I purchased a 32gb microSD card with it and also bought a wiring adapter which allows me to tap into the power to my rear view mirror to my 2014 Ford F-150.This one accessory made it completely worthwhile and I absolutely love this dash cam.Does it have 2 cameras? It works flawlessly, even with the stereo going at reasonable level.Since the camera is so small, I mounted it directly in front of the rear view mirror and all I see is the red power light when I turn the ignition on. There is an extra ball mount so you can move your dash cam between 2 vehicles if needed without having to buy another mount.I’ve read of many issues with other brands and I just wanted a dash cam that works with a high degree of reliability. Ive been using this one for about 3 weeks now and I don’t regret my purchase one bit.

I’m happy so far with the Garmin Mini 2 Dash Cam. I’ve had it for a month and used on a 2000-mile round trip to Florida in August, with no overheating issues. It was easy to set up with my Android and I started using it right away. The app is easy to use and video quality is good. I’ve read where some have had problems disconnecting it from the ball-and-socket window holder, but mine easily snaps on and off.It doesn’t come with a micro-SD card, so I added a Samsung 256 GB that was on sale, which has provided over 30 hours recording. I also added a Polarized Filter which improves video quality in direct sunlight.I currently have just a basic setup, mounted behind the rear-view mirror and using the 12V socket for power. It’s fine if you want to document what happened during an accident. However, it doesn’t provide very clear detail for license plates unless you are very near them, so if you are concerned about hit-and-run incidents, I would get a camera with 4K.

The picture is very good. The price is right. It is tiny and easy to place. But the negatives... hoo boy. This is going to be fun payback for Garmin's time-wasting product.-- There is no PC software to join up the tiny little video segments into a long video.-- You will want to mount the device hidden from driver's view because of the distracting bright LED.-- Micro SD has the 32GB FAT32 limit which is required. No matter how big your card is, it will be 32GB and probably won't work at all. The card also needs to be recent high speed, not one of the dozens you've accumulated. The device does not tell you why a card is rejected. It is just rejected and good luck finding out why.-- The many functions of its single driver-facing button are bewildering and ... It is just rejected and good luck finding out why.-- The many functions of its single driver-facing button are bewildering and potentially destructive so I never touch it. Keep a spare card in the car in case you need to save something important.-- The LED flash patterns and beeps are bewildering and always have to be Googled.-- There is a phone app which is handy for aiming and playback on your phone but little else. You still can't put videos on your PC. Even plugging the whole device into a PC does nothing.-- You have to buy the whole little mounting arm for $13.00 if you need to move the mount or have the windshield replaced. And good luck finding the actual proper size part number and it being in-stock. The dash cam box comes with one spare arm for your inevitable wrong placement.
I got this thing in-store, but ordered my SD card online to go with it. I read through Garmin's official documentation, which says the cam supports up to 512 GB capacity. That's a lie. https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=OF98RhazrR4CS6lAzssmi9 The actual max size is 32 GB, since it must be formatted to FAT32 and if the card is greater than 32 GB, Windows won't format it to FAT32. https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-8EFC497C-4031-46EE-AC26-B0AE4B3CE8BD/EN-US/Dash_Cam_Mini_2_OM_EN-US.pdf Lost about 60 bucks on the SD card that I can't use + shipping and handling because of their bad documentation. It looks like you *might* be able to format a 64 GB SD card to FAT32 format. I'm a trucker and bought this for my own protection and security reasons. The software is sketchy the Wi-Fi connection barely works no matter location no matter strength of signal. Your videos are overwritten within 24 hours no matter your SD size and in one lump sum file. Trying to go back and trim is almost impossible through the sketchy software. The okay Garmin save video option seems cool with voice command but until you actually purchase and use this thing you have to be a mind reader to know that you're fixing to be in an accident or need something recorded and saved in the vault. Even when using the voice command save option it only does one minute intervals. I was excited to get this product and thought it would solve all my problems but obviously I was ... I'm amazed at all the positive feedback I take this product seriously and don't want to just look like I have a dash cam. Would not recommend this product.
