At $116 plus tax at the time, I was taking a leap buying these. However, I realized that ~$9.00/ wrench is not a bad deal at all for something quality, and I have had good fortune with gear wrench products in the past. I work as a mechanic and use these at least every other day, and I like them a lot. The longer than normal size is a plus, and I was contemplating buying flex head wrenches of the same style, however the straight design and fewer moving parts makes them more robust. Another plus is that there are no skipped sizes- a common pet peeve of mine when buying metric tools. I have not had an issue with these so far and I would definitely buy these again!! I do recommend keeping the ratcheting mechanism as clean as possible after a long day of work, because I ... MoreAt $116 plus tax at the time, I was taking a leap buying these. I am very pleased with these wrenches, I did not expect them to be as long as they are. I photographed two of them along side of my Gearwrench open end ratcheting wrenches. The extra length instantly made them my favorite wrenches. (if you don't think the length is important, just wait until you get a little older). I also was surprised by the non-ratcheting end , the offset design makes it able to get in places a straight head cannot. These will not replace the open end wrenches, but for everything you can use a box end wrench, you will reach for these first. The quality and finish is just as high as the standard gearwrench open end ratcheting wrenches and a added bonus is them come in a heavy duty holder that fits right in your standard tool box. I absolutely love these wrenches. The set I received was made in Taiwan. A set of wrenches from Gearwrench I received about 1-2 years ago was China made, and the wrenches are absolutely horrible. These wrenches are more like the older Gearwrench ratchets, a quality and straight wrench. Straight is no joke, the China wrenches often came with a banana type shape when looking at the end-to-end. I have three Craftsman 26 inch toolboxes. Nothing professional, but I am a DIYer and have no need for the more expensive boxes. The tray the wrenches come in is about 1/2 inch too long to fit vertically in the drawers. The issue exists with all three of them, from an old 80s style, to the 75th anniversary box to a normal about 2000-ish box. This has no impact on wrench ... MoreI absolutely love these wrenches. This has no impact on wrench performance though, so I did not even reduce a star for this. The wrenches themselves are great. The non ratcheting box ind has very thin walls, which if it were not for a lifetime warranty, I would complain about. I do see this helpful in allowing access in the very tightest of spaces. For the reason I purchased this, and I Am sure the reason most others are looking at this, the length of the wrenches is about perfect. I have worked on a few Asian cars now where the bolts are very close to the fenders or other parts of the car. It makes getting a socket and ratchet in there nearly impossible. The length and offer of the non ratcheting box end make this a perfect wrench in those situations. If you need wrenches that provide greater access due to length, give these a shot.

I have the Metric & SAE sets in both regular and extended sizes. I am trying very hard to like these wrenches, but overall maybe I am too much of a tool snob to be in love with them. I will provide a pro/con (this applies to all the Gearwrench (GW) long ratcheting double box wrench sets): PROS: 1) Reasonable price 2) Good chrome and finish 3) Nice holder (fits in tool box drawers perfectly) 4) Overall, seems to work OK CONS: 1) Wrenches are just not thick or strong enough. They bend and flex all over the place (especially the smaller sizes under about 17mm) and this can be very unnerving if you value your body parts. 2) Fit is not the best. This series of GW's has more slop in the fixed box end than ANY of the box ends on my other 12 point wrenches (I have Proto, ... MoreI have the Metric & SAE sets in both regular and extended sizes. This series of GW's has more slop in the fixed box end than ANY of the box ends on my other 12 point wrenches (I have Proto, SK, Heyco, Wright, Dewalt, & Wera besides GW). 3) I am having a very hard time believing these wrenches are forged correctly or made from quality steel. I have some pretty nice wrench sets and they all ring out when struck, except for these double box GW's. Though not scientific, it seems like ringing is a sign that the part is stiff and has been heat treated properly. I wonder if these GW's are either made by another method (e.g., casting, sintering, etc.), or just use crappy soft steel (possibly why they flex so much). These double boxes just go "tink" when you strike them on another metal surface. They do not ring out and to me this is a sign that GW cheaped out on these particular wrenches. I have other GW regular combination wrenches that do "ring out" when struck...so it is really just a complaint about these double box sets and not the entire GW line. 4) Returned 2 sets for bent wrenches out of the box...poor quality control. But, I have also had this problem with the "premium" brands as well. If GW would make these have a thicker beam and better tolerance on the fixed non-ratcheting box end...they would really be a great set of wrenches. As is...only 3 stars. I want the Snap On sets of non-ratcheting long zero degree double box wrenches...but they are simply too expensive for a DIY person like myself ($600 for both Metric & SAE sets).
