After a long, long time I finally crowned my desire for a '61 Gibson SG Standard! What to say? WoW!!Thanks also to Gibson who with this Maestro Vibrola Vintage reissue takes you back in time, just when music was only analogue and we challenged each other with sonorities that did not remain in the nineteenth century but will go beyond generations for a long time and also mine time. I will play it with all my passion and with all of myself, abandoning myself to the sounds of Led Zeppelin's Rock And Roll! When you buy these items you are not reviewing the guitar but the experience you will never forget! Thanks to the MusicStore guys who are always available and super professional! Ah ps: I also bought the amp from them! Highly recommended!

We took our 17 yr old to Sweetwater to experience the store we had heard so much about. We were at first not getting any help and were kinda underwhelmed. When we asked for help we never stopped receiving it! My son got to play guitars we clearly could not afford but not one employee made us feel like we weren't welcome to let him play. He tried pedals galore! Although they didn't have the guitar he initially went to look at he ended up getting what he considered a dream guitar. We were treated very well and the experience although not cheap was a good one. My son has asked several times when are we going back. Everyone we spoke to knew exactly what we were asking and what they were talking about. I highly recommend if you can to go to the store it's a great place ... MoreWe took our 17 yr old to Sweetwater to experience the store we had heard so much about. It is amazing it has great sound and my son loves the sound. We need a better amp to give this guitar the sound it deserves.

The '61 SG is already a famously "sick" guitar for rock, blues and metal. The tone is amazing, and along with the looks, inspires when dialing in Black Sabbath and Cream tones, not to mention Freddy King, and yes modern metal imo. This Demo was as described, and really, is what one would expect when buying a new guitar from a brick and mortar store where other customers have handled it before finding a home. Sweeetwater really stands out, especially on being able to see the exact guitar -new and "demos" -- you are getting before it's delivered. Thank you!

Got one and what an Incredible Guitar, yes out of the box theres a few adjustments like most guitars and yes the sideways vibrola goes out of tune alot at first. But once you play it a while and slide your strings a few times threw the neck nut. Stretch the strings out and know your not using a Floyd Rose with a locking nut! Instead do small pitch shifting and not just divebomb it holds tune fairly well. I've owned the 61 Sg Maestro before and it could be the luck of the draw but this one stays in tune just as well as that one did. Its usually at the nut binding because of the arched headstock, not necessary the vibrato system. This is my 8th Gibson Sg and the sound is the best I've had in almost any guitar. The feel is addictive, and the looks are breathtaking. ... MoreGot one and what an Incredible Guitar, yes out of the box theres a few adjustments like most guitars and yes the sideways vibrola goes out of tune alot at first. The lockdown has been an interesting thing....I decided to invest in guitars as I saw wood prices and inflation escalate. Otherwise it's like a money flush. So far i've gotten: Custom Shop 54, 56, 57, 58, 59 x 3, 60 x 2 Les Pauls. Plus many standard 50's/60's Les Pauls. Then I got the 59/61 Custom Shop SG.Finally, I got the Gibson Standard 61' SG this last month. So what's the best....If I had to choose one?...it would be the SG. I recognize why this guitar is so great. Accessibility to the entire neck, the slightly decreased sustain which makes the tone cut a bit more than the LP. The Les Pauls have limited access to the high frets, the Epiphone pickups just don't cut it. The Gibson Les Paul Standards are simply too heavy. Now I know why the guitarist of early ... MoreThe lockdown has been an interesting thing....I decided to invest in guitars as I saw wood prices and inflation escalate. The Gibson Les Paul Standards are simply too heavy. Now I know why the guitarist of early Wings fame played one....his tone is my favorite of almost any player...he played the original of course. Watch his tribute on YT and you'll see the tone of this great guitar. Not to mention ACD!So, the 61' SG standard is simply a fantastic guitar. The neck girth is somewhat flat...and that makes it a dream to play. Now, I'm going to put in CustomBuckers and it will be even better than fantastic. Should I get the Custom Shop 61??? Maybe. We'll See
To all you Fender P-Bass Lovers....and those that couldn't afford a Fender and chose to purchase an inferior product like a musicman, jackson, ibenez, vox, guild, rickenbacker, etc. The Gibson SG dual pickup is the most expressive bass guitar ever made. The tone rang exceeds all these other variations. It is very light weight and won't kill your back and neck standing up. Buy a SG over a Les Paul any day.The short length is perfect for those guys built like Nils Lofgren. It is such A Great Machine I wouldn't want to see anyone else but Me having one. So stick with what you got. Jack Bruce and I will get along just fine.I don't know why this guitar left the factory without being set up. I had to adjust the neck and the Octave. I did not receive the correct Quality Checklist in the shipment from Sam Ash and am still waiting for a response. I receive the QC for Serial No. 190011363. My SG Bass Serial No. is 190008637. What I think happened was the guitar and case was put in the wrong box when shipped for the Sam Aah store...someone else will receive my SC instead.
Before ordering, I wondered if this was really worth the price above the Epiphone version (which is also a long scale). The answer is yes! The color is what caused me to pull the trigger. It's long been my favorite finish, but I don't have any blue basses. Out of the box, the bass felt great after tuning it up. It doesn't feel like a short scale bass, so my hands knew right where to go, unlike a Mustang, where I really have to pay attention because of the scale. The feel was very comfortable overall...no sharp edges or anything. Sound is fantastic. It's thick, but has some grunt to it. The bridge pickup on the Epi models is really weak, but this one pulls it's weight adding punch and clarity. It's got the low end that punches everything up, while also offering enough definition that the bass doesn't sound like a blanket or mud. It's not going to get me a Peter Hook tone, but it works where I want it to. Very happy with the bass as well as the overall service from CME!
This is a very fine guitar. It has bite to it, IMO a little more bitey than myLes Paul Traditional Pro V. The guitar is very beautiful. It handles very well. I chose the Tobacco Sunburst color. The only downfall is the dark color seems to show any dust or finger prints easily. Nothing a little wiping can't get rid of. The guitar is so excellent in looks, quality, playability, etc. that I can't find any flaws with it. It does come with a hard shell case. Pay the extra for this model over the standard SG. You won't regret it.
I got this guitar recently, ordered online. I was sent a floor model, because for some reason, though GC said they had it "in stock", they couldn't find one in their warehouse, and sent me one from a store miles away. It had dings where the neck meets the headstock, due to being hung on the wall. Most of the hardware was loose. The thing would not stay in tune and would not intonate. I spent more time tuning and fussing with it, than playing it. Had to have it set up professionally. because lubing the nut and the bridge didn't help. I'm wondering, if it'd been sent from the warehouse direct, those issues would be present. The finish is beautiful. The fretboard is smooth. Just wish GC had more guitars actually in-store, to try before buying. Let's just say, for near ... MoreI got this guitar recently, ordered online. I wanted an SG for years and finally bought one. I love this thing. The guitar is beautiful and the case is very nice -- it sounds great too.But I think I got a demo or maybe even a returned guitar. All the clear plastic film was removed except for the little plastic thing between the neck and pick-up, there is a dent in the bottom bout, the frets are tarnished, the strings rusty and the set-up is about what you'd expect from a very low end guitar. I bonded with it right away so I'll likely be keeping it, though for this kind of money ($1933.00) after taxes I expected something with a higher standard of fit and finish.Don't get me wrong I love this guitar.
