airbrushing with .2 & .5 and HVLP works great
I'm airbrushing straight from container. it sprays well. different colors have more tip dry than others. most colors are have very little tip dry problems. for the most part, it seems glossy. this is the best large quantity paint I can get. most other airbrush paints only come in small bottles and would be cost prohibitive to scale up. these are expensive for the large containers, but the coverage is great. I'm using the opaque colors and they hide well, and have good coverage. I bought a large selection of this paint, and I do feel like I can make progress on my large scale paintings in the most cost effective way. I will be buying more of this paint in the future when I want to airbrush my projects. no problem in an HVLP gun whatsoever. I wish the color palette ... A new idea and product!
I just bought and tried these acrylics for the first time. My plan is to use them for underpaintings on my soft pastel and acrylic paintings. As far as the pastel paintings go, I wanted a product that would not fill the tooth and the high flow acrylics were recommended to me for underpainting on pastel sanded paper. It worked. And as acrylic paintings dry, the paint shrinks a little and there can be pinpoints of canvas showing through. I will use the high flow acrylics as a thin layer to alleviate the pin points. I definitely feel these new paints are going to be useful.... Show more

Blick is the best.
Exactly what I was looking for and this review is more about the excellent customer experience that I had with the Blick folks. My box was broken in shipping and this item literally had fallen out of the box. One call into the Blick help folks and they blazed out a replacement right away with no hassle and no cost. Problems will inevitably occur with online purchases/shipping, etc, and the great companies set themselves above the rest by how they make things right. Blick is terrific in this regard.... Show more

Do not buy if using colored pencils
I was hoping for a product that I could use in my art studio to sharpen all the different wood pencils I use--graphite, charcoal and colored pencils. The machine jammed immediately upon sharpening the first colored pencil and was unusable after that. Blick sent an entirely new sharpener thinking it was a defective machine but the exact same thing happened and the motor is jammed. They only way I see to clear the motor is to take it apart which would be very time consuming, if it is even possible. I am back to sharpening my pencils by hand which may be a chore but a lot easier to clear out jams. The sharpener is probably great if you stick to graphite pencils but since their advertising clearly states "Works great on colored pencils too" I am giving this a 1 star for ... Essential Bright Green
I've always liked using Golden High Flow Acrylics as my auxiliary/mixing companion to Holbien acrylic Gouache. Their high pigment compliments Holbien's well and thins it out a bit making both stretch a bit. I decided to check out Golden's light green as an understudy/mixing paint for Holbien's Leaf Green and I'm so glad I did! It doesn't quite have that electric quality Holbien has but it's super rich, bright and easy to work with. Perfect for my purposes, a new staple for the palette.... Show more

Fun to drop directly on paper - Great for detailed portraits
Its fun to just drip the paint directly on the surface for easy backgrounds or underpaintings. Use a small palette with wells to blend colors. I've used these paints for 5 portraits now. The thinness of the paint makes it easier to use than heavy body acrylic with small brushes for details. For mixed media applications a very thin layer of either clear sanded gesso or Golden Fluid Matte Medium works great to create tooth for colored pencil finishing touches.Pro: Easy to use, blend well, stay wet long enough to allow blending. Great for details using small brushes. Very little wasted paint. Easy to make custom paint colors with the High Flow Medium and liquid pigment dispersions.Con: Since they do have a bit of retarder in them you do need to wait 10-15 minutes to ... Good product: more economical than specialized model paint!
I needed to paint rail on a client's HO model railroad. Specialized Model paint vendors charge $3 for a 17ML bottle of "Rail Brown" but if you compare, it's Burnt Umber. Golden is a quality supplier of acrylic airbrush paints (flows well at 20 lbs, fine pigment size) and Blick's offers 16 OZ delivered for about $40, enough for several large railroads! I've been using an Iwata HP-CS and one of the new lithium battery powered handheld brushes and both are working great with the Golden High Flow Acrylic. A few minutes matching colors will pay big dividends!... Show more

Must have for current series.
Golden fluid/high flow acrylics are extremely concentrated and are as lightfast as mineral pigments. Easy to work with in watercolor/acrylic techniques such as resists and wet in wet, they have been my first choice for many years. I waited for the anthraquinone blues to return after supply chain issues held them up. The indigo is a terrific addition to my palette for this series.... Show more

Richly pigmented liquid acrylics
The High Flow paints are the consistency of ink. I like how the paint swatch on the label cleadly shows if the contents are opaque, or transparent. And show the exact color of the Paint that's inside. Golden seems to be the only manufacturer that's does this paint swatch on the label thing. The colors are richly pigmented, not watery or weak at all. The opaque colors cover well and the transparent colors are lovely and translucent. There is a good variety of colors in the line to choose from. In addition, these colors match perfectly with other Golden Acrylic paints , the heavy body and medium body consistency paints. You can use water to thin down the paint to create lovely water color like washes and effects. This would be a good product for watercolor artists who ... You can use water to thin down the paint to create lovely water color like washes and effects. This would be a good product for watercolor artists who want to put down an initial wash or layer, then layer watercolor on top of it. If you do this using only watercolor the initial layer can lift or mix with the other layers. If you use these High Flow acrylics for the first layers, when its dry it will not lift or mix with the other layers. I tried this and it worked ok for me since I thinned the High Flow Acrylic paint down with water, the watercolors went over it fine. I did not try water colors on a thicker layer of High Flow Acrylics. I believe these High Flow Acrylic paints could be a useful addition to the watercolor artist's tool kit. These paints could be used in a variety of ways, in empty markers, waterbrushes, airbrushing and using as an ink in calligraphy and illuminated documents. I honestly cant think of anything bad about these paints. Just realize that they are very liquid and use them accordingly. Don't try to make them do what the heavier body Acrylic paints are intended to do.... Show more

Weird Separation
I bought the neutral gray, and found that even after shaking it for 7 straight minutes the color was still separated in the bottle- when you pour some out, it still had brown streaks (and it seemed odd that brown was in a neutral gray... that's a warm gray to me 🤷🏻♀️). Even worse, once you mix it with another color, the brown still settled on top and I kept having to try to mix it back in...so pretty sure I got a defective one. The Payne's gray I also bought seemed to work fine, so mine could've been a total fluke...but I feel like it would be a potential problem I would run into again, so the high flows are a no for me.Then of course bc you have to shake it a ton, many many bubbles. Now I am NOT a painter, I'm a pastellist that needed a thinner type paint for ... Now I am NOT a painter, I'm a pastellist that needed a thinner type paint for a project, so there's probably some fancy painter's trick for getting rid of the bubbles. However, I didn't have this problem with the Createx airbrush paint I also bought- it worked perfectly for what I needed after I thinned it a bit. Only needed to shake it a little. Still a fan of Golden's, but not the High flows...too inconsistentI do like the idea of these paints though- that there's so many applications and potential to them.... Show more