I opened the box and took out the storage tray, I just said WOW! These are NICE! The length is really great. The function and finish is on point. I have come to expect excellence from Gearwrench, but they really brought it this time. I really like the fixed box end. A little deeper, more contact for extra holding power, more bit on the head. This is a great feature. This will prevent many a bloody knuckle. All and All I consider this a total hit.My only question is what are the 2 tabs on the end of the tray? They don't really look strong enough to really do anything. But...that's my only negative.. Great tool Gearwrench
I have a lot of Gearwrenh ratcheting ratchets, so I'm familiar with and love their capabilities – but… these XL Double Box wrenches are amazing. First off – they are loooong! Perfect for getting some leverage with the static box side and once the fastener is broken free, go to town with the ratcheting side. No need to switch wrenches – just flip it around. The case is an added bonus to keep them from walking away. The only two minor cons I see in my initial use is:1. Incredible size range (8mm - 25mm), EXCEPT they skipped the 23mm! Why?2. I hope I don't get the proofreader fired, but there is a typo in the package wrap.I'm so happy that I've added the Xls to my wrench arsenal and expect them to be extremely handy in the years to come.
These are my go to wrenches now. The length gives you the leverage to needed for even the most stubborn bolts. I really enjoy using them on the skid steer to get in behind the arms or underneath on the skid plate. The ratcheting end held up on heavy equipment at the shop and made life easier with the length. You do have to have a pretty straight shot getting into places but I found I was grabbing these before anything else. The offset on the one end helps give added clearance when getting in tight locations too. These also make changing oil even more of a breeze with the added length. The craftsmanship is top notch and the chrome is as shiny as the diamond ring my wife wears. I highly recommend these for the heavy duty use professional to the diy mechanic.
These wrenches are premium quality chrome, balanced and long enough for most any job. I am a home mechanic, rebuilding VW's and older engines. The torque from the length of the wrenches is right on. It is handy to have the 5 degree ratcheting end along with the fixed end, these wont slip like an open ended wrench and your knuckles will thank you for that. The case that the wrenches come in is pretty good, didn't fit into some of my tool chest drawers as it is pretty wide, but that's not a big deal to me, it fit in my Craftsman tool box without issue. I want to point out that the reach and balance on these is spot on. The minimal 5 degree ratchet is super important especially trying to free rusted bolts and nuts. I started buying GearWrench tools about 10 years ago ... MoreThese wrenches are premium quality chrome, balanced and long enough for most any job. I started buying GearWrench tools about 10 years ago and haven't been disappointed. The chrome holds up, nothing has broke, even when really getting on it. In fact these are the only tools I own that I actually take the time to wipe down and polish with a rag. I like when my neighborhood wrench jockeys come over and see them gleaming in the sun and say good things. GearWrench hasn't let me down, and I hope to pass my tools down to my son when I go to the big salvage yard in the sky. Wrench On!
This was my first time to use gear wrench products. The only question I have after trying these out, is why did I wait so long? From the moment these arrived, the quality of these wrenches is clear. They are hefty, extremely useful length, and the chrome finish is top shelf.I normally do not keep tools in the box they came in. WONDERFUL SET OF WRENCHES! The XL length really helps with leverage when dealing with extra-tight nuts and bolts. As well, the offset, extra deep box end is very useful for recessed bolts as it provides a solid grip and less chances for rounding. Basically, I use the box end side to break the bolt loose, then I flip it around and use the ratchet end to finish the job. It couldn’t be any easier! The set includes a very nice tray that fit perfectly in my tool drawer; keeping it all neat, organized and ready for the next task. The build quality of this tool set seems to be high-end. The chrome plating is thick, smooth and bright. And each wrench feels balanced and good in the hand. See the included photo for a size compare with GearWrench FlexHead Wrenches – just to ...
