Garmin Jumped the shark with this one. The AMOLED display that reviewrs seem to be raving about as being as good as MIP in bright sunlight was again too hard to read in the bright Tucson sun and I had to stop my run and adjust my body to be able to see where I was going on the map page. The map page itself is laggy and takes too long to adjust to the direction you are headed in. For a watch that costs upwards of $1100 bucks, it feels like this was rushed out to launch before the big UTMB race. On the plus side the build quality feels like 3 steps up from the Fenix 7. The metrics garmin has and their accuracy are fantastic. The app, both phone and online are top notch. The features are beyond what any competitor offers, but its just too much. too many menus, too much faffing about when Im just trying to run and dont want to have to spend a week dialing in settings and the exact number of data pages I want for each of my activities. The UI is no where near intuitive. Just not for me. Im going back to my Suunto Vertical

Upgraded from my Fenix 6X. This is my 5th Garmin watch. Love the watch and have not experienced any of the issues noted in other reviews. Quickly connected to my iPhone and Garmin account.Initially could not download any third party watch faces but after updating the firmware have downloaded several. I do agree that the stock Garmin watch faces are a bit small font and hard to read but with the large selection of third party faces easy to change. I usually run on a biking/running trail that is mostly tree covered. Looking at my course maps after a run this watch tracks much more accurate to the trail vs the 6X. The 6X shown course i ran often would deviate off the actual course due to the tree covered. This watch tracks much closer to the actual course with no jagged deviations off the trail path.While I knew this watch had a flashlight built in I didn’t realize how handy this is until we lost power for 30 hours caused by remnants of hurricane helene. Dang it is a bright flash lite. And the ability to adjust brightness and use red light at night is great.I had considered switching to an Apple Ultra 2 as so many people I know are sporting them. And I am all Apple with phones and computers. But love the Garmin system for health and exercise tracking, and very happy with my choice to buy this watch. It’s an expensive watch, but worth it to me. For those who say it’s too expensive don’t buy it. Get a forerunner or something less costly.

I am probably representing a small subset of users who switch to this, as I had the Epix Pro 2, which is essentially the same hardware as the Fenix 8, but without the dive or voice features - neither of which I'm likely to use. I watched multiple reviews, tried to talk myself out of getting it, but wasn't able to. I decided to 'let' myself buy it, knowing REI had a great return policy, and was truly expecting to return it a few days later.But after 1 day, I switched to the Fenix 8, and sold my Epix 2 on ebay. Why ? This is going to sound silly, but it looks a lot better. I had the white Epix 2, and the only band you could wear with that reasonably was the white band. I wanted to switch up the colors. This orange is gorgeous, and paired with the timeflies watch ... Because the hardware is the same, the accuracy is the same as the epix (top of the line - far better than the apple watch ultra 2 for instance !) The battery life seems a little better too, which isn't supposed to be the case, but it is definitely lasting longer for me than the Epix 2 pro did.Did I need this, no, but do I love this, yes ! 5 stars so far.
I mainly cycle and have used a Garmin Edge 1040 for biking since the new year. Then I started swimming more and was using a Garmin Swim 2 as well. The Swim 2 was alright, but I just wasn't satisfied with it for all day use, so upgraded to the Fenix 8 a couple weeks ago.I absolutely love it so far. I've used it for swimming, hiking and running and it has worked perfectly. It seems to have an easier time tracking laps in the pools compared to the Swim 2.The flashlight is a game changer! I have seen a lot of people talking about glitches and bugs, but I haven't had any issues. It connects to my GarminConnect app without issue and works fine with Garmin Express, too. Overpriced for what you get, the additional features that were introduced with this watch are not very helpful, the speaker is WAY too quiet, the voice assistant is almost laughably slow! By the time it actually processes your request you could’ve done what you were telling it to do far quicker. BUGGY! And that AFTER the most recent updates too! I was doing a run alongside the Cors Pace Pro comparing them and the Fenix froze and I had to get it back on the charger at home to get it to respond at all. MoreOverpriced for what you get, the additional features that were introduced with this watch are not very helpful, the speaker is WAY too quiet, the voice assistant is almost laughably slow! By the time it actually processes your request you could’ve done what you were telling it to do far quicker. BUGGY! And that AFTER the most recent updates too! I was doing a run alongside the Cors Pace Pro comparing them and the Fenix froze and I had to get it back on the charger at home to get it to respond at all. I bought the Fenix 8 and for two months tried to make it work but ultimately had to return it today. After being a long time Garmin user, I’m now switching to the Apple Ultra 2 despite its much shorter battery life. Why?First, this is the least reliable piece of electronics I’ve ever owned across any device of any category. The software bugs, despite all the cleanup Garmin has been trying to do since the watch was launched in August are still highly prevalent across the device. Weather app showing wrong temperature despite being synced correctly to phone.5. Microphone on a phone call produced a crackling to the person on the other end forcing me to need to switch to my iPhone.Second, the watch is $1,100. This is extremely expensive relative to other sports watches even if everything works. And given the poor state of the software it’s certainly not worth it (not to mention the processor hardware is slow and struggles to keep up; the processor really needs an update).I strongly recommend others save their money for another watch. I encourage you to check out the recent “HikingGuy” YouTube video if you want to see an expert’s opinion that is parallel to mine.

The Fenix and closely-related Epix lines are renowned for their functionality, accuracy and, in the case of the Epix, vibrant display. Garmin decided to discontinue the Epix and just wrap it into the Fenix line as one of its non-solar versions. The display is a little bigger and there are some minor upgrades to the software and UI. Garmin continues to improve and innovate and prove itself as the leader of fitness and sports watches. It’s a little pricier than it should be but I’d been waiting so long for this release that beggars can’t be choosers. Bought the 8 51mm Amoled DLC Titanium, Experiencing 0 lags, I believe the updates from Garmin fixed the initial issues. Love the green/red shift mode. ECG monitor is ok, could be better, but cool feature to have. Battery Life on the Amoled is 21 days, with Pulse OX on the whole day, and Always on display turned off. If you have all the bells and whistles on, your gonna get max 11 days, which is still better then the 6X at 10 days! Super happy with it. Ive come to love the red light/flashlight when getting up in the middle of the night to go pee lol Alot of Customization in each activity which is nice. I like the phone assistant which i can communicate to my fenix 8 through mh watch, texts, play music, make phone calls, etc. The price tag is hefty, but worth it! Love ... The main use case for this device for me is for running and going Outdoors like hiking, camping and snowboarding. I've mainly been testing it for running which is fantastic. I especially enjoy being able to quickly toggle into running activity with maps, and relevant metrics which also pairs with my Runtastic app. The device was definitely designed with athletes in mind. the screen is clear and crisp and very well built while maintaining a very light feel on my wrist. metrics from the device and use from the Garmin app felt very natural and very informative. love the heart rate monitor as it's very accurate and resembles the measurements from a chest heart rate monitor. I would definitely purchase the device again however the price is a bit steep for what it is.
