Gibson - SG Standard Bass - Heritage Cherry
The Gibson SG Standard Bass Cherry follows the tradition of the most iconic Gibson bass and convinces with its authentic design, smooth playing characteristics and massive Vintage sounds. Based on the legendary doublecut design of the Gibson SG, the four-string has a mahogany body and a glued mahogany neck in a not too strong "rounded" profile, whereby the 30.5" short scale not only allows comfortable grasping of the tones, but also supports a fat sound with emphasis on the bass foundation. On the bass amp, the powerful Gibson Rhythm SG bass pickup on the neck delivers an extremely fat sound, whose massive low end pushes every note into the pit of the stomach. In contrast, the Gibson Lead SG Bass Minihumbucker placed on the bridge delivers a wiry cultivated tone with high assertiveness. The pickups are managed classically by means of a passive circuit consisting of two volume potentiometers and a general treble diaphragm. Last but not least, the Gibson SG Standard Bass Cherry is equipped with the traditional Gibson 3-Point Adjustable Bridge and Grover Shamrock bass mechanics. I bought this Gibson SG bass, on payments from AMS. I bought it as a backup to my Pbass Ultra. It’s now my primary base because I love it so much. It’s so easy to play and I can play for hours at a time. The sound is great. I primarily use the neck pickup and I had the classic SZg sound.

Picked this up for my daughter for a second bass to her Thunderbird. She loves it and now has the proverbial “good dilemma”.This bass sounds amazing and is easy to play. There is a minor QC issue. The bottom of the fretboard was left choppy & unfinished. We may bring it to a luthier to have it sanded down, we may not. Not a big enough deal to take a star off the rating. Not very impressed by the case. Handle hardware is flimsy and it seems too thin but we would probably have replaced it with a Mono bag anyway.

I bought a Gibson SG Standard and just loved it. I needed a bass and never hesitated on getting the SG bass in cherry red. I was so excited when I got it. It was everything I thought and more. Thanks to AMS for making this possible for all my purchases with there no interest plans. Customer Service and there other departments are great to work with.

Wanted one of these for the longest time, finally went ahead (thanks to AMS payment options!), and oh boy...This thing is a massive upgrade from any other bass I've owned over the years. Being a shorter fella, with shorter arms, the short scale is an absolute breeze to master, and ridiculously comfortable. The overall lightweight nature of this beast is a godsend (no more headstock weight taking over!). Tone is phenomenal, with the two volume controls, can get either real deep and smooth or a little more high end--a la motown. The neck is very very very comfortable in hand, and the action is very smooth up and down. Can definitely feel some of those lower tones rumble through the body, and with some low end models, that may not translate well through the body and ... MoreWanted one of these for the longest time, finally went ahead (thanks to AMS payment options!), and oh boy...This thing is a massive upgrade from any other bass I've owned over the years. Can definitely feel some of those lower tones rumble through the body, and with some low end models, that may not translate well through the body and wind up getting picked up on the buckers. But here, thats all feel, and the buckers just stick to picking out the notes and tones for some super spicy groovin. Only had this guy for about two weeks, but already 10/10 would recommend this bass to anyone looking for a bass to bring a smile to someones face.
I purchased this bass to add to my collection,I’m a fan of the mud bucker sound of the 60 like jack Bruce delivered with cream , I like that it gives me the control to make it as deep muddy as I want . I have always been a fan of this bass since the days it was called EB3 , it’s a beautiful bass the wood the color and of course the humbucking pickup close to neck . This bass is gorgeous. and it’s a Gibson
This is the somewhat "Reissue" of the famous 60's Bass originally made by Guild, which was used by Jack Casady of the Jefferson Airplane, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead & many others back in that era. Built in Korea, it is an absolutely excellent Bass, with outstandingly deep, warm Bassy tones & sings just like the original Guild versions. The GoldTone pickups seem to be quite adequate, although maybe not as powerful as the ones on the old Guilds. Many are going for the Dark Star replacement pickups whenever available. This is such a beautiful Bass - I've always wanted an original 60's Guild Starfire Bass, but the cost is just to high for me (approx $2,200-3,500). However, I see that Guild has finally just reissued the Starfire II for around $1300 - quite ... MoreThis is the somewhat "Reissue" of the famous 60's Bass originally made by Guild, which was used by Jack Casady of the Jefferson Airplane, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead & many others back in that era. However, I see that Guild has finally just reissued the Starfire II for around $1300 - quite reasonable, but still out of my price range. Because of this great find on Ebay, I don't care one bit about the new Guild Starfire II, cause in ways I think mine is a much better Bass - for one, the neck has a pretty Binding, where the Guild Starfire II doesn't. Mine is Near-Mint & cost me only $600. You can find a few other ones on Ebay for that & up to $750- a terrific value over the new Guild Starfire II's. You really have to play one of these DeArmonds to be able to appreciate the fine workmanship that went into this fantastic Instrument. As the owner of 6 Basses, this one is by far my favorite & always will be. I encourage any Bassist out there - if you want to go for the old JA & GD 60's Bass sounds like myself, then get one of these - you won't be sorry !
This bass can do pretty much anything. I was worried it would be too deep and mellow, but the times you can get from the bridge pick-up are incredible. You can get this bass to sound like a P-bass on the bridge anything up to a double bass by rolling the tone all the way down on the neck pick-up, palm muting and using your thumb. I never considered buying a short scale bass until playing this bass in the manchester store, and I don’t think I can go back now. I love my rickenbacker, fender and Ibanez basses but this is by far the most versatile bass I now own.
Overall:I love it! It's relatively light, smells like cotton candy at a carnival, it's aesthetically beautiful, has uniformly OUTSTANDING tone the entire length of its downscaled neck (which full scale basses don't have). It comes perfectly set up upon arrival and plays like a dream and is relatively affordable when considering the fact that it's a very, very high end instrument. Sorry, no idea of manufacturer's support.
To all you Fender P-Bass Lovers....and those that couldn't afford a Fender and chose to purchase an inferior product like a musicman, jackson, ibenez, vox, guild, rickenbacker, etc. The Gibson SG dual pickup is the most expressive bass guitar ever made. The tone rang exceeds all these other variations. It is very light weight and won't kill your back and neck standing up. Buy a SG over a Les Paul any day.The short length is perfect for those guys built like Nils Lofgren. It is such A Great Machine I wouldn't want to see anyone else but Me having one. So stick with what you got. Jack Bruce and I will get along just fine.I don't know why this guitar left the factory without being set up. I had to adjust the neck and the Octave. I did not receive the correct Quality Checklist in the shipment from Sam Ash and am still waiting for a response. I receive the QC for Serial No. 190011363. My SG Bass Serial No. is 190008637. What I think happened was the guitar and case was put in the wrong box when shipped for the Sam Aah store...someone else will receive my SC instead.
Extremely light and easy to play, especially if you have small hands. Great bass for guitar players, Rosewood fret board has great action, awesome sound and very comfortable to play. Very well made in the USA ! Also, set up on the money right out of the box. Excellent bass and worth every penny. Very happy with purchase.