Size and price are small, which is nice, but if you want a dash cam for identification you may want to consider it's capabilities such as reading a license plate number. Set up could have been smoother. In other words I needed to contact Garmin customer support to walk me thru it. As with most digital electronics the instructions are not written for someone like me that expects set-up to work slightly less than automatically. Chat support is not a strong point for me either and thankfully Garmin offers phone support which worked very well. Chat support is not a strong point for me either and thankfully Garmin offers phone support which worked very well. Once installed everything is automatic including a feature, which requires a special cable from Garmin, that will monitor the vehicle while parked with the ignition off. If the vehicle gets bumped the camera begins recording and sends a text message that something happened. I get lots a text messages and each one has been generated by me opening the door or closing the trunk even when set to it's lowest sensitivity. I also question the value of this feature. Unless the vehicle gets bumped from the direction the camera is pointed it will not provide a useful photo. I, of course, may be missing the point. I also find I don't need or miss not having a video monitor on the dash cam device itself. When and if I want to look at a video of something that happened while the vehicle was in motion the last thing I should be doing is looking at it while driving. The Mimi II connects, via the Garmin Drive app, to my phone and plays all the Dash Cam videos recorded. In summary the Garmin Dash Cam Mini II is easy to live with because of it's very small size and this one feature is far greater than any of it's faults. The price is easy to love, it's small and easily moved from one vehicle to another, it works automatically so it's set it and forget it plus an optional feature provides a level of security when the vehicle parked and unattended. On the other side the quality of video does not let me read a license plate number when reviewing the dash cam videos in the higher definition format. If it had better video definition for reading numbers and letters it would almost be perfect.
I work in the safety department of a national trucking company where I actually go over accident footage captured from our truck's dash cameras. The devices installed in our trucks are big, clunky, and struggle to stay attached to the windshield. With that in mind I spent a lot of time researching a compact and light-weight dashcam that would stay affixed to the windshield and be out of sight.Without a doubt this has been the best dashcam I have ever used. Mounting it was a piece of cake, the 3M adhesive has held up to cold days and the hottest days of summer. The camera itself has remained operable even in extreme summer heat. The ability to live view from it using a phone app has been wonderful in making sure placement is acceptable. Again I can't stress this ... The ability to live view from it using a phone app has been wonderful in making sure placement is acceptable. Again I can't stress this enough, it is tiny and easily fits tucked behind my MX-5's rearview mirror. One of the best features of it is that you can tell it "Ok Garmin, Record Video" and it will immediately record without me having to reach a hand behind my mirror to push the trigger button.I highly recommend taking about 30-45 minutes to update the camera's firmware when you first install it. The app doesn't just upgrade it to the latest firmware in one step, you have to upgrade it in iterations. It took about 30 minutes and about 5 times of repeating the 'Check for Updates, Upgrade Firmware' steps in the app after it was finally caught up to date.I also recommend picking up a rearview mirror USB power adapter harness for your specific vehicle. My MX-5 uses a homelink auto-dimming mirror so I picked up a harness that plugs into the back of the mirror in between the car's wiring harness. The harness features a 5V USB female pug that let me run a short 3 inch USB cable from the dash cam to the plug behind the mirror. Upon vehicle ignition on the camera immediately turns on and I didn't have to run a long USB cable through my car's interior.
Good video quality for 1080p (believe it uses higher bitrate encoding then comparably priced cams). Love the form factor, simplicity of use, voice activation features, and ability to multicam. 140 degree angle of view is sufficient and not overly fisheyed compared to 180 AOV. Build quality feels good but time will tell obviously. App is just okay with both BT and WiFi (2.4ghz only, boo!) connections occasionally finicky. Settings apply quickly but media transfer rates can be slow wireless (just eject card and transfer/edit elsewhere or connect cam to tablet/laptop/PC with cable). Optional/additional cost polarizing filter helps with the glare but is too expensive for what it is and should really be included on lens of unit “stock”. Picked up another one elsewhere to ... The video quality is great...when if actually captures video. I bought this a few days before I went on a fishing trip which took me on a journey of only about 1.5 hours, and was excited to have a dash cam, since I have experienced many horrible drivers, near collisions, and other random stuff on my prior trips. I installed the dashcam and connected it to my phone, after installing an SD card with more than enough storage room necessary for the trip. Long story short...the ONLY time I needed it to record...it FAILED me. To set the scene, I was coming around a blind corner up in the mountains and while I was looking though the turn to the oncoming lane, my buddy in the passenger seat said "Deer deer deer!" at which point I saw a deer coming into my lane from out of ... When I say that I narrowly missed the deer, I mean I practically got his hoof prints on my front bumper as he attempted to run away, hoofs on asphalt...as my antilock brakes kept me from careening of into the trees. So I get home and take out the SD card eager to see the crazy thing captured on my brand new dashcam......and....NOTHING!!!!!!!! eff this dashcam. It captured every other gd second, but not the 30 seconds I actually cared about!!! Do NOT buy this piece of st camera. End of rant.
