Be INCREDIBLY careful with storage/charging

Man, I love my AD400s but if you don't store them in absolutely the perfect way, you're in for an expensive time. I've had these batteries for 3 years, and am usually good about making sure they're always halfway charged when I put them in storage. One had drained after a shoot, and I left it drained for only a few days. Now, it's completely unable to take a charge anymore and I have to replace it. At least it's been 3 years, but still. Very frustrating. All that's to say: be METICULOUS about storing them half-charged and you should be fine.

Beware defective design..

I just had my spare WB400p battery go dead in the case and will not take a charge. I think its a defective design, I've never had this happen with a battery like this. I wouldn't mind so much if they were cheaper to replace, but I am reluctant to spend the money if they are not that reliable. There are a lot of workarounds (don't store the batteries fully charged!!) discussed online and some troubleshooting videos on Youtube.I wish they made a power supply, I'd buy that instead of batteries. I like the light but it is of limited use if batteries are subject to counter-intuitive voodoo!

March 2021 I bought 2 x AD400Pro flash head w/ two extras batteries WB400P ( total 4 x Batteries ) . When I receive it all of the 4 batteries was died power. Normally it has to be at least 25% of is charge !!! B&H has to be sure they sale us product in shape. I put all 4 batteries on the charger. Godox say you can do at least 300 Flash at full power w/ no modeling light on ! So let's do some testing : After 3 days of test and 3 round for each battery the result are :First test-Battery 1 = x183 -Battery 2 = x175 -Battery 3 = x160 -Battery 4 = x175Second test-Battery 1 = x215 -Battery 2 = x185 -Battery 3 = x193 -Battery 4 = x200Third test-Battery 1 = x225 -Battery 2 = x225 -Battery 3 = x200 -Battery 4 = x200It was a good think to also buy 2 x AC adapter ... MoreMarch 2021 I bought 2 x AD400Pro flash head w/ two extras batteries WB400P ( total 4 x Batteries ) . Time will do the rest.In contact with B&H they did ask me to do a shipping back to get a replacement but I did want to take the chance to have worst !!Godox has still some work to do on their battery quality.S.FioreMontreal

Previous battery ran low and wouldn't charge. Didnt realize until after discarded you could reset them by charging directly, more Lithium/nickel to the dumps. Not a environmentally friendly planned obsolescence but they got me to spend twice so it worked for them.

Have had this battery for not very long. The battery died while not being used. It did not take the charge. Followed instructions I found on the internet but was not able to reset it. Sent for repair but cannot be revived. It's a waste of money. I feel hesitate to buy a new one to end up with another dead battery.

Poor quality batteries!
20 June 2023

I like the Godox lights for their price/quality but the batteries are absolutely terrible. I had one arrive completely dead (luckily, B&H made the return process easy) and a second one died after only 1 year of limited use (once per week). They are expensive to replace, so my next lights will unfortunately not be from Godox anymore.

After a few uses, my backup batteries died.I know EVERYONE has been posting warnings about the batteries in the reviews.Time to sell my Godox system. I'm not comfortable constantly spending $200 to replace batteries if they only last a few months.Godox, work on your battery technology!!!!

USE IT!
4 October 2022

I love the light that the AD400 produces, but the battery has a major design flaw. It disables itself after 3 months of no use. I tried talking to Godox and they said that I can send it in to repair it, but couldn't offer any locations in the US. I tried resetting it myself via YouTube tutorials, but it didn't work. I now need to buy a second battery and be sure to not go more than a month or so without snapping a photo. Stupid design flaw.

not reliable
11 August 2021

I LOVE the flash head... the battery... not so much. When working they work beautifully but they have a history of failing abruptly. Mine went from working perfectly to totally dead while sitting in a case for maybe two months. Its the one that came with the flash and is about a year and half old with relatively infrequent use (stored fully charged). Apparently my experience is not unique. They're not inexpensive to replace. One of the main attractions of the strobe is the ability to travel relatively lite while packing a lot of power. If I have to carry spare batteries or power supplies the total weight goes way up.
