Contrary to what's been said, the supplied reflector mounts perfectly with the Bowens adapter installed- And fits perfectly back into the case.Install the Bowens- The reflector snaps into the inner ring and everything still fits neatly into the case. The reflector most certainly covers the tube in this configuration. To attach a modifier? Push the release, remove the reflector and the Bowens is ready to go

I bought one of these along with a Godox XProC TTL trigger unit in order to evaluate the system to see if I want to invest in more. I definitely will.I'm a long time studio shooter with a large inventory of Calumet Elite packs, heads and accessories. I need to eventually replace much of that but my current needs trend more toward location work involving travel. I need something more powerful, convenient and versatile than using multiple Canon speedlights (need modeling lights!). The Godox Wistra series seemed to check most of the boxes. The 400ws version is most appealing because of size/weight and relatively bright LED high CRI modeling light. My ideal version would be a slightly lower cost 400ws version without TTL. I imagine that I will rarely use TTL. There is a manual version of the 600 but it comes with more size/weight and an inferior modeling lightA couple of very good things I discovered about this unit that aren't obvious in the description here: It comes packed in a very nice case. I can see myself simply puting two or three of these cases inside a larger wheeled duffle and having everything nicely organized and protected. Also important is the fact that when you mount the Bowens adapter, you can still use the Godox mount at the same time. That means you have the option of leaving the supplied reflector on or off when you put the light into a softbox. That gives a bit more control over the output and quality of light from the softbox. The build quality seems quite good. I was very impressed that I could mount a heavy 4x6 Larson softbox on the unit without a counterweight and the stand adapter can hold the chosen angle without having to tighten it down with extreme force. None of my existing (admittedly OLD) heads will do that.I'm pleased and look forward to getting additional Godox moonlights.

I use this strobe for portrait photography and it's outstanding. I like the build quality as well. It can be heavy for most users, but the weight doesn't bother me. I purchased the A/C adapter because the battery that comes with it doesn't last long to me on a shoot indoors. Only quirks I have is the bulb that comes with the strobe. I've had this light since September and the bulb is done already, and I've only used the light a few time. Not to mention a new one is $120 bucks. Buyers beware you may have to invest in a extra bulb or two to be on the safe side.

The AD400 has proven to be a fantastic light with many great options. Easy to use and is compact for the amount of light it can put out. My only suggestion for an improvement would be to the Power Off switch. To turn the light on, you press the power button then turn the selector wheel one full rotation. To turn it off however, a light press of the power button shuts the unit down with no other action needed. Maybe it is me being overly cautious, but I would like to have a double action to power the unit off as well. Still a solid five stars however
This is my first battery power strobe and so far it has taken my possibilities to the next level. I use it outdoors with a 4' soft box and it created beautiful Portrait Lighting. TTL with my Nikon works great, and switching to manual also. The LED modeling light is adjustable and gets really bright when I need it that way. Super happy with this strobe for the price!
I bought one of these for my studio and have used it every day for at least 2 years. The light and functionality of it is great, but for a long term or reliable solution, I am not sure, because of the battery. Twice now, I have left it unplugged and not charging over the weekend. Then, when I come back the studio, the battery has completely been drained and unable to re-charge. What makes things worse, is that this light can not function without a charged battery. You can not plug it in and shoot with a dead battery, it has to have at least a little charge for it to work. So, with a dead battery, this light is a paper weight.I thought that maybe it was a one time black swan event, so I bought a second battery and 6 months later, the same thing happened. I was accidentally left unplugged over the weekend and when we came back, dead as a doornail and not able to recharge. To add to this, it is easy to have it accidentally become unplugged because of the way the charger is set up. The cord comes in two pieces and they are constantly becoming disconnected. This is a problem and Godox is aware of it. Even if I have a back-up battery, they are not reliable enough to use as a professional. Can you imagine if you didn't plug your computer in for a few days and then the battery died. Forever.I do not recommend. Selling it.
I have been an avid fan of the Flashpoint Xplor Series for years, and purchasing 3 400Pro units was long overdue.Starting with the quality of light, I immediately noticed the improvement to the colors in my photos. Having recently joined a group that provides regular critique, I have been struggling to capture good color even with all the tools and settings done properly. The 400 pro unlocked great color in my images. As for power, is it possible that this outperforms an Xplor600? Well, yes, sort of. While I am sure the bare bulb light measurement would show output in line with the model numbers, real-world use told a different story. While I am sure the bare bulb light measurement would show output in line with the model numbers, real-world use told a different story. As best as I can tell, the protruding bulb of the Pro vs the recessed style of the 600 (non Pro) allows more usable light to enter a softbox. In fact, in one of my light setups, 1/128 power was always a good setting for the 600, and even at 1/256, I had to employ the inverse square to achieve the same result. In other setups, 1/32 of the 400pro was as powerful as 1/32 from the 600.All this, and I can carry three of these little workhorses in a spare 600 case. In fact, if I had to make a critical comment about this light, it is that the case is non-customizable. I strongly recommend buying a padded plastic case or a case for an Xplor600 as a more useful alternative.
Absolutely love this flash. The portability and power make it a perfect solution for all types of portraiture photography. I shoot quite a few sports portraits, both indoors and out, and the flash is perfect. I already owned one AD400 and decided to add a second. Setup is simple and the flash is easy to use. I have never had a misfire, which is a big plus!
The AD400 is really light and compact for a portable 400 watt monolight. The setup was extremely quick and simple. From the time, I mounted the battery, I had it firing within seconds.Everything about the build quality actually seems really nice and instills confidence. I'm extremely surprised by what was achieved for this price and really excited to get to use this on my next few projects.
Starting with what I liked about this product based upon first impressions before sending this back for a refund. The price of this kit makes it affordable to have a battery powered flash head.I loved the carry case for the kit. This isn't a temporary case just for shipping, but for regular storage and transport. It even comes with a removable shoulder strap for carrying the case. The problem though with this case is that there isn't a bulb cover if you want to store with the Bowens mount still attached and bulb plugged into the head.Additionally, if you want to leave the Bowens mount and bulb attached to the flash head, there is no where to store the default reflector. This requires you to take the time to unscrew and remove the Bowens mount. The fact that I ... MoreStarting with what I liked about this product based upon first impressions before sending this back for a refund. The price of this kit makes it affordable to have a battery powered flash head.I loved the carry case for the kit. This requires you to take the time to unscrew and remove the Bowens mount. The fact that I have to use tiny screws with a small Allen wrench in order to attach or remove the Bowens mount is the biggest turn off. My light modifiers all use the Bowens mount so I want to leave the mount on when stored, but since the case won't store the standard reflector separately and lack of bulb cover is a terrible experience. The whole point of this battery operated setup is because I travel to clients and want to leave the Bowens mount attached while in transport. With this design, I either have to spend 10+ minutes at the beginning and end of a photo shoot to revert the setup back to the out-of-box configuration so I can store everything. Or, I leave the Bowens mount attached and have to then leave the default reflector at the studio. If I do this though, I'm still left without any sort of bulb protector when the head is in the case.In order for me to feel comfortable keeping this kit the attaching and removing the Bowens mount would need to be accomplished without needing to use screws. Plus, the storage case would need to have a way to keep the default reflector stored during transport. My default behavior after attaching the Bowens mount was to reattach the standard reflector, but the setup does not support this capability. If this type of behavior existed, then I'd be more likely to keep and use this kit.I was so excited to get this kit, but I'm now heartbroken.
