I was looking for a direct replacement of my original Instinct. The solar was a main feature for me as I really do not like to charge my watches all the time.I do quite enjoy the larger face (I'm a big guy and like bigger watches). It's easy to read, relatively customizable, and has all of the same metrics my previous Instinct had. The GPS connect is much faster than my previous watch, which I really appreciate. Standing around and waiting for the clouds to clear or signals to bounce off buildings was always a bit obnoxious. The little flashlight, er, torch, is a great addition, albeit slightly silly. It reminds me of the gadgets from Get Smart.I find one of the biggest downfalls to this version is the heart rate monitor. I've always had issues getting reliable ... I've always had issues getting reliable heart rate readings due to my tattoos. My previous watch was adequate and could read if I had the face on the inside of my wrist (which is where I prefer to wear the watch anyhow). However, this version doesn't read as well. I haven't been able to get reliable sleep statistics (at least reliable outputs, regardless of accuracy) and the watch often has no output data throughout the day.All-in-all, I'm glad I upgraded as I've been wanting a new watch for a while. I think it's a great watch and not one that I'd be concerned about banging around. Kettlebell workouts, working on my car, house projects, etc. I have no concern for the watch. I don't think I'd feel the same way about a Fenix if I were wrenching. The watch suits my needs for workout and daily data. It's rugged and holds up to the tasks that its exposed to. I don't need a color display with tons of apps or music streaming, etc. The battery life is pretty darn good and I'm still working on running the battery down after owning it for a couple of weeks.I'd definitely recommend this watch for those looking for basic functionality and durability.

Having had this watch for almost a week now, some thoughts on what would make this really appealing long term.Over the past day I've been considering returning this watch, but not for the good features it has like sleep tracking, pulse oximeter, and activity, but for the lack of Garmin's understanding that there is an increasing trend of people that do not want to submit their personal and highly sensitive data to third parties. In addition there's an increasing trend in people that want to self-host services and use open source apps like Gadget Bridge. The watch is pretty limited without Garmin's Connect app, which presents several issues. Nope, you are locked in to Garmin hosting and holding your data behind a walled garden. Want to use Gadget Bridge, an open source alternative app that supports many other smart watches? Nope, Garmin doesn't support that. In fact, the Garmin Connect app makes the nice health tracking features of the watch useless unless you create an account and fork over highly sensitive data.If values of personal privacy and data freedom are important to you, consider passing this watch. And for Garmin, consider changing your posture and providing features that let users have more control over the data they are forking over to you.

Purchased about a month ago after a lot of holding out and shopping around. This product is nice but way over priced. When using the full breadth of its capabilities its battery life declines significantly, saying it lasts for 40 days it a bit misleading. The solar capabilities don't seem to add to battery life in a meaningful way. Mostly this watch confirms information I already know about myself and I believe most athletes would. I recommend buying a more basic tracker until the price drops or some type of significant upgrades are introduced.

I've had this watch for a few weeks now and it is just what I was looking for. I've had Garmin watches for years. There are some other training tools I use that I wish had better integration with the Garmin ecosystem so last year I decided to try a Samsung Watch 5. That watch is fantastic but still had shortcomings integrating with other training tools I use and it wasn't a Garmin. The accuracy wasn't quite as good, and the training tools weren't quite as good, so just overall wasn't as good a fit for me.Enter the Instinct 2X Solar. This watch is awesome! The battery life has been outstanding, the training tools are outstanding.I do miss having a color screen just a bit but the tradeoffs are way better! I also thought it might be a bit large for me (6ft male) but it's a great fit for me.I thought the flashlight might be a bit gimmicky but it turns out I use it almost every night when I walk my dogs. It's much brighter than I would have expected.
Outstanding watch; very comfortable and light on the wrist; durable plastic body; simple screen is easy to read & allows the battery to last for weeks; with regular sun exposure it has potential to never need charging; has all the sports activities and body metrics, bread-crumb trail navigation works well, effectively its a light weight Fenix 7X without the touchscreen, maps or on board music; the built-in LED flashlight is very useful & bright - a must have; and at almost half the price of a Fenix, its great value.
I purchased my Garmin 2x solar a little over a month ago, since I already had a garmin instinct which the battery would only last a day in hiking mode. The 2x solar last over 24 days in hiking mode,(tracking my pace;miles per hr., altitude, time. Ttl. Miles, heart rate, day & date.) All on on a custom screen option I set up on the hiking screen, on the watch. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. Mostly, not having to charge every night when thru hiking is great. I needed to somedays down load to my phone and charge up and start again hiking simply because of not enough battery life on my other garmin instinct. Now I don't have to do anything but hiking on! I do some pretty extensive dog training and also own a alpha 10 and tt15x I'm a little perplexed how more features that would be readily implemented that would drastically boost functionality by way of bluetooth connection to a smart phone haven't been. The actual watch is absolutely awesome and addresses every issue i had with the original instinct series whioch I wound up returning. I am rather disappointed in the training options available through not only the collar and remote but its interface to a greater processing source and secondary relay of information if available. Huge potential, little imagination in the development department at least in said integration to dog training equipment which was one of my biggest motivators.
Let me start by saying that I was immediately sold on getting this specific Garmin device when I found out about the solar charging and the built-in flashlight. Both of these features have been functioning with no problems. The smartwatch and fitness are absolutely fantastic and function as they should! I can easily track my exercise and retrieve and respond to notifications from my smartphone. I am slowly learning and getting a hang of the other features and enjoying it! I appreciate the tactile buttons to use the device and not a touch screen because I would be worried about damaging the screen and/or something rubbing up against it and activating it. Overall, I am really happy with my experience! So far, so good! I wholeheartedly recommend it!
I have been wearing Instincts since they first came out. I have bought much fancier Garmins including the Marq but kept gravitating back to the Instinct, particularly the solar version which makes it an incredible travel watch. I received the 2X, wore it once and did not bond. I pulled it out a while later, took it for a few runs and kept it on for a few days. I then wore it on a trip and played with it’s features. In short, I determined it was such a great watch I ordered a second. Give this watch a fair shake and you will love it.
I’ve had this watch roughly 2 or 3 weeks and have not charged it. I’ve been running, swimming, biking, and weight training with no problems tracking metrics. This is my first Garmin watch and hopefully not the last. I work in law enforcement and so far it’s built to withstand tough conditions. The only thing I haven’t tested is elevation metrics as I have not ventured in a helicopter training as of yet. I’m very pleased with purchase and hopefully Garmin will send me the Forerunner 965 to test out as a courtesy to obtain fresh feedback from a different perspective incorporating a different dynamic. This watch is a must have for those who step outside their comfort zone on a regular basis.
