My previous watch was a Garmin vivo active 4 which I liked but the battery life got worse over the years. If you purchase it, make sure you watch some Youtube videos to discover all its functions and you should also download the user guide for step-by-step instructions. It even measures your EKG! If you want to get the very most out of this watch, you should spend at least couple of hours if not more to learn everything this watch does. The built quality is top notch! I think I will keep this watch for MANY MANY YEARS!!!!Thank you Garmin for giving me exactly what I wanted! Keep up the good work and PLEASE do NOT get inspired by Apple. Before purchasing it, I did my research and watched so many reviews on YouTube before making my final decision. To be honest, I was going to buy the Apple Watch Ultra but i’m glad that i didn’t because to me, the built quality is excellent! I was already drawn to this watch as if i’m meant to own this. Sure, the screen is not crystal clear like those Amoled or OLED. Although it would be nice to have them but for what it’s built for, i don’t think i need a beautiful Amoled screen. This is both a review of my Fenix 7X and a customer service at Garmin. To start off, this device is really been an amazing device. I am so accustomed to the flashlight that it's hard to not have it on my wrist at all times. The stress tracking is relatively accurate, more than I expected it to be. I have PTSD and the stress tracking is generally able to log when I've had an episode. This is one of the main functions I bought the watch for and even though it is not advertised it has done that with about 90% accuracy. The sleep tracking is extremely useful, the sapphire crystal is nearly indestructible and I can say that honestly because I work as a handyman and never take it off at work. I would say the only negative I have had is related to the silicone band that it came with which broke. When the band broke the watch fell off my wrist and the button stopped working correctly. The thing I was most impressed by is that when I called Garmin, they not only immediately handled my warranty claim but sent me a brand new watch sealed in the box with 2-day shipping at absolutely no cost to me. I normally don't write reviews, but this was truly exceptional and has made me a lifelong Garmin fan. My next smartwatch will be a Garmin. That's a little pricey, yes. I will never be without a high-end Garmen watch again because of how useful it is to my specific circumstances.

My experience with this watch has been terrible. Initially I was targeting with this watch because I am a surfer. If you are a surfer no not buy this watch. The back button and this button to get to the ring will just stop working. Currently I am on my second watch and it’s doing the same thing my first watch did. What is it doing you may ask? Well, both times the back button and button to get to the rink of options just stopped working. Sometimes this watch is a Mormon, it loves soaking. If you soak it in lubricated water, then maybe, just maybe the next day it will work. I love paying $800+ for a watch that I have to soak after I do my favorite sport just to get it to work properly. A flight of stairs is worth an amazing 120 calories! At this rate, I should be about 35lbs (skeletal weight only).I guess the good news there is that sometimes, the active calorie count reduces! I just watched it go from 142 down to 138, then start 'toggling' between 139 and 140. Mind you, I've been at my desk the entire time - so aside from maybe 15-20 'active calories' to go downstairs and make some tea... these numbers themselves don't even make any sense.With so much of the functionality (at least for me) stemming from the HRM and 'active calorie count' (which, btw is only 'sometimes' actually 'active ... You have to just use your phone as the source people… Save the music app and download another face… That also goes up quick being your only limited to 25-30 data points or apps.. Needs more memory, all of a sudden we’re back to the original MP3 player.. I could bring up more issues, but as for the build quality.. it’s below average… the top right corner button constantly sticks and is inaccurate to the commands.. all buttons are very sticky, but this one does not work.. Also around the corners of the week face, when I wear to sleep, the corners of the Watch where the lugs or screws sit, I get fabric hairs from sheets rubbing underneath the front face.. it’s like the bezel is not screwed down tight and the edges catch.. had to use tweezers to get “hairs” outta front case bezel… The Solar charging and the flashlight are very gimmicky, Amd then lastly the screen is terribly bad at reading colors it seems as off most color shades are all about the same except the green blue or red… (standard color spectrum). I do have a replacement coming set aside all these problems. Hopefully, Garmin gets it right……….Eventually they may.. With that being said of the review, REI did make it right with a few gift cards to their store for the shipping issues, takes like 6-8 days to receive, due to a battery being in Watch they send standard ground… PERIOD..REI did send me a open box item… sold as new. That was no bueno as well!! BUT, again made good with the issues we are experiencing and gave us a percentage off the purchase.. Cushioning the purchase, we have decided to keep good with REI,MAD PROPS TO REI’s service!! and riding out the storm with Garmin, as they continue to make tiny steps in the overall software development of their devices…PS- no watch faces transfer over to the new device if you need to replace.. Only your health data transfers over… So all your apps widgets or faces need to all be reinstalled and reconfigured.. gotta figure a way to save that into the connect app or connectQ, backup and sync data… ya know..But hey… MORE MONEY.. MORE PROBLEMS.
I have now had my watch for about a month. This replaced an apple watch when i made the switch back to android. First off, the battery life is outstanding. I'm very happy I went with the solar model and the Sapphire glass has been very durable. So far all of the features (which I'm still learning about new stuff every day) have worked exactly as planned. the GPS functions are first class like all Garmin products. I have used the watch weekly for golf and that works as well as the dedicated golf watches. I have also used the watch for sleep tracking and even GPS navigation in my SxS and had perfect results. I went into this model knowing that it had a different (not as bright screen), But I had no way of seeing the actual screen in person before turning on the watch which is too late. The pictures of the watch face online show a much brighter watch face more like my previous watch. That is my only issue so far and am otherwise very happy with this purchase.

Garmin Fenix 7 Saphire Solar - well it's pretty much the most expensive smart watch that I looked at, and I hoped it would exceed my expectations as a result. The positives are it's a great looking stylish watch with innumerable configurable watch faces so you can go classic, digital or even have a photo of a loved one as the background. It has immense battery life, a really bright built in torch that I've found useful several times already (you just double click a button and boom you have serious light), gives feedback on sleep, heartrate and heartrate variability and steps taken, etc. It tracks all the sports I do and my version came with both a chunky leather and flexible rubber strap. I'm not sure the leather would like my regular swimming, plus it's not the ... I'm not sure the leather would like my regular swimming, plus it's not the sort of strap you'd want to be taking on and off frequently due to its stiffness, so I'm sticking with the decent looking grey rubber one for now. Garmin menus have never been particularly intuitive for me (I've had a couple of forerunners and bike navigation devices), and that is no different here. It's frustrating that you can't make and take calls on your watch (there's no built in microphone) nor can you use it to remotely control your camera (there's an app but it compresses and saves the pictures to your watch) like an apple watch can. So for the price I'm a little disappointed but think it's the best out there currently for what I need it for (mainly tracking walking, swimming, running and cycling) as well as monitoring my sleep and overall health. If the Fenix 8 adds an OLED display and you can use it to make calls from then that would be a big step forward.
