Got this for my wife and I to use because we both use Garmin watches and track most fitness and sleep metrics. We also both have access to a "professional" (not allowed to say the name) scale and our old scale that measures weight and body fat. Both the Professional and home scale measure my body fat between 13-14% day to day. The Garmin has me at 29% body fat. I am 58 years old 6'1 193 lbs. I work out 5 days a week and have since my teenage years. If I change my age to reflect me being 35 years old the bodyfat shows 26%. I have never been 20+% body fat in my life. The Garmin scale looks at my age and weight and assumes I am overweight. We were both very hopeful for this scale, but after a couple of days it was obvious it was a waste of money if you track anything ... Being on dialysis I'm required to measure weight daily. Becoming an athlete again and undoing years of medical trauma my plan includes losing fat and gaining muscle mass. This scale will be able to assist me in knowing that I'm achieving my goal. I love that all data is logged in cataloged to my garmin connect and syncs easily with other health data. The setup was simple. Multiple users are possible and the scale knows who is standing on it. The black model looks amazing and doesn't show foot prints. I couldn't be happier with a scale. It also displays weather data and Temps besides all the health info. Simply perfect.

I bought this $200 smart scale to upgrade from my previous Fitbit scale. My wife and I use Garmin watches and had high expectations for this investment. But, the first scale received had connectivity issues and Garmin had to replace it. The second scale works but is not predictable. You may need to step on it 2 or 3 times to wake it up. It sometimes loses connection. Overall, it is not user-friendly like all of my other top-tier tech electronics. Garmin could work to make the beautiful and exceptional hardware better by stepping up the programming and software. My opinion only. I have always been a Garmin fan and this is the one product out of many that I have been disappointed with.
I got my original Garmin Index S2 scale about 10 months ago. I love that all my measurements get uploaded to my phone and the web via the Garmin Connect App. However, I noticed that my Body Fat % is rather high compared to other digital scales, even my son's Garmin Index (previous generation). According to other scales, my body fat is around 21%. According to this Index S2 scale, it's around 32%, which would indicate that I'm obese. But I'm 5' 9" and weigh about 162 lbs., which is clearly not obese. I even contacted Garmin support about this issue and they sent me a new scale in exchange for my old one. The new one they sent me only lowered my BF 1% (old scale said 33%, new scale says 32%).Except for this one issue, which I believe to be a design flaw of the Index ... I've had this scale for about a month, a very disappointing month. The scale is good looking, easily set up, and interfaces smoothly with the Connect app. Additionally, the weight measurements seem to be consistently accurate, but that's where the good news ends. As a tool for monitoring body composition, this product is worthless. Seems like the body comp results are generated through some sort of statistical guesswork. My scale consistently reads almost 10% off from my actual body fat %, though if I mess with my age on the app, I can bring it closer to the 5% range. If you want a nice looking scale for a lot of money, get this one. If you're looking for a reliable tool to track health metrics, look elsewhere.
I recently updated to the Index S2 after my S1 finally failed. The S2 provides more detailed data on bone mass, muscle mass, and water percentage which may be helpful. It is hard to get it to turn on and frustrates others in my family. Justing standing on it or tapping doesn't work. I find I need to pick it up and then set it down again to get it to register - acceptable, but annoying. Also, my reported body fat percentage jumped 10-12% higher relative to what my S1 reported. One nice thing is that my Garmin account no longer updates my weight to 60 lbs whenever my kid steps on the scale. But perhaps this is because they can't figure out how to turn it on! Sometimes stepping on the scale twice in a row shows a fluctuation of about .7 lbs. Not very confidence ... MoreI recently updated to the Index S2 after my S1 finally failed. The Garmin Connect sync has been great which seems to be what we're paying for here.
These are great if you already have Garmin products and want to have your weight automatically entered into the system. No typing, no Bluetooth, it does does it over WiFi. The only slight problem that most people appear to have is that they won't turn on. If you're used to scales that you press first or just climb on, then you may find this a problem until you get used to it. You have to "tap" the scales to turn them on. Gentle or even quite forceful pressure doesn't work. If you tap them with your knuckles very quickly once, like knocking on a door, you'll get the idea. You can then do it with your foot. You'll soon get the hang of it but it does make you think that they're broken when you first try them. They're not (hopefully)!
Brand new out of the box and doesn't even work, screen just keeps flashing. My first thought was okay the batteries it comes with must just be dead. Went down and bought new batteries and put them in and same exact problem. Went straight to Google thinking I could get it working and found out there are thousands of people with the exact same issue. I chose this scale, regardless of the absolutely insane cost, because all my fitness is tracked through the Garmin Connect app so I thought it would be nice to add in a scale that would mesh seamlessly with everything else. Will be returning tomorrow and going with the Body+ from Withings. All the same metrics for literally half the price. What a shame Garmin.
The good: Seamless integration with the app. All info in one place. The bad: Pricey compared to others in the market. Grossly overestimates body fat (by almost double compared to multiple other devices as well as comparing how I look with medical comparison photos). Less data than other, cheaper scales. Does not show where you fall in relation to normal. For example, my Renpho scale that I bought for $39.00 has far more data. Also, you could click on a value such as BMI and it displayed where you fall on a sliding scale (underweight, athletic, normal, overweight). Now I have to look this up on my own as opposed to just having it built into the app. Should be an easy fix with a software update and I really hope Garmin does this.I only bought this scale as I use ...
