are very valuable to me since I live at 7,000' elevation and my sleep quality is compromised. I'm currently prepping to thru-hike the Colorado Trail this summer and was looking for a watch that won't need constant recharging on the trail. The solar recharging seems very effective so far, but I'm still putting that feature through its paces. I opted for the Sapphire version due to how scratched my previous watch face became. The Fenix is a beautiful watch and looks very classy when I need that. So far I'm a huge fan.
I've been a fitness freak all my adult life (now 47!) and moved from Garmin (910XT) to Suunto after issues with the old one. Now it's clear that Suunto has sadly fallen too far behind and this is the one to buy. While i already regularly trail run, open water swim, surf, cycle, etc I'm planning to do an ultra marathon in Jan 2024.Firstly the appearance when you open it; the watch looks fantastic with a perfect size (fairly slim wrists on me) and it's very comfortable too. Then the battery life; it's superb. And the apps; you really can do almost anything with this device. I've got tide times, surf forecasts and I can track almost everything I do. Are you an athlete looking to stay on track with your athletic goals? I am a huge Garmin fan, and the moment this watch was available I jumped at the chance to use it! Bought this watch after seeing a business partner wear/use hers. My early impression is that it's extremely capable, particularly if you can figure out/have someone show you the Connect App. I'm now wearing mine everyday and really like it. The biggest challenge, like most Garmin products, is the steep learning curve, particularly if you're not digitally or tech savvy. It'll frustrate you on what buttons I should push to get to the right menu. You'll screw it up more than a few times, yet I've become sufficiently capable for now. Need to continue to learn about other features. Wish Garmin offered a series of 101-102-103-201 level courses with videos and step-by-step instructions to change faces, add apps, and begin to grow your usage. It's TOO EXPENSIVE to be a toy, get left behind, and not used and it will seriously dilute my perception of Garmin if they can't invest in customer success after the sale and not just the upfront transaction. I own several Garmin products and estimate that I'm using about 10% of what each is capable of, i.e. inReach!! Time for Garmin to step up on this front. Otherwise, like and use the watch. Thanks
I purchased this 2 months ago replacing my Suunto Ambit 2. This is a big upgrade for sure. Overall I am still learning how to use it. Part of the problem with all new electronics is it has more features that you can use, or realize. So here is a brief overview: Using it for mountaineering, super fast and accurate GPS. Nice to have the maps preloaded. Since the screen is still a watch, you have to learn how to zoom in and out while the screen is locked. The specific screens are totally customizable and thus very helpful but takes a bit of time to set it all up. I so far do not think much of the solar...does not really seem to make much of a difference in battery life. Speaking of the battery, overall really good considering the features that use energy. The specific screens are totally customizable and thus very helpful but takes a bit of time to set it all up. I so far do not think much of the solar...does not really seem to make much of a difference in battery life. Speaking of the battery, overall really good considering the features that use energy. The heart rate monitor is OK, not always correct. At the beginning of a climb I will be working really hard at altitude and it shows a walking heart rate. Over time, and in certain positions, seems to "catch up". I really like the feature of automatically using the map elevation to set the altimeter when starting a climb. Seems like the elevation gain and loss is still dependent on how windy it is, which changes the pressure and thus adds elevation gain.So at present seems to be working well, I am able to use it and customize it, but it does take work to learn and set it up for your liking. My biggest negative is the watch face should be more easy to read, without using the back light. I think this will improve but at present kind of hard if not in bright light. Won't give it 5 stars until I use it for much longer and see if it continues to hold up.
Iāve been trail running for about 5 years, but was happy with my basic fitness tracker. I chatted with a number of runners about their watches, all had great things to say about the data and insights from the two leading brands. IMO what gave Garmin the edge was they make airplane navigational equipment, the other brandāsā claim to fame is the battery life. I donāt do 40 hour ultras. Fenix 7 had almost all the advanced functions and long(er) battery life. The interface took about a week to really āgetā and itās been great to customize to make the watch work even more for me. Bummer they donāt have Sapphire glass on standard Fenix, but I got a screen protector on Amazon for a few bucks. I would have been tempted for more advanced models if they too had the silver body, I didnāt want a giant military looking watch to wear at work. Iām really happy with this investment, wear it all day and hope it will last 5+ years.
I returned the Epix 2 and got the Fenix 7. When I first used the Epix 2, I was astonished by the quality of the display. I have been using the Fenix series for a few years and the Epix 2 display is totally next level. However, in practical use on my bicycle, the display times-out and goes dim. If you're a runner or swimmer, it's a great watch because a wrist gesture will bring it to 100% brightness. But I was told by Garmin tech support that a feature of the Epix 2 is to go auto-dim after some time to prevent image burn-in. So on a sunny bike ride with the Epix mounted on my bike, the display went dark enough that I couldn't read it comfortably while wearing shades. I would have to "shake" the handlebar to wake it up, creating a wrist gesture while riding. Garmin ...Ā MoreI returned the Epix 2 and got the Fenix 7. I'm used to the quirks of the Fenix display so I'm happier overall. The Epix 2 is truly stunning but I need my watch to be visible during long rides. Overall, the Epix 2 and Fenix 7 are wonderful upgrades. I wish the titanium-colored bezel of the Fenix 6 was available as a color option.
